CHAPTER 1
PANDEGLANG ECO TOURISM

In this chapter we will show you some of unique tourism destination

in west part of Pandeglang regency. As a coastline area which combined
with some mountain range there are a lot of attractive destination in this
area especially destination which related to water. You can find huge
number of beaches here, several waterfall and natural pool.
A. Situ Cikeudal /Cikeudal Lake

For the first destination we will take you to situ Cikeudal. This lake
situate in Labuan road, dahu village. It,s about 33 km to west from
Pandeglang town square. Turn left At mengger T-intersection.

This lake draw attention from passer by because the its existence is
at very side of the road. Even if today its still need a better treatmen from
the local government or community around it, it still worth to be visited.
You can come by for a while during the trip to release the exhausion or
you can stay longer to do some fishing.
Park place is provided and you can find several food stall here so
you don’t have to be worry if you need some drink or snack. Some local
inhabitant often spent their evening here and they are very friendly. You
can enjoy the beautifull and romantic scenery here for free because you
don’t need to buy a ticket here.

B. “Putri” Waterfall, Crater and Peak Mount Pulosari.

Our second destination is Curug putri waterfall, crater and peak

mount pulosari. Still remember the mengger T-intersection?. If you turn left
from Mengger T- intersection you will find Cikeudal lake, we can find
tahura putri waterfall if go straight ahead from mengger T- intersection.
This trafic lane wellknown with Mandalawangi and jiput track. You can
reach the slope by car or motor bike but you sould continue by walk to
reach this waterfall. So its very suit for you who love hiking.

There are two waterfall in pandeglang regency named curug putri.

One of them located near carita and the other one which we going to
show you is locate in slope of mount pulosari. This waterfall is very
popular among tourist for the virgin natural beauty.
This waterfall still very virgin with slippery stone along the track. We
can say that the track is hard enoughso you should preparing your
stamina before decide to go there. But once you get there all the
exhaistion will be paid by the fresh air and beautifull scenery. Some food
stall are provided here, you can buy some food,snack or coffee here.
If you are lucky you can meet some mongkey that still many in
pulosari. But if you come here in a long dry season you might be find it dry
too, just like me ha..ha..ha...

official ticket for entering mount pulosari is 10.000 rupiahs if you

visit mount pulosari without spend the night there, but if you do there are
5.000 rupiahs for addition charge. Like I said before that price is official
ticket, unfortunately if you aren’t lucky you might meet some unofficial
charge in the way. Be patient, tourism in this regency still need some
mending.
For you who want more adventure, you can continue the trip from
putri waterfall to pulosari crater. You can reach the crater by walk about an
hour from the waterfall. The track to reach this crater is harder than
previous track to waterfall. So one again prepare your stamina.
Along the way up there are a lot if food stall where you can buy
food and drink while resting to recover your energy. When you arrive in the
crater you will find little rivers and hole which produce hot steam with sulfur
aroma.

In this crater you can take a nice photo, soak your feet. Again some
food stall can be found here. Some climber use this hole to boil eggs.
Restroom also provided. In weekend theres a lot of climber set a tend
here. In ceratin holliday you might be difficult to find a place to set a tent
because so many other do the same. Some climber prefer to build their
tent in the peak of the mountain, but because peak area is limited a lot of
them prefer to bulid the tent in the cater.
When the night come you can enjoy the campfire. Do not worry if
you do not bring wood because a lot of food stall here also provide the
wood. You only need to buy it. You can get a bunch of wood with 10.000
rupiahs. That would be enough to cook some food and warm your body
while enjoying the night sky.

Next adventure if you still have energy is the peak of mount

pulosari. Height of this mount is 1346 above the sea level. The track to
reach the peak of the mount of course is hareder than before. Even if not
to high but a lot of climber consider the track is as harder as mount
cikuray, tiny but chalenging. After rain the vertical track will get very
slipery. So again and again stamina is important to be given a lot of

attention. It would need about an hour or two to reach the peak from
crater, it depend on your climbing speed.

When you arrive at the top of the mount pulosari you can enjoy the
magnificent scenery. If you are lucky and the weather is clear you can see
sea of sunda strain and others mount around pulosari.

C. Sanur citaman water pool

Actually it is Still in the same trafic line to previous destination which
is mount pulosari, still in mandalawangi-jiput track, a little bit to west you
can find a water pool called Sanur Citaman.to get there, you should head
to Jiput District. you can directly reach the location by car. To be exact,
your destination is Sukaraja Village, Pulosari. The water pool is easy to
find as it is near to Pulosari Mountain.

Ticket to enter the water pool is 10.000 rupiahs per person, 5,000
rupiahs for motor park, 10,000 rupiahs for car park. There are four
swimming pool in sanur citaman, two for children and two for adult.

