BINBINING CEBU QUESTIONS

1. Describe/Introduce yourself. My name is Luzenne Sanchez Jones and I am proud to
be Cebuana. My filipina roots comes from the hometown of my mother, Tapilon,
Daanbantayan. I may look like I’m “englishera” but I’m actually “bisayang dako.”
2. What inspired you to participate in Binibining Cebu? I believe I am worthy to be
crowned Binibining Cebu because I want to promote the beautiful places, hospitable
people, and extravagant festivals Cebu has to offer. I have always admired Cebu all my
life and I know it has the potential of being the most famous island of the Philippines.
3. What do you think it takes for someone to be Binibining Cebu? The Binibining Cebu
crown can only be worn by a woman who is passionate and knowledgeable about the
beauty and wonders of Cebu. She must have the determination to raise awareness to the
people to stop destroying and start preserving. I believe I have what it takes.
4. What does it mean to be a Cebuana? A Cebuana is a peace loving and family
oriented woman. She takes pride in where she comes from and embodies the filipino
values and customs. I am a Cebuana in heart, in mind, in body.
5. If you were to change something about Cebu, what would it be and why? Cebu is a
perfect island as it is. The only problem is the uneducated people that continuously
pollute the environment and abuse its natural resources. I would change the habits of
these uneducated people by using my title, if crowned Binibining Cebu, to encourage
proper waste disposal and self awareness of the consequences of our actions. Cebu is the
queen island so we must give our respect to the queen.
6. Who for you is the perfect role model who embodies the qualities of Binibining Cebu?
I have full confidence in myself that I am the perfect role model eligible in becoming the
first Binibining Cebu. I strive for step by step improvement of this nation until i reach
success. My community can count on me to impose to the people what should be done to
preserve and promote the beauty of Cebu.
7. What is your dream for yourself? My dream is to become the first Binibining Cebu. I
have a gut feeling that this is my only chance to prove my value as a Cebuana woman
and where that will take me in terms of making a difference to help and preserve the
environment.
8. What is your dream for the country? My dream for the county is for the people to be
self-disciplined. Life is not about comforts of one’s own self but about the comforting
feeling knowing that you’ve done something good that will benefit your environment
and the people around you.
9. If you were to win the crown, what will be the first thing you will do the very next
day? The first thing I will do is call my parents. They cannot watch my pageant for the
first time ever because both of them will be halfway across the world, in America. Im
sure they would be the happiest parents in the world, once they hear the good news, and I
would be the luckiest girl in the whole entire Cebu. I am ready to accept the task of
making Cebu the best place anyone can call home.
10. Tell us about your childhood and how it made you the person you are today. I was
born and raised in North Carolina, USA. I lived in America for 13 years and each
summer break, my family and I would visit Cebu. I developed a love and amazement of
the filipino culture ever since I was little. Everytime my mom would take me to Tapilon,
Daanbantayan I can only remember the excitement I had each time I took a dip in the
ocean and the satisfaction gained from staring at the beautiful tropical scenery of the
northern tip of Cebu.
11. What is *name of municipality/city* or *the locality you are representing* to you?
Daanbantayan is the paradise of northern Cebu. A place where you can unwind and
enjoy simple life in the province away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The food is
fresh and the air is clean. An ideal place for peace and nature.

12. What is your fondest memory of your town or *the locality you are representing*?
When I was 4 years old and staying in Tapilon for summer vacation, I was enrolled as a
visitor student to a montessori and it was fun because I played with a lot of kids. Every
weekend we enjoyed riding in a tricycad going around the barrio of Tapilon with my
cousins and stopping to eat barbeque pork with “puso”(hanging rice).
13. What is your favorite local dish and why do you like it? My favorite local dish is
seafood. All seafood is fresh from the ocean. I particularly like “kinhason” or “liswi”
because it is an authentic dish.
14. What should tourists look for when they want to visit your municipality/city or
*locality you are representing*? Tourist can ride a boat docked in the pier of Maya (next
to Tapilon) for 20 minutes to get to Malapascua Island which is a very nice white sand
beach.
15. What do you like to do during your free time here? I enjoy swimming in the ocean
near the cliff during high tide because the rocks on the sides make such beautiful
scenery. During low tide, it’s fun to wade in the water and look for starfish and perfectly
formed seashells,
16. What place do you frequently visit here in your municipality/city or *locality you are
representing* when you were young? I like to visit Tapilon during the fiesta on May 7
and 8 in the barrio. This is when we celebrate the annual fiesta of San Miguel Arcangel.
17. Make a tagline for your town or *the locality you are representing*. Lets Go
Malbago! Daanbantayan Cebu
18. What is *municipality/city's* or *the locality you are representing* best-kept secret
in terms of places? The cliff(pangpang) in the land that my parents own called San
Pero,in Tapilon, used to be where the old watch tower was built centuries ago. The old
watch tower is the highest point of Daanbantayan built by Datu Daya and the natives to
watch out for invaders and pirates but there was no remains found in its place. That is
where the Daanbantayan name originated. Instead my parents built a gazebo to overlook
the ocean from the cliff(pangpang).
19. What do you think makes your town or*the locality you are representing* the home
that it is for you? The people because I have a lot of relatives living there from my
Mom’s side. They are all part of the Sanchez-Beato Clan.
20. Who is your hometown hero and why? My great grandfather because he was a
constable(right hand of mayor) who kept the peace and order in the community. He
stopped conflict before it started. He rode a horse to go around town and arrested the
trouble makers.
