Cover Letter

Dear Ms. Figueroa, Going into my senior year I’ve always been an okay writer, I

struggled a lot to start my essays and come up with introductions. I always received Cs

on my essays sometimes B’s, I had so many mistakes when my essays would be revised.

A lot of those mistakes helped me change for my next essays and I would do better. I am

not really so good at essays so I would actually keep getting Cs consistently and get a B

rarely. I don’t know what it is but essays are just not for me. I also struggled with my

conclusions. My conclusions were really bad. My conclusions would be very short and I

had to make them longer but it was hard for me to think about what else to say. I

struggled with finding evidence and finding the quotes to support it.

Throughout the semester I’ve learned how to find quotes a lot better and support

my evidence. I set goals, practiced, and tried a lot more on my essays. Even though I

would get distracted in class, I would still get my work done and find any information

that I had to have to put into my essay. I learned how to start my introductions a lot better

as well, even if they weren’t as good. My reflections/ revisions helped me a lot so my

essays could be a lot better and have less mistakes in them. Ms. Figueroa’s feedback

helped a lot because I knew what to change and what to do so it was good. I want people

to know that I was really bad at essays and I worked my way up doing better and getting

better in my essays and getting better grades than I did before.

However, my strengths is my use of vocabulary and finding my quotes. I am a bit

shocked because I did not expect to get better at writing essays. It is a big

accomplishment. I still have some work to do though, because I still make a couple of

mistakes but they are fixable. I surprised myself in my social issue essay. I researched a

lot and I learned so many things on what I was researching. I did really great on this

essay and it was the best essay I’ve ever done. I felt great about it and happy after I got

my score on it because I felt accomplished for the first time with an English assignment.

After the social issue essay, I wanted to keep getting good grades on my essays.

I learned how to stay on topic with the prompt because I learned that in the future

if you stay off topic you will get points taken out. My writing goals past high school is to

do greater on essays in college than I did in high school if I ever have to write an essay in

college.