Beside the pool this place have plenty of facilities. There are plenty
of rest room and wash off room. They also provide floats for children with
10,000 rupiahs per float.
Small shop to provide all your need during enjoy you time there.
Not forget this place also provide little chambers to rest together with you
group and put your stuffs.

Even not much this place also provide a play ground for children to
play after swimming.
D. Citaman Jiput Fountain

Beside sanur water pool in the same area you can find a fountain
called citaman batu goong. This nature tourism spot is located in Jiput
Raya Street, Sukosari Village. Diffenernt with sanur which have artificial
pool, this fountain becomes a great location to play water and enjoy fresh
natural atmosphere. It also becomes a perfect vacation destination for a
family bonding.

The Nuance
When it comes to nuance, the fountain features lots of stunning objects.

Apart from fresh and clear water, it is surrounded by rocks. In the middle
of the pond, there is an island-like rock formation. Also, you can see
several plants and trees nearby. That means the fountain is surrounded
by nature! It gives refreshing mood for visitors. During holidays, you may
expect lots of tourists there. Here is the thing. Since you are getting wet,
you must carry extra clothes.

Exploring Citaman Jiput Fountain
Most of the visitors come to the fountain for playing water. Though,
some of them also want to learn the history. According to the locals,
Citaman Fountain has been there for more than 2,000 years. Due to its
age, some people considered it a sacred spring. Here is the unique thing
about it. The fountain remains clear and clean, regardless of age and
condition. In terms of temperature, it is cold as ice. Thus, it becomes a
good location for relaxation and enjoying fresh water!
Once you reach the location, you may see the source of water. It is
surrounded by stones and located in the midst of the pond. It is the main
attraction in Citaman Fountain, after all. Swimming and playing in the
water are common activities to do. Getting in the water in the middle of

natural environment will be a wonderful activity. It is even possible to take
selfies in such location. Make sure not to use a water resistant camera,
though.
In order to retain its purity and beauty, you must never litter in the
water. That means you should not eat snacks near to Citaman Fountain.
Once you enjoy playing water, you can visit nearby attractions. For
instance, there is Batu Goong. It is actually terraced stones and it is an
inheritance of Buddhist’s culture. In the past, many monks use it for
meditating. It can be a perfect spot for taking pictures, actually. Therefore,
don’t forget to bring your camera! At least, you should carry a mobile
phone.

E. Caringin Beach

To get to this beach you just need to continue to west from our
previous destination still through mandawalawangi-jiput street. Turn left
when you find T-intersection at the tip of mandalawangi-jiput street.

Maybe this beach is not as wellknown as carita or anyer area, but

this beach always has a lot of visitors. One of main reason and attraction
of this beach is because here lay a tobm of K.H Asnawi. He was a very
wellknown hero, a mufti. So we can say that beside natural beauty tourism
destination this beach also a religious tourism destination. A nice
combination to attract local tourist for Indonesian People but maybe not for
foreign tourist.

This beach has a prety long coastline. At the middle part of this
beach you can enjoy scenery from heaps of rock which are intended to
guard againts erosion.

the north part of the beach which full of coral reef. You can take a
cool photograph of coral combined with the sea and sunset, or take
a selfi.

While at south side the beach is sandy with just little coral. You can
swim safely here. When the wind is good you also can fly kite in this area.
For you who fishing you can do it in this beach
This beach has a lot of visitor especially in holliday but you don’t
need to pay any retribution or ticket to come in. Even its free but there is
enough basic facility like restrooms. You can find many bamboo stall that
sell a various stuff like food and drink. Some of those stall also provide
merchendise and clothes.

F. Carita Beach, the Famous Destination in Banten

Carita beach is a famous destination located on Padeglang
residence on the west coast of Banten province. Close to Carita beach,
the tourists can see Mount Krakatau from the shore. It is easy to reach
Carita beach as the location is not far from Jakarta, the capital city of
Indonesia. By car it takes two hours to reach Carita beach from Jakarta.

Caita beach is a favorite destination specially in holidays. The place

is comfortable for family tour especially on weekends. The government
has set Carita beach for tourism destination since 1978. The view is
amazing, here you can enjoy the white sand that still looks quite natural
and beautiful. Naturally, if then this place is able to Attract the attention of
tourists, both domestic and foreign.

