Paris has been the fashion capital of the Western world from the seventeenth
century to the twenty-first century, although other cities, such as New York,
London, and Milan, also have become important centers of fashion. The clothes
we wear today owe a great deal to Paris, even if they were designed (and almost
certainly manufactured) elsewhere in the world. From the early 17th century to
the present, France has developed a fashion culture of its own. This is due to the
French designers' unique abilities to design clothing that expresses class, and
sophistication and sets clothing trends around the world. Throughout fashion
history, French fashion consistently established a reputation that represented to
many the true quality of female character and style. it was a man, King Louis XIV
to be exact, who is well-known for making a definite mark in French fashion
history.. The French was known for their stunning taste in clothing and effortless
elegance. Home of some of the world's most successful design houses, it is no
surprise that Paris is considered to be the fashion capitol of the world. If you feel
your style needs more upgradation, try to imitate the French style of dressing.
Both French men and women wear sophisticated, elegant clothing. As a result,
many American tourists often feel underdressed compared to the French natives.
One of the cardinal rules of the French dress code is wearing understated, well-
fitting clothes. It follows that the sweatpants and oversized T-shirt look popular in
North America is seldom seen among the French, unless they are in the privacy of
their own home. More specifically, the French prefer a tidy look that does not
reveal. While France does experience hot temperatures in the summer, most
French men and women do not wear shorts. To keep cool, men often wear pants
that end at the mid-calf length and are made of light fabrics. French women
choose patterned skirts or Capri pants that end at or below the knee for spring
and summer. Both men and women pair these warm-weather bottoms with
short-sleeved buttoned-down shirts or simple T-shirts. Fashion is especially
important and valued in France because so many acclaimed and epic designers
are based in Paris, and are known to have been for awhile.
DRESSES

Because of its simplicity and elegance, the little black dress is a fashion staple for
the majority of French women. Of course, women wear these reserved dresses in
many other colors, in addition to black. Sometimes featuring various patterns,
dresses are worn both in the professional and casual setting. However, in an
effort to avoid flashy, loud clothing the French often prefer dark colors and
minimalistic patterns for dresses and other garments.

FOOTWEAR

The French do wear sneakers, but in styles that differ from sneakers worn by
many Americans. Unless they are exercising, French men and women do not wear
traditional white sports sneakers. Instead, they opt for slim-fitting fashion
sneakers made of materials, such as canvas. During the summer, leather sandals,
as opposed to flip flops, are the preferred choice of summer footwear for both
men and women in France.

SCARVES

The scarf is a favorite accessory for both French men and women. Elegantly tied,
knitted or wool scarves are worn to protect the neck from the cold during the
winter and fall. Women continue to wear scarves even during the warmer
seasons. They drape light scarves made of fabrics, such as silk or cotton, across
their shoulders or tie them in a knot around the neck.

FRENCH FASHION VS AMERICAN FASHION

The world is more complicated than that. There are designers from everywhere
working out of Paris and they all create different styles. whereas in America
there’s more of a tendency to think of fashion as minimalist sportswear. For
example, the French don’t like heavy makeup. A French woman would never wear
something that shows off her curves or skin. American women, on the other
hand, embrace themselves; they aren’t afraid of their body. Paris is where high
fashion began and is still the first place you think of when you think of fashion.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FRENCH AND AMERICAN BEAUTY ROUTINES
American women are more interested in quick solutions.

In the US, we're more impatient about seeing a change in how we look, especially
when it comes to beauty. It seems to be the opposite for French women.

French women don't have a goal of looking "perfect."

American beauty is often about looking "flawless." French women, on the other
hand, have a much more relaxed approach.

French women are more likely to stick with products they love.

One thing many French women are known for is their tendency to find a product
they love and use it forever. Here in America, beauty is a huge industry where
many people are constantly trying something new.

French women see their beauty routines as something fun

For many French women, applying makeup and taking care of their skin is a
source of pleasure, not something that they feel needs to be done. That's not
always so in the United States.

French women don't put as much focus on their hair.

While many Americans are very into that tousled, messy, French-girl hair, it seems
like a lot of French women are into the more American way of doing things:
getting blowouts and using hot tools like curling wands.

French women believe beauty also lies in food.

French have a completely different diet than Americans. French women believe
that beauty is also about what you're eating. French people believe that the way
to have good skin is not actually about what you put on your skin. It's about what
you eat. French women try to eat organic as much as possible — and as little
sugar as possible
French women aren't interested in using beauty to completely change how they
look and don't understand plastic surgery.

In the American beauty world, there is a lot of emphasis on changing how you
look. It's not just about looking younger, but also really making themselves look
different. The French is not about being different it is all about being themselves.

Americans put more emphasis on the importance of SPF.

While the French certainly use and care about sunscreen, it seems to be more
American to stress that it needs to be used every day.

French beauty is generally more understated.

At the end of the day, the biggest difference between French and American
beauty routines is that the French are more focused on looking understated and
elegant. Their beauty look is more minimalist, they love the no-makeup makeup
idea, and they never want it to seem like they are trying too hard. In America, we
love and embrace bold beauty trends that stand out, and we aren't afraid to use
or admit to using more products. Each approach is totally unique.
