Time in EDT 180

I was a bit intimidated at the beginning of the semester because I thought the course was going to

be challenging. I only knew the basics about navigating my way around a computer and some

common programs like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and so forth as well as other

programs/software. The three objectives that I have had the most benefit the most with were:

approaching new computer-based tasks more easily with greater confidence, creating a web-

based personal portfolio (Weebly) showcasing projects done over the semester, and creating and

sharing Google-based documents.

I have previously mentioned that I was intimidated by the course because my low knowledge

with computer programs and software. I have become comfortable with being able to properly

use different programs and software. I was super nervous when we started using Microsoft

Excel. I never had an interest in Excel because I did not like the way it looked. I now use Excel

when it comes to calculating different problems in Physics. I like that I can use Excel as a

calculator because you can input different formulas in the program. I also did not like the idea of

working with Publisher. I thought it was going to be difficult, but Mr. Lewallen made the process

of learning how to properly use Publisher easy. I am capable of creating a newsletter now. I am

happy that I was shown how to properly use many different programs especially Microsoft

Word. I now know different shortcuts to finishing a document in a timely manner. A shortcut

that stood out to me in Microsoft Word would be the page break which is done by pressing

“CTRL+ enter.” I now save a lot of time when doing a page break. I wish I had learned that

shortcut a long time ago. I think it is important that I learned to confidently approach computer

tasks because as a future educator and the advancements in technology, it is necessary to know

how to use the programs needed for the job. I also know which program to use when creating

certain documents or projects.

I honestly have to say I did not like the idea of creating a portfolio to display projects that we

were going to do or had done, but I changed my mind after the first portfolio check. I now think

it is cool because I can go back to see my finished work, but I can also share the URL with others

so they can see it as well. Navigating Weebly was a bit confusing to me at first, but I learned my

way around it in a timely manner. I like how you can create the pages how you like. I have never

created an online portfolio, so it was an eye opener for me, but I enjoyed it. I would use Weebly

in the classroom when I become a future educator.

I am now able to better use google documents and so forth especially during group projects. I

now know about Google Forms. I thought it was cool that you can create surveys and get the

results back as data. Google Forms can also be shared with others which makes everything

simpler for a group project. Shared Google documents, presentations, and spread sheets are the

best because you have access to them all the time. Sharing Google documents with the final

project of the class was helpful in every way. The group was able to finish their assigned parts in

a timely manner because we all had access to it. I will continue to use Google-based documents

because it has easy access and there is no need for a hard drive.