HOW TO GET THERE:
How to get Carita Beach from - Jakarta by Public Transport (BUS)
to get Carita Beach there are 2 route
a) Jakarta - Cilegon – Carita
b) Jakarta - Labuan – Carita
c) Jakarta - Cilegon - Carita Beach
To get carita from Jakarta it's relative easy and also most of local
people do this. The route will pass Anyer beach which the road are flat
and nice view too. Just find out bus station (Rambutan, Tanjung Priok,
Pulo Gadung, or Kali deres bus station), and the bus direction Jakarta -
Merak (but the bus will stop over and drop you in cilegon so you have to
stop here) and almost all the bus to Cilegon is aircon bus / ac bus /
executive bus, its will cost you about Rp. 17.000 - 20.000 / pax, from

cilegon sub station you have to go with small mini bus to cilegon city to
find out another minibus (ankot) to carita cost for Minibus.

1. Cilegon bus Station - to Cilegon city 5 minutes: Rp. 3000.
Cilegon - Carita (45Km) 1 hours Rp. 20.000 Jakarta - Cilegon the bus
will take by high way/TOL WAY (75-80km) : 2-3 hours Cilegon - Carita
(45-50KM): 1-1,5 hours
2. Jakarta - Labuan – Carita Most of foreigner take the bus form Kalideres
bus station, Kali Derse to Labuan almost all the bus non Aircon Bus /
economy Bus. Cost Price: Jakarta - Labuan ( 110 Km) : about Rp.
25.000 - 30.000/pax Labuan - Carita by mini bus (ANKOT) : Rp. 5000-
10.000/pax Please start your traveling in the Morning if you want to go.

A great place for swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, fishing,
and underwater photography, this resort offers a complete set of facilities
including restaurants, accommodation, motorboats, and diving
equipments. Carita beach is located in West Banten, Labuhan district,
Padeglang regency, which is accessible by any land transportation and
takes about 3 hours drive from Jakarta.
The parlous state of conservation in Indonesia, and in Java in
particular means that this small, degraded forest behind this busy beach
resort is one of the best places to find some of Java's lowland endemics.
The forest has heavily used both by tourists (more high school students)
and by local woodcutters and trappers. All the forest on the ridge tops
appears to have been recently logged and this forest would appear to
have a limited future - another victim of Indonesia's economic woes.
Besides white beaches behind hundreds of swaying coconut trees,
one panoramic highlight is the visibility of the infamous Krakatoa Volcano
from Carita, rising above the horizon in Sunda Strait between Java and
Sumatra. The visitors won't have difficulties finding a place to stay here as
many cottages, hotels and camping grounds are all available, not to
mention the inevitable seafood.
Accessible from Jakarta over a fair road, the visitors can reach it in
less than 3 hours, one third of which is over a toll road, which is being
extended to the extreme western part of Java in Merak. Here again, most

visitors arrive from Jakarta, as Bandung is more than 6 hours away from
Carita by road.
G. COCONUT ISLAND CARITA

desribe as "Song of the frog at night". As a luxurious destination coconut
Island have plenty of facilitation.The concept of "kampung pulau kelapa".

Coconut Island is located right in the heart of Carita Beach, Banten.
Actually this place is prety near from caringin beach which have we shown
you previously. This place is reachable by car, and have tons of amazing
spots to eat and drink. Coconut island venue are at the beach and has a
huge parks in the area. So yiu do not need to worry about your ride.

TOURISM OF LEBAK REGENCY
(South Lebak)

Lebak or better known as Rangkas Bitung is a Regency located in
Banten Province. Its vast territory is directly adjacent to Serang regency
and parts of Tangerang region in the north, Pandeglang regency in the
west, and Bogor and Sukabumi regencies in West Java. Nowadays slowly
but surely the Lebak regency continues to fix itself to become one of the
advanced districts in all fields. One of them is exploring the charm of
tourism and local wisdom. This is reasonable considering the natural
beauty, both beaches and tourist tourism objects in Lebak Regency quite
a lot and interesting. Arrangement of tourism objects are continuously
conducted to increase the comfort of visitors who come to enjoy the
beauty of nature in Lebak Regency so it is expected to be able to
encourage economic growth so as to overcome poverty and
unemployment. Some of these tourism objects include Cultural Tourism,
Religion Tourism, Eco Tourism, Natur Tourism, Water Tourism.

South Lebak is one part of Lebak Regency that has the most tourism
potential. Travel to the south lebak either from the direction of Palabuhan
Ratu-West Java and from the direction of Rangkas Bitung will be a journey
full of awe and thanksgiving to Allaah SWT because it has created a very
beautiful nature. By passing through small hills and streets surrounded by
dense forests so that the journey becomes very enjoyable and has its own
impression that will not be forgotten, for those of you who must have
known about the beauty and natural wealth owned by South Lebak would
want come again and again, the beauty and natural wealth possessed is
very potential in order to support the acceleration of development of Lebak
- Banten regency.
CULTURAL TOURISM: Tourism Culture Seren Taun
Kasepuhan Cisungsang
Talk about tourism and local wisdom in Lebak District, we cannot
escape from a group of people who alienated themselves from all modern
life. Those who live in the wilderness to keep nature sustainable, maintain
cultural values, and other forms of local wisdom. That is the Baduy tribe.

