2 Reflection

Candidates regularly evaluate and reflect on their professional practice and dispositions to
improve and strengthen their ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning
experiences.

This artifact, the Portfolio Blog for this Ed.S program, is a series of reflections created upon the
completion of each course during this program. Each post describes the personal experience that I had
with each course, assignment, and situation throughout this program. As a whole, this series of
reflections illustrates my growth and development during this program.

This artifact demonstrates the ability to regularly evaluate and reflect on my professional
practice and dispositions. With the completion of each course, I posted a reflection about the
coursework. Additionally, there are several reflections from ITEC 7430 that describe my understanding
of various concepts and ideas in instructional technology. Many of the reflections described my growth
throughout each course. As I continue to reflect on my work in this program, I can see direct
connections between new understandings and more effective coaching.

Prior to this program, I have always encouraged my students to reflect on their work and find
efficient ways to summarize their understandings. However, I always suggested my students do this, but
never did much reflection on my own. While working on this artifact throughout the program, I have
gained a much greater understanding of the power of reflection. I have started to incorporate daily
reflections into my daily routine as it helps me to stay focused on my personal and professional goals,
and helps me to stay a better organized and efficient instructional coach. If I were to complete this
artifact again, I would put more thought and effort in to each reflection. Certainly the first few
reflections were not as effective. But as I practiced and worked on developing better reflections and
looking for ways to push myself to grow through these reflections, they came a much more valuable tool
for me.

While I may not be able to point to specific data illustrating a direct correlation between this
artifact and school improvement and teacher and student growth, I believe that as the reflections
helped me become a more effective coach that it had a great impact on student and teacher
development. As I reflected on my work and the work that I completed with teachers, it encouraged me
to incorporate more reflection in my daily coaching. By asking students and teachers to incorporate
reflection in to their work, I believe that this artifact has greatly impacted the way that teachers and
students address growth.
