Minutes of the 6th meeting of the Governing Body of G.V.P. College of Engineering
(Autonomous) held on 19th of May, 2012.

The Principal, Prof. N.S.V.V.S.J. Gandhi at the outset extended his cordial welcome to all the
members of the Governing Body. The Principal informed the names of those who have been
granted leave of absence. As the Chairman Sri D.V. Subba Rao could not attend the
meeting, Sri V. Seetharamaiah is requested to chair the meeting.

The following items are discussed and the corresponding resolutions are adopted:

Item-1 Confirmation of the minutes of the earlier meeting held on


15.04.2012

The minutes of the meeting were circulated to all the members for their comments. As there
are no comments, the minutes are deemed to have been confirmed.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/1

The Governing Body resolved to approve the minutes of the meeting held on 15th of April,
2012.

Item-2 Ascent to the minutes of the meeting of the Academic Council held
on 14.5.2012
a) Course structure and syllabi for VII, VIII semesters effective from 2009 admitted batch
onwards.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/2.1

The Governing Body resolved to give its consent to the syllabi of VII, VIII semesters of
B.Tech. for 2009 admitted and subsequent batches in Chemical, Civil, CSE, ECE, EEE, IT,
ME, with necessary recommended modifications incorporated and with due circulation
among the members of the respective Boards as approved by the Academic Council in its
meeting held on 14.5.2012.

b) Amendments to the rules for promotion into VII semester for regular, re-admitted and
lateral entry students.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/2.2

The Governing Body resolved to give its consent to the following modifications as approved
by the Academic Council in its meeting held on 14.5.2012:
i) Modification for promotion into VII semester of B.Tech. programme for 2009 admitted
and subsequent batches as
“A student shall be promoted from VI to VII semester, if he acquires116 out of 164
credits up to the end of VI Semester (from the regular and supplementary
examinations of I to V semesters and the regular examinations of VI semester
before he/she enters the VII Semester.”

ii) Amendment to minimum academic requirement for lateral entry students for promotion
into VII semester (those admitted in 2010 batch and subsequent batches) as

“A student shall be promoted ito the VII Semester only after securing 80 credits
out of 112 credits up to the end of VI Semester (from III,IV,V semesters regular
and supplementary examinations & VI semester regular examinations) before
he/she enters the VII Semester.”

iii) Amendment to minimum academic requirement for students re-admitted from JNTU
stream to autonomous stream in 2010 and subsequent academic years into III,IV
semesters for promotion into VII semester as,
“A student re-admitted from JNTU stream into autonomous stream in 2010 and
subsequent academic years into III, IV semesters shall be promoted from VI to VII
semester, if he acquires 116 up to the end of VI Semester (from I, II,III,IV,V
semesters regular and supplementary examinations, including pre-
requisite/mandatory courses & VI semester regular examinations) before he/she
enters VII Semester.”

iv) Modification in 5.0 . h “EVALUATION” of M.Tech. regulations as,


“The Laboratory examination for M.Tech. subjects must be conducted with two
Examiners, one of them being Laboratory Class Teacher and second examiner
shall be from other institutes of repute.”

c) Amendments suggested by JNTU-K in case of internal evaluation and promotion criteria:

The Governing Body resolved to give its consent to follow the JNTU-Kakinada norms in case
of internal/external evaluation with freedom in internal evaluation and promotion pattern
from 2012-13 admitted batch onwards for all programs under autonomous stream as
approved by the Academic Council in its meeting held on 14.5.2012.

d) Transitory regulations, course structure for students re-admitted into VII , VIII semesters
from JNTU stream to Autonomous stream.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/2.4

The Governing Body resolved to give its consent to the proposed transitory regulations for
students re-admitted into VII, VIII semesters of B.Tech. programme of autonomous stream
from JNTU stream as given below as approved by the Academic Council in its meeting held
on 14.5.2012 and as given below:

1. A student readmitted into VII or VIII semesters has to study the courses prescribed in
the corresponding semesters of course structure of the autonomous system and shall
earn the credits from the end semester examinations.

2. Shall earn the credits of the previous semesters from the supplementary examinations
conducted by JNTU-K from time to time.

3. The student seeking readmission into VII or VIII semesters shall abide by all other
relevant regulations in force under the autonomous stream.

e) Course structure and syllabi for new M.Tech. programmes to be introduced from 2012
admitted batch onwards.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/2.5

The Governing Body resolved to give its consent for the introduction of the following new
M.Tech. programmes from the academic year 2012-13,

1. COMPUTER AIDED ANALYSIS AND DESIGN (Mechanical)


2. POWER ELECTRONICS AND DRIVES (EEE)

and approve the course structure and syllabi with suggested modifications after due
discussion and circulation among the members of the respective boards as ratified/approved
by the Academic Council in its meeting held on 14.5.2012.

f) Regulations, course structure and syllabi for Part-time B.Tech.in Chemical Engineering
to be introduced from 2012 admitted batch onwards.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/2.6

The Governing Body resolved to give its consent for the introduction of the Part-time
programme in B.Tech. Chemical Engineering from 2012-13 academic year and to approve
the regulations, course structure, and syllabi for the above programme as ratified/approved by
the Academic Council in its meeting held on 14.5.2012.

g) Regulations, course structure and syllabi for P.G diploma in Petroleum Technology to be
introduced in the department of Chemical Engineering.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/2.7

The Governing Body resolved to give its consent to the introduction of the Post Graduate
diploma in Petroleum Technology along with the regulations and course structure and syllabi
from the academic year 2012-13 as approved by the Academic Council in its meeting held on
14.5.2012.