But amazingly Lebak has much local wisdom tourism objects besides
Baduy Tribe, Tourism Seren Taun Kasepuhan in Lebak Banten is one of
the tourist attractions located in District Cibeber, South Lebak , Banten,
Indonesia. Seren Taun in Lebak Banten is a bustling tourist spot with
tourists on weekdays and holidays. This place is very beautiful and can
give a different sensation to our daily activities.
Seren Taun in Lebak Banten is perfect for filling your holiday activities,
especially during long holidays such as national holidays, or other
holidays. The Beauty of Cultural Tourism Seren Taun in Lebak Banten is
very good for all of you who are near or in the distance to visit Seren Taun
Culture Tour in Lebak city. It is a tourist destination that you must visit
because the charm of beauty is second to none. Local residents of Lebak
area are also very hospitable towards local tourists as well as foreign
tourists. The city of Lebak is also famous for the Cultural Destination of
Seren Taun in Lebak Banten which is very interesting to visit. Seren Taun
in Lebak Banten or rice harvest celebration is a tradition that is still
maintained by the all indigenous people. Seren Taun ceremony is a
special annual ritual held to appeal for blessings as well as to offer sukur
for the giving of nature for the upcoming harvest year better and increase
Kasepuhan (Indigenous Community) Cisungsang is one part of 5
(five) parent kasepuhan in Banten Selatan (Lebak Regency) which is
incorporated in Indigenous Unity Banten Kidul (Kasepuhan Bayah,
Citorek, Ciptarasa, Cicarucub, Cisungsang). Unlike the Baduy customary

community, kasepuhan Cisungsang is open with the result of the
development of human technology, meaning that the indigenous people
kasepuhan cisungsang not prohibited using modern goods, schools,
vehicles, electronic equipment and others like in general other
communities. "Kudu can ngigeulan era" so said Abah Usep Suyatma. In
their journey, these two types of culture (Modern and Tradition) go hand in
hand, not weaken each other, and indigenous peoples can take advantage
of modernization to strengthen the tradition that is commonly practiced.
This combination of cultures can be seen from the daily life of
indigenous peoples, using iket, black clothes, and carrying gadgets,
climbing vehicles, even communicating with each other through social
media. The most visible standout is when the celebration of Seren Taun.
The music of angklung will be witnessed, jaipong and wayang are held.
while Elsewhere, young people enjoy modern music. And it can all go
smoothly. Not interfere with each other, and appreciate each other.
The ceremony is held in every 22 months of Rayagung (Dhul-Hijjah)
hijriyah calendar. Seren Taun Traditional Ritual will usually be held for 7
days 7 nights, located at IMAH GEDE, the place of Abah's residence,
which will be filled with various activities as well as traditional rituals. It is
also the culmination of a Ciungsang Kasepuhan Tradition Society in
processing, planting, preserving, storing and also appreciating Rice (in the
belief of Kasepuhan Cisungsang Society, this rice is positioned as Dewi
Sri). The theme of the ceremony is different in every year.

Chief Kasepuhan Cisungsang Abah Usep Suyatma said the ritual
stage starts from "nibakeun sri ka bumi" lowers the rice to the ground,
"ngamitkeun sri ti bumi" raises rice from the soil, "salametan rasul pari ti
leuit" thanksgiving, serah taun, and census.
The sound of Angklung Buhun and dog-dog lojor harbored with the
arrival of special guests in Cisungsang. The guests were also escorted by
Rendangan consisting of the men of Cisungsang customary tools and
representatives of Kasepuhan Adat Banten Kidul family. Abah Usep also
received guests with a tradition of wrapping the heads of guests with a

typical ick Cisungsang. This symbol means that the mind and heart of the
guests must be united tied with customs. Abah then takes guests to the
upper terrace of Ajeng.
Leuit Adat
The first stage is the nibakeun sri ka earth that literally means
lowering the rice to the ground. Each head of indigenous group
(rendangan) prepares a certain amount of rice in the form of bonds
(pocong) to be prepared for placement in the kasepuhan barn (leuit).

Furthermore, the series of ngamitkeun sri ti bumi is done by collecting
the harvested rice from all Kasepuhan Cisungsang. The third stage is
salametan rasul pari ti leuit done by rearranging the existing rice in the
barn before receiving new rice.
The fourth stage is the sera epidemic or seren epidemic which is the
core of the harvest thanksgiving ritual. In this activity, the rice yields are
handed over to the kasepuhan and the thanksgiving to God for the
abundance before the last stage of the counting is done.

