SOME HABITS OF A RIGHTEOUS & GODLY CHILD OF GOD

Can you confidently say that you are a righteous and a godly child of our heavenly father?
A habit is defined as a recurring, often unconscious pattern of behavior that is acquired
through frequent repetition. A godly life is one that is no longer seeking satisfaction
through a sinful lifestyle, but surrendered to God and His will for our life, otherwise
called a sanctified life. The habits are a life of prayer; trust or faith in God; meditation on God’s word; obedience
to God in every area of one’s life; dependence on the Holy Spirit; giving to God and others and developing a habit
of forgiving other people. To develop a life of prayer, a believer needs to be a student of God’s word. Mark 1:35-
37-35- Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary
place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they
exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” A daily habit of talking to your heavenly father is essential. Luke 4:42-
43- At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to
where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. 43 But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the
kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.” Despite the urgency, Jesus found time to
pray to God. We have the upper room, which helps us read a verse, meditate and pray daily. You may be amazed
how God will help you grow through your devotions daily. We pray because we love God. In Luke 11:1-One day
Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray,
just as John taught his disciples.” We need to be taught how to pray, and the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.
We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans
(Romans 8:26). Secondly, we need to have faith or trust in God in every situation because the Lord has estab-
lished his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. God wants us to trust in the Lord with all our heart,
and lean not on our own understanding; in all our ways submit to him, and he will make our paths straight
(Prov3:5-6) We can only build intimacy with trust. We do not need any introduction with a right relationship with
God. Thirdly, we must meditate upon the word of God we read, study, memorize in order to know what God is
saying. We listen to God and He also listens to us. A godly life is one of trust. Fourthly, we must obey God rather
than men. Deut. 27:10-Obey the Lord your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today.”
Deut. 28:1- If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all His commands I give you today, the Lord
your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. God has the ability to help us live sacred & godly better
lives in His world. We need to depend on the Holy Spirit. In Acts 1:8-But you will receive power when the Holy
Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of
the earth.” Jesus told his disciples to wait for power to serve Him. We need the Spirit of God in order to reach out
to unchurched in South O’Brien and North West Iowa. Ephesians 5:18b-19-encourages us to be filled with the
Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your
heart to the Lord. This command is to continue for daily empowerment, so that we are equipped for work at
school, at home, in the community, etc. The sixth is to give to God and others. Luke 6:38-Give, and it will be giv-
en to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For
with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” We need to teach our children how to give, by giving them
change to put in the offering plate every Sunday. 2 Corinthians 9:7-says Each of you should give what you have
decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Finally, God
wants us to develop a habit of forgiving each other. Ephesians 4:26 says-“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the
sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. I encourage you to desire to work
these seven habits into your godly lives because Christ is risen today!!
