2. Suggesstion of Energy Conservation Measures to Owner / Architect:


The proposed building is a Hotel building, located at Dehradun, India. It is recommended to implement
several energy conservation measures in terms of both envelope side and HVAC system side. Following are
the measure that’s been taken in to consideration:
1. Autoclave Aerated Concrete Block for walls
2. Glazing with low U-value and SHGC,
3. Over the deck roof 50mm insulation XPS,
4. Chiller based system for Ventilation & Air Conditioning.

3. SUMMARY OF ECBC COMPLIANCE


ENVELOPE
3.1. Building opaque envelope
To meet the ECBC 2017 compliance through Whole Building Performance method, a thermally well
performing building opaque envelope as provided in Table 1 is followed.

3.2. Glazing Recommendation


Since Whole Building Performance approach is being undertaken to show ECBC compliance, glass has been
selected keeping in view not only heat gain but also daylight availability. The selected glass is listed in Table 2

COMFORT SYSTEMS AND CONTROLS


3.3. Building HVAC design and systems
Water cooled chiller-based system has been proposed .
3.4. Ventilation
The building shall be mechanically ventilated and outdoor air rates as per NBC i.e. 5 cfm/person in addition
to 0.06 cfm / sqft shall be provided.

Basement car park ventilation systems shall be controlled by CO sensors

3.6. Controls
HVAC operation shall be carried out using Building Management System and shall incorporate at least the

3.7. Piping and duct insulation
Piping insulation shall be provided as per the following: -

3.8. Condensers
Cooling towers shall be located either on rooftop or outside the building so that heat sink is free of
interference from heat discharge by devices located in adjoining spaces

3.9. Lighting power density
Building area method has been adopted in the calculation.

3.11. Exterior lighting detail
Exterior lighting system with photo sensor control and lamp efficiency more than 80 lumens/watt has been
recommended.

3.12. Exterior lighting control
Photo sensor control system has been recommended for exterior lighting and shall be installed.
3.13. Summary of recommendations for lighting
For the building, 6.65 W/m2 LPD shall have to be achieved using LED lighting. Exterior lighting system with
photo sensor control and lamp efficiency more than 80 lumens/watt has been recommended at a justified
distance.

SERVICE WATER HEATING


3.14. Hot water requirement in the building
Not installed.

ELECTRICAL
3.15. Transformer
The maximum total losses of the proposed transformer at 100% loading and 50% loading has been
determined as per ECBC 2017 Table 7-2. Additional metering class current transformers (CTs) and potential
transformers (PTs) shall be provided.

Voltage drop for feeders shall not exceed 2% at design load. Voltage drop for branch circuit shall not exceed
3% at design load.
3.16. Motors (type, efficiency)
IE-2 High Efficiency Motors has been recommended as per ECBC 2017 Section 7.2.2 and shall be followed.
3.17. Diesel generator sets
BEE 3 Star Rated Diesel Generator sets have been recommended as per ECBC 2017 Section 7.2.3 and shall be
followed.

3.18. Check metering and monitoring


Permanently installed electric meter to record demand (kW), energy (kWh), and total power factor (kVARH)
has been recommended as per ECBC 2017 Section 7.2.4 and shall be followed. Additionally, sub-meters for
HVAC system, Interior and Exterior Lighting and Plug loads shall also be provided.
3.19. Power factor correction
APFC panel shall be installed for Power Factor Correction of 0.97. Dry (MPPH type) automatic power factor
improvement capacitor banks, 400/430 Volts shall confirm to IS-2834-1964 (Amended to date). All the units
shall be connected in parallel for each block by means of solid copper bars.
3.20. Power distribution system
Power cabling shall be sized so that the distribution losses do not exceed 3% of the total power usage as
recommended in ECBC 2017 Section 7.2.6
3.21. Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS)
Energy Efficient UPS system with minimum efficiency of 93.8% at 100% loading is being installed for
Emergency lighting, Fire alarm and security systems.

RENEWABLE ENERGY
3.22. System information
Solar PV panels facing south direction at 30-degree tilt shall be installed and the capacity would be
equivalent to 1% of the total demand/ connected load compensated by the installed capacity of the solar PV
panels (or) 25% of the roof area shall be provided with solar PV.

4. WHOLE BUILDING PERFORMANCE:


ENERGY MODELLING AND SIMULATION
SUMMARY
Compliance with ECBC 2017 is achieved through Whole Building Performance method.

DESCRIPTION ENERGY MODELLING SOFTWARE


e-QUEST simulation tool, which runs on DOE 2.2 simulation engine, is used for the purpose of analysis. The software has
the capability to model 3-dimensional Geometry, Envelope, Lighting, Process & HVAC loads to accurately represent the
energy consumption of a building. Baseline & Proposed case are modeled as per the ECBC guidelines to calculate the
proposed case energy efficiency improvement over the Baseline.