"Indigenous peoples are also behind the rendangan, who once every
year return to their respective rendangan to stay in touch and ask prayers
to older families," said Heri who is a descendant of the grandchildren aka
incu-putu from traditional leaders.
In addition to the series of events, also performed ngareremokeun or
rice party and panadaran or pengajian. The final closing alias closes on
Monday (29/8) and only takes place between customary leaders. A variety
of public entertainment enliven Seren Taun helicopter held Kasepuhan
Cisungsang for a week, among others:
Gondang
Gondang is played by pounding halu (alu) in lisung (dimple) which
symbolize procession pounding rice after harvest. Gondang which was

originally intended as a tribute to Dewi Sri played in groups by a dozen
middle-aged mothers.
Rengkong
The rengkong players carry the rod-stalks tied with rope fibers on
bamboo type gombong along two meters. When the adult male players
who wear the camper clothes are walking, will sound unique sounds result
of friction rope injuk with bamboo.
Angklung Buhun
Angklung buhun which means old or old angklung played by 12 to
14 people. Dozens of people are sounding angklung instruments with four
different tones and musical instruments tabuh dogdog lojor. The angklung
buhun players also perform a typical movement that is two steps forward

and one step back. That is, every person needs to be introspective and in
every work need occasionally look back.
Kacapi
Sunda kacapi have different forms and techniques of picking with
harps from other regions. At Seren Taun Kasepuhan Cisungsang
traditional ceremony, kacapi is performed with traditional Sundanese
pantun accompaniment and prayer strands to the Almighty.
Debus
The art of debus shows the ability of self-defense and immune action
against sharp objects. Games that require this special skill are usually

played in groups of between eight and 10 performers with previous special
rituals and requesting permission from the customary head.
In the evening we are provided some advertisements such wayang
golek, dangdut, reggae, pop and many more.
Band Momonon Panggung Dangdut
Seren Taun Cisungsang is not only for the family of Cisungsang. All
are invited to come to the event. Learning the culture by watching directly
is more interesting than only reading or watching on Tv. So don’t miss next
Seren Taun schedule and come to joy it.

Historical Tourism
1. Tower Derek Ex Cikotok mine
Historical objects that exist in the Post Aneka Tambang (Antam)
Cikotok District, Cibeber Lebak District, in addition to some buildings such
as office directors office of the directors including tools Derek tool is still

"Cikotok gold mine is a legacy of historical heritage as the first state-
owned gold mining operating over time, namely the colonial period and the

At the site of the former Cikotok mine, Aneka Tambang owns the
Derek Garden. Derek Park was originally a mine shaft derrick of a vertical

underground mine with ground surfaces and mine worker transportation.

Tower Derek became a cultural heritage object with the Decree of
Lebak Regent Decree no. 004/178-Disporabudpar / V / 2010 on the List of

HISTORICAL AND NATURE TOURISM IN BANTEN

Serang is the capital of Banten Province and the administrative center of

Serang Regency. The administrative center of the regency and the capital
of the province is the independent municipality of Serang (Kota Serang).
Serang is about 10 km from Old Banten, the province’s former capital.
Merak, a major port and ferry terminal, is located just west of the regency.
Serang is bounded by Java Sea to the north, Tangerang Regency to the
east, Lebak Regency and Pandeglang Regency to the south, and Cilegon
to the west.
Old Banten is located in Banten Bay, was once a center of the Sultanate
of Banten. This area was a place where the Dutch ships landed for the first
time in Indonesia. In this area there are 2 sites of religious history, that is
the Great Mosque and the Avalokitesvara Temple.
Some treasures from China was found in the area of Banten Lama, like a
dragon-shaped jade statue of a fairly large as well as some luxurious
furnishings of the same material. The existence of the objects that are very
worth it turned out to escape the attention of local governments, and
reputedly is still owned by the inventor of such property.
Most of the Serang region of lowlands, except on the border with
Pandeglang there are a series of mountains, with peaks of Karang Mount
(1778 m). The most inhabitant in Serang are live in north side of the town.
The language spoken is the language used by the Sundanese community
in the south, and Banten Java language, or known by the Java language
of Serang, which is mostly used in the north shore area. They are mostly
muslim.