Also resolved to maintain the title of the programme as „Petroleum Technology‟ in view of
its market value outside the country.

h) Ratification of existing rules and regulations on examination system.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/2.8

i) The Governing Body resolved to give its consent to the existing practices of the
examination system with a modification to remove the restriction on the number of
pages of the answer booklet as ratified/approved by the Academic Council in its
meeting held on 14.5.2012.

ii) The Governing Body resolved to give its consent to the new examination committee
with the composition given below as approved by the Academic Council in its
meeting held on 14.5.2012:

from other institutes –Dheerubhai Ambani Institute of Information Technology and
Purdue University.

Governing Body resolved to give its consent to the course structures for
1. Mr.Sai Avinash admitted into III semester of B.Tech. Information Technology from
Dheerubhai Ambani Institute of Information Technology
2. P.Prashant Reddy, admitted into III semester of B.Tech Electronics and
communication Engineering from the Purdue University.
and to seek ratification from JNTU-K on the admission as approved by the Academic council
in its meeting held on 14.5.2012.

j) Ratification of the action taken on Environmental studies course for lateral entry students.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/2.10

Governing Body resolved to give its consent to the action taken to conduct as an additional
mandatory course as ratified by the Academic Council in its meeting held on 14.05.2012.

k) Approval for completion process of 1st batch of M.C.A students under autonomous system
during 2011-2012.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/2.11

The Governing Body resolved to give its consent to authorize the Chairman, Academic
council to finalise the list of eligible students admitted in 2009-10 to receive the M.C.A
degree and communicate to the University and seek ratification in the next meeting as
approved by the Academic Council in its meeting held on 14.5.2012.

Item-3 Introduction of Integrated Master of Management Programme (MTM).

The Principal informed that the proposal for introduction of Integrated Master of
Management Programme (MTM) is discussed in the meeting of the Academic Council held
on 14.5.2012 and the members suggested to wait until next academic year if possible, and
also suggested to carefully study the demand and the consequences before proceeding further.
The UGC representative said that the programme is not in the approved list of UGC
programmes.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/3

The Governing Body resolved to accept the recommendations of the Academic Council and
wait until next academic year for introduction of the MTM course.

Item-4 Any other item

]Prof. P. Somaraju informed that as per the directions issued by the Hon‟ble Supreme Court
of India a general notification is issued by the Govt. of A.P. calling for latest figures/details
from the colleges relevant to the year 2012-13 with reference to the impact on the financial
burden due to AICTE Notification dt. 22.1.2012, that stipulates that management must fix
pay scales in accordance with that notification and the notification of the state government dt.
25.2.2010 to implement the 9th PRC report of the State Government. The Gayatri Vidya
Parishad submitted relevant documents to Fee Fixation Authority for fixation of fee in
Gayatri Vidya Parishad College of Engineering (Autonomous).

The Hon‟ble Supreme Court passed an order dated 9.5.2012 stating that such institutions who
give their undertaking before the Court within one week and on furnishing within one week
thereafter to AFRC complete details/figures relevant to evaluate impact on their financial
burden due to AICTE notification and the 9th Pay Revision Committee Report of the State
Government shall be considered for fee fixation for the Academic year 2012-13.

The GVP submitted its undertaking on 14.5.2012 to the Hon‟ble Supreme Court conveying
the willingness to pay the revised AICTE Pay Scales to the teaching staff and 9 th PRC Pay
Scales to the non-teaching staff for the academic year 2012-2013 in the event that the GVP
college of Engineering (Autonomous) case is being considered favourably by the AFRC for
grant of an increase in the tuition fee on the additional financial burden due to AICTE
Notificated dt. 22.1.2010 and the Notification of the State Government dt. 25.2.2010 to
implement the 9th Pay Revision Committee Report of the State Government.

Resolution No. GVPCOE(A)/GBM/6/12/4

The Governing Body noted that Gayatri Vidya Parishad submitted an undertaking to the
Hon‟ble Supreme Court of India to pay the revised AICTE Pay Scales to the teaching staff
and 9th PRC Pay Scales to the non-teaching staff for the academic year 2012-2013 in the
event that the GVP college of Engineering (Autonomous) case being considered favourably
by the AFRC for grant of an increase in the tuition fee on the additional financial burden due
to AICTE Notification dt. 22.1.2010 and the Notification of the State Government dt.
25.2.2010 to implement the 9th Pay Revision Committee Report of the State Government.
