2. In this online activity, my online students will use a simulation on plant growth to have an
individual experience based upon their unique choices. Each child’s end result will be different,
and I will grade them online by their ability to define the independent variable, defendant
variable, and constant of their experiment. They will then reinforce their learning of the above
mentioned by creating data tables with the independent and dependent variables.
Online The students will begin by investigating what the scientific method is. They will have

We will start off with a discussion board about how to write the problem in a
scientific experiment. For this experiment I want the problem to be written as
“What is the effect of different amounts of water on a bean plant’s growth in
centimeters”.
The students will be directed to the website for their experiment. They will have
instructions to plant 3 bean plants, use all 3 lights and varying amounts of water on
each.

At this point the students will be able to identify the first part of their assignment
which is to identify the control (type of plant and light) independent variable
(amounts of water) and dependent variable (how tall the plants became).

After performing the experiment the students will make a data table consisting of
the amount of water used in the first column and the final height of their bean plant
in the second column.

It is vital that the bean plant be used in the initial experiment, this will show the

largest difference in growth.

The students can then perform 2 more experiments with differing independent
variables and record data to show their knowledge of independent variable (column
1) and dependant variable (column 2).