1. MASJID AGUNG (SULTAN MAULANA HASANUDIN
MOSQUE/GRAND MOSQUE) BANTEN LAMA
Great Mosque of Banten (Indonesian Masjid Agung Banten) is a historic

mosque in Old Banten, 10 km north of Serang, Indonesia. The 16th-
century mosque was one of the few surviving remnants of what used to be
the port city of Banten, the most prosperous trading center in the
Indonesian archipelago after the fall of Demak Sultanate in mid-16th
century.
History
The Great Mosque of Banten shows eclectic design, a proof of the

international influence in Banten at the time of its construction. The
mosque was constructed in Javanese style during the reign of
Sultan Maulana Yusuf, the third Sultan of Banten Sultanate,
in Dzulhijjah AH 966 (1566 CE).
A Javanese-styled pawestren (side hall, used for female's praying hall)

was added during the reign of Maulana Muhammad (1580-1586). The

southern serambi (porch) of the mosque was converted into a tomb
containing about 15 graves.
In 1632, a 24 meter minaret was added to the mosque complex.[2] The

minaret was designed by a Chineseman Cek-ban-cut.[4] Around similar
period the Dutch-styled tiyamah was added to the mosque following the
design of Hendrik Lucaasz Cardeel, a Dutchman who was converted to
Islam.[3]
Architecture
In a typical architecture of Javanese mosque, the Great Mosque of Banten

consists of the main prayer hall and a covered veranda (serambi). The
serambi is a semi-attached porch-like structure which provides entrance to
the main prayer hall. The main prayer features a five-tiered roof supported
by four main posts (saka guru). The three uppermost tier is arranged
rather uniquely, appearing more like a Chinese pagoda than the regular
multi-tiered roof of Javanese architecture. There is a dispute over the
original number of the tiers of the main prayer hall; sketches of the city in
1596, 1624, 1661 and 1726 shows the number of the tier as not more than
three tiers, while Valentijn (1858) mentioned the number of the tier is five

as it is today.[3] The covered verandas were added to the main mosque
building, built in the north and south side of the mosque.
Being a port town, the Great Mosque of Banten features eclectic elements,
which appear in the overall enclosed space of the mosque, the minaret,
and the tiyamah building. The minaret is a popular icon of the Great
Mosque of Banten. It is a 24 meter high, brick minaret, with a 10 meter in
diameter octagonal base.[3] The shape is reminiscent of a lighthouse. The
architecture features a mix of Indian Mughal pattern and
ancient candi decoration.[5]It is a place to protect endangered animals.
One of nature reserves in Indonesia is the nature reserve of Pulau Burung,
Banten. It is located in the Bay of Banten, north of Serang city or the
southeast of Banten Lama region. To answer your curiosity about this

2. MAKAM KELUARGA KERATON (Sultan’s Family Cemetary)
The cemetery Built In 1884 lead by Sheikh Asnawi, His Grave located
nearby the Mosque. Banten Grand Mosque is located in the village of

Banten Lama, precisely in the village of Banten , about 10 km north of
Serang . In this mosque there is also a cemetery Banten Sultans and their
families. That is the tomb of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin and his wife,
Ageng Tirtayasa Sultan, and Sultan Abu Nasir Abdul Qohhar. While on the
north side of the south porch there is a tomb of Maulana Muhammad
Sultan and Sultan Zainul Abidin, and others.
Great Mosque of Banten also has an additional pavilion located on the

south side of the main building of this mosque. The two-story pavilion
called Tiyamah. Is a rectangle with the architectural style of the ancient
Dutch, this building was designed by a Dutch architect named Hendick
Lucasz Cardeel. Typically, events such as meetings and Islamic studies
done here. Now the building is used as a place to store things heirloom.
Near the mosque are a number of Royal tombs. These are the final resting
place of a number of Sultans of Banten, including Sultan Maulana
Hasanuddin and his queen; Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa; Sultan Abu Nashr
Abdul Qahar; Sultan Maulana Muhammad; Sultan Zainul Abidin; and other
royal families.
Access to the site can be addressed by private vehicle or public transport.
From the terminal Terminal Pakupatan, Serang Banten Lama uses majors
bus or chartered town car transportation to the location for about half an
hour. Banten sultanate of Islam as the foundation of the kingdom's political
life as well as a symbol of identity. Great Mosque of Banten loaded with
Islamic nuances that mingle with Western and Chinese culture, especially
in the architecture of the building. One of the peculiarities of this mosque
are visible from the roof of the main building were stacked five, like a

The tower that characterizes Banten mosque is located in the east of the
mosque. The tower is made of brick with a height of approximately 24
meters, the bottom diameter of approximately 10 meters. All Dutch news
about Banten almost always mention the tower, the tower proved it always
attracts the attention of visitors to the City of Banten past. To reach the

end of the tower, there are 83 pieces of stairs that must ditapaki and down
the hall that can only be passed by one person. The scenery around the
mosque and offshore waters can be seen at the top of the tower, because
the distance between the tower by the sea which is only about 1.5 km. In

store. Towering over the Mosque is an eight-sided minaret rising almost
80 feet above the ground. The top of the minaret is accessible by 83
steps, providing visitors with a view of the nearby structures and the sea

used as a lookout tower for seaborne raiders and pirates, aside from
performing the daily adzhan or call to prayer.

