1 SCOPE
This specification together with the below specifications, covers the minimum requirements for the integral
double block and bleed valves to be used in the EPC-3 BRT Expansion Project.
The latest codes and standards as of 1st Jan 2005 shall be applicable.
3 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
The integral double block and bleed valves supplied to this project shall comply with the following
requirements. Where the applicable codes and standards specify more stringent requirements, they shall take
precedence over this paragraph.
(3) All resilient seated valves shall comply with API 607 or API 6FA fire safe design.
(4) Integral double block and bleed valves shall have a bleed (cavity drain) connection from its lower
body. Bleed valve is outside the integral valve.
(5) Integral double block and bleed valves shall have a pressure self relieving mechanism only to safety
side of the valve as indicated in Attachment-1 “Data Sheets for Integral Double Block and Bleed
Valves”, to protect the body in case that its bleed valve is closed and relieving is required by thermal
expansion, etc.
(2) Flanges with ring joint facing shall satisfy the following hardness limitations:
Carbon Steels Min. 160 HB

3.3 Welding
Refer to NG03-KBE-ALL-MS-600-S5.0011 and NG03-KBE-ALL-RS-600-S5.0002. These specifications
shall be applicable to welds in valves such as repairs.
Using FCAW is subject to Purchaser/ Company’s approval before order placement. Welding consumables
used for FCAW on austenitic stainless steel welding shall have Bismuth content maximum 0.002%.
3.4 Materials
(1) Valves shall satisfy the following chemical restrictions.
Carbon steels
CE Max. 0.43%
Carbon equivalent : CE = % C + %Mn + %Cr + %Mo + %V + %Ni + %Cu
6 5 15
Bolts and nuts of pressure containing joints shall be as specified in the table.
(4) Stem packing of valves shall be as per NG03-KBE-ALL-LS-610-S3.0040 Paragraph 6.7.3. Bolted
bonnet/cover gaskets shall be compatible with the body material, the design temperature, and/ or the
process medium.
3.5 Design
(1) End flanges and flanges for bleed connections shall be in accordance with ASME B16.5.
(2) Flange facing finish shall be 125 to 250 micro inches root mean square.
(3) Flanged valves shall be made with integrally forged or cast flanges.
(4) All valve stems shall be provided with a means to prevent “blow out”. Packing glands shall not be used
to provide this protection.
(5) Vendor shall provide extended stems for valves that require insulation as indicated in the data sheets.
(7) The maximum operating force shall not exceed 45 kg (100lbs) and 34 kg (75lbs) at breakout/closure
and midstroke, respectively. Quarter turn valves shall be provided with levers that are 450mm (18 in)
maximum length. The following valves shall be gear operated as a minimum:
CL150 --- NPS 6 and larger
CL900 --- NPS 4 and larger
(8) Handwheel orientation of gear-operated valves shall be changeable at construction site by the
Purchaser without special tools and technique at every 90 degrees. Manufacturer shall submit the gear
orientation procedure at construction site.
(9) Flow direction shall be clearly and permanently marked on the body.
(1) Valves shall be designed and fabricated in accordance with API 6D.
(3) Valves shall be provided with emergency seat and stem sealant injection ports.
3.7 Marking
(1) Double block and bleed valves shall have the following identification:
(2) Valves shall be marked with API Monogram “API 6D” or with the designation of “B16.34” on a
permanently attached nameplate, whichever is applicable.
Valves supplied to this project shall comply with the following requirements. Where the applicable codes and
standards specify more stringent requirements, they shall take precedence over this paragraph.
(1) Positive materials identification (PMI) shall be performed in accordance with the project specification,
NG03-KBQ-ALL-QS-600-S7.0030 and the below list.
Body Material
Body/Bonnet N/A
Body Bolting 5%
Stem/Shaft 5%
(2) Valves shall be pressure tested in accordance with API598 and NG03-KBE-ALL-LS-610-S3.0040
paragraph 8.3.
8.1.1 Valves shall be properly packed and rust prevented by manufacturers. Details of packing and rust preventions
are subject to Purchaser’s approval.
8.1.2 Rust preventions on gasket contact surfaces of valves shall be easily removable using common solvent such as
thinner or acetone at construction site.
8.2 Packing
8.2.2 Integral double block and bleed valves shall be shipped in the fully open position.
8.3.1 Integral double block and bleed valves shall be painted in accordance with the paint system specified in the
data sheets and NGBT-JGE-BT-MS-600-S0-2000 (S-00-13A0-001) “Painting Producting Facilities” by
manufacturers. The following parts shall also be painted in accordance with the same painting system as valve
body by manufacturers.
Outer surface area from the outer-edge of raised face to outer-end of flange
Inside surface of bolt holes of end flange
