Abstract —Exclusive
breastfeeding plays a very
important role to improve the
babies’ nutritional status,
especially to maintain and
improve their growth and
development. It is sufficient for
0-6 month old babies to only
consume exclusive
breastfeeding without any
other supplementary food. The
preliminary survey result
indicated that the coverage of
exclusive breastfeeding in
Blangpipdie was only 49%.
The objective of the research is
to discover the influence of
leaflet on pregnant women’s
knowledge and attitude toward
exclusive breastfeeding in
Blangpidie Subdistrict, Aceh
Barat Daya District. This is a
quasi-experimental research
using pretest-posttest group
designs. The research location
in Blangpidie Subdistrict. This
research was done in October
with population consisting of
all pregnant women in their
third trimester pregnancy and
75 women were taken as the
samples. The treatment was by
disseminating leaflet. The
results are analyzed by using
paired sample t-test. The results
show that there is a significant
difference in the respondents’
knowledge between before and
after the treatment is given with
average margin 3.49 and p
value (0.000) < α (0.05), which
indicates that leaflet have some
influence on pregnant women’s
knowledge about exclusive
breastfeeding . There is a
significant difference in the
respondents’ attitude between
before and after the treatment
is given with average margin
6.64 and p value (0.000) < α
(0.05), which indicates that
leaflet have some influence on
pregnant women’s attitude
toward exclusive breastfeeding .
The results of the research
conclude that the role of leaflet
as supporting media for health
promotion gives some influence
on the improvement of
pregnant women’s knowledge
and attitude toward exclusive
breastfeeding. It is expected
that the Puskesmas make use of
leaflet on exclusive
breastfeeding as one of the
alternatives to improve
pregnant women’s knowledge
and attitude toward exclusive
breastfeeding . It is also
suggested that the Health
Agency make some efforts to
procure leaflet concerning
exclusive breastfeeding as a
facility to promote and involve
the competent people to create
the leaflet so that they are
absolutely interesting, effective,
and efficient.

I. INTRODUCTION
Breastfeeding (ASI) is the
fulfillment of mother and child
rights. Breast milk as the best
baby food created by God is
not replaced with other foods
and beverages. Every first
week of August is designated
as "World Breastfeeding
Week", implemented to raise
awareness of all parties about
the importance of
breastfeeding (MOH, 2016).
The presence of appropriate
protective and nutrient factors
in breast milk ensures good
baby's nutritional status as
well as child mortality and
mortality decreases. Some
epidemiological studies suggest
that breast milk protects
infants and children from
infectious diseases, such as
diarrhea, otitis media and
acute lower respiratory tract
infections. Colostrum contains
immune substances 10-17
times more than mature milk
(matur). Immunity contained
in breast milk, among others,
will protect the baby from
diarrhea and reduce the
possibility of infants affected
by ear diseases, cough, colds
and allergic diseases (MOH,
2014).