Banten, also known as Banten Lama (Old Banten) is a town in the
province of Banten, in the Western Java region of Indonesia. Banten used
to be the capital of the powerful Banten sultanate, that had control over
trade in parts of Western Java and Sumatra in the 16th to 18th century.
Being a great trading centre in Southeast Asia, especially of pepper, the

sultanate of Banten was powerful and prosperous starting in the 16th
century, which led to the construction of impressive buildings in its capital
town of Banten. However, the capital of the colonial power, the Dutch East
Indies, was located just 60 km east in Batavia (currently the city
of Jakarta). This led to intense conflicts, and eventually led to the end of
the sultanate in the early 19th century, when it was absorbed in the Dutch
East Indies. Nowadays, the town of Banten is officially an administrative
village under the authority of the larger city of Serang. Banten's port is no
more than a local fishing port, with the ports of Merak to the west and
Jakarta to the east being much more important.
Banten is about 7 km north of the city of Serang. The Jalan Raya

Banten road leads directly from the city centre of Serang to Banten. To get

to Banten from Jakarta, you can take the Jakarta-Merak toll road and get
off at the Serang Timur (East Serang) exit. From there, it is about a 10 km
drive to Banten.
5. KERATON SUROSOWAN (SUROSOWAN PALACE)

Surosowan sultan palace (Keraton Surosowan), Jl. Masjid Agung
Banten (600m west of the railway station). Located in the once-prosperous
kingdom of Banten, this royal palace was designed by a Muslim Dutchman
Hendrick Lucas Cardeel and completed during the reign of the first sultan.
Surrounded by a high brick wall, it served as a glorious residence from
1526 to 1808 and was equipped with an aqueduct connected to a
reservoir. A major excavation in 1984 divulged the greatness of this
exuberant palace. Foundations of some pavilions, a bathing area in the
south wing, and two filtration tanks are some of the structures awaiting the

6. ISLAND 5 (LIMA) BANTEN.

Banten does have some privileges in addition to being a place to
conserve one-horned rhinoceros in Ujung Kulon National Park, Banten
also keeps hidden paradises in the form of small islands around it. One of
the new islands show its beauty is the island of Lima Banten. This island
of Lima emerged after the small island of Pamujan located nearby.

Although the location is adjacent but the characteristics of the
island of Lima is different from the other two islands. The island has soft
white sand and smooth, with a stretch of mangrove forest in the vicinity.
Like the other islands of Pulau Tiga and Empat, the island is located
approximately 20 minutes by sea from the port of Karangantu.
The distance is closer to the mainland than the other two islands.
Pulau Lima Banten has an area of about 3.5 hectares. Access to the
island of Lima is almost the same as access to the island of Mojan Besar
and the island of Little Pamujan. If you depart from Serang you can use a
private vehicle to go to the port of Karangantu which is located in the
Kaseman, Banten Lama.
The distance from the city of attack is about 30 minutes away. If you
do not use a private vehicle do not worry because from Serang there is a
public transport leading to the port of Karangantu, you only need to pay 5
thousand rupiah to get there.
After arriving at the port of Karangantu then you can rent a fishing
boat or follow a travel package on the island of Lima Banten who prepare
all transportation needs and some facilities at a very affordable price of
Rp. 50.000,00.

Transportation includes return and departure, while some of the
other facilities on offer are banana boats, snorkeling and fishing from the
boat. This price is offered during the tourism promo of the island of Lima. If
you can not find a favorable promo you can still visit the island of Lima by
renting a fishing boat for Rp. 200,000 for one way, would be cheaper if you
bring more entourage. If you and your entourage want to stay then you
can rent an inn on the island of Lima with a price range of Rp. 200.000,00
to Rp. 500.000,00. What can you do on Pulau Lima?
As the other islands of the island of Lima offer a beautiful natural

panorama, you can enjoy it just by relaxing in the gazebo provided while
eating snacks that are also sold around the gazebo, such as noodles,
meatballs, pecel, and various other types of food .
7. KERATON KAIBON BANTEN

Banten Lama Area in Serang Regency left many buildings that have high
historical value. One of the remaining buildings is the Kaibon Palace
located in Kampung Kroya, Kasunyatan Village, Kasemen District. Keraton
kaibon become one of the cultural preservation buildings of Banten
Province that holds the glories of the Kingdom of Banten Lama.
Built in 1815, this palace became the second palace in Banten after
the Surosowan Palace. In contrast to Keraton Surosowan, as the center of
government, the Kaibon Palace was built as the residence of Queen
Aisyah. This is because Sultan Syafiudin as the sultan of Banten to 21
when it was still 5 years old. Kaibon's own name is certainly taken from a
maternal word that has a meaning like a gentle and loving mother.
The Kaibon palace is built facing west with a canal on the front.
This channel serves as a transportation medium to get to the Surosowan
Palace which is located in the north. The front of the palace is limited by a
gate that has 5 doors. The meaning of this number five follows the number
of daily prayers performed by Muslims. The gate is styled Java and Bali
has a height of 2 meters with the shape of Bentar temple as the motive.
This gate is also called the winged gate. At one gate there is a door
paduraksa connecting the front with the main room of the palace.

The main room of this royal palace is none other than Queen
Asiyah's own bedroom. Built with overhang to the ground, Queen's
bedroom is equipped with air conditioning technology. This can be seen
from the hole contained in the room. The hole used to be in the water
content to give a cool effect on the contents of the room.
The palace, which stands on 4 hectares of land, is built using bricks

made of sand and lime. Although it has been destroyed, some of the ruins
in this palace still look the foundation and the pillars are intact.
One of the most obvious is a mosque-like building. The building of

this mosque is on the right side of the gate. In addition to the pillars are
still intact, in the building there is also a pulpit that serves as a place of
establishment khotib.
In 1832 the Kaibon Palace was destroyed by the Dutch side led by
the then VOC Governor General Daen Dels. The attack was done
because Sultan Syaifudin strongly rejected the request of the general to
continue the construction of Anyer-Panarukan Highway. Even the general
envoy Du Puy was killed by the sultan until his head was beheaded and
returned to General Daen Dels. Outraged, the VOC general destroyed the
Kaibon palace to leave the remains of the current debris.
Today, the ruins of the Kaibon Palace leave behind the story of the
glory of Old Banten. Although only a ruin and foundation of the building,
does not make visitors stop visiting the cultural heritage in this province of
Banten. In addition to want to see the glory of Banten past, this palace is
also often used as visitors and young couples to immortalize themselves
with the classical and artistic background of the palace.

Museum Banten Lama Archaeological Site is located in Banten
Lama, Serang, just a few meters away from the Great Mosque of Banten,
opposite the Surosowan Palace ruins that I visited recently. That's
because the lock of the fence lock into the ruins is kept by the officers of
this museum.
The place used by the Museum of Ancient Burmese Archaeological

Site is a one-story rectangular building with a very wide yard. In the front
yard of the museum, somewhat to the right, there is a small cupola inside
which is displayed an ancient cannon collection known as Meriam Ki
Amuk.

Museum Ancient Archaeological Site of Banten Lama stands on
10,000 m2 of land, while the building area is only 778 m2. The museum
was founded in 1984, and the inauguration was made on July 15, 1985 by
Prof. Dr. Haryati Soebadjio, Director General of Culture at that time. In
addition to archaeological objects, this museum also keeps the old
currency, ethnic relics, and ceramics.
A statue of Nandi is large enough but its damaged head is

displayed in the museum room. There is no explanation where and when
this statue was found before it was stored in Museum of Antiquities of
Banten Lama. The existence of the statue Nandi provide evidence that the
influence of Hindu culture also lives in the region of Banten Lama.

there was 1511 when Malacca fell into Portuguese hands, causing
Muslim traders from Arab, Persian and Gujarat areas to be reluctant to
dock and stop there. This led to the Banten area located on the western tip
of the Java section of choice. The merchants divert the voyages past
Banten which is considered to have good economic and geographic value.
Moreover, the traders did not like the Portuguese who had already
controlled the Malacca territory. So was born a large port with the name of
Port of karangantu.
Karangantu Port is the second largest port after the Sunda Kelapa
Port in Jayakarta, said Tom Pires, a drug trafficker from Portugal. It is
recorded in the book "Know the Ancient History and Archeology of Old
Banten" by Uka Tjandrasasmita, Hasan M Ambary, and Hawany Michrob.
In the 16th century, this port became a haven for merchants before

Port of Karangantu can be regarded as one of the starting point of the
development of civilization in Indonesia. In addition, at this port in every
October or November of each year held the Party Ruat Laut or commonly
called the same citizens around as Nadran. And now the name of this
place is often called the Port of Fisheries Karangantu, why so because
now this port is also a center for fish auctions from fishermen who reside in
their own karangantu area. Now there is a sign saying TPI KARANGANTU
right in front of the road to the fish auction center.
