Aims and Objectives
Aims:
Lack of physical activity is a global public health issue. Many people don’t consider physical
activity as an important part of their life. We should determine the ideal activity level based
upon age, health condition, environment for any assistance one may refer to the guidelines,
different countries have identified & published physical activities guidelines. WHO (World
Health Organization) also has global recommendations, which are specific to different age
groups and include guidelines for persons with reduced mobility. For example, for persons
aged 5 to 17, WHO recommends at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity at moderate to
vigorous levels. For older individuals, at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of
vigorous aerobic physical activity (or a combination thereof) are recommended each week.
For older adults whose mobility is poor, WHO recommends physical activity on three or more
days each week. However, this target is not being achieved by a considerable percentage of
people, especially in Pakistan.
It is widely known that physical activities contribute individuals to keep them physically fit.
However, the current life style of people negatively effects the number of exercise people
does regularly. The lack of consciousness in people regarding physical health stops them from
doing any physical activity.

Research Objectives:
- The objective of this research is to find out why people are not motivated enough to
be physically fit and the actions that need to be taken to help people be physically
active.
- To determine if the use of smartphone devices in supporting health change is
promising.
This study emphasizes on providing people with a platform which provides people with
incentives which keep them motivated to exercises regularly.

Literature Review
In this era where physical health is considered as most important for human beings, there
have been many evidence gathered which indicates the benefits of health and wellness of
physical activity and fitness. Without any doubt we can say that almost everyone is aware of
the importance of physical activity in daily life yet they do not exercise at all. Doing exercise
regularly can play a vital role in preventing a number of diseases. Leading public health
officials have suggested that physical activity is related to the health of people. It cut down
the risk of getting several crucial diseases and also positive changes with respect to other risk
factors for these diseases.
Physical activity can be considered as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that
require energy expenditure. Physical activity and fitness are methods of health and wellness
promotion. They contribute to quality living associated with wellness and good health. Active
people increase their life expectancy by two years compared to those who are inactive
(www.mhhe.com).
Across the socioecological framework, preceding research clearly identify various factors that
effects youth physical activity behaviours. They include intrapersonal factors such as
enjoyment of physical activity, interpersonal factors such as social support, cultural factors
such as acculturation, environmental factors such as availability of parks and recreational
centres.
Monitoring physical health and energy expenditure is foremost for maintaining adequate
activity levels with an impact and well-being. Smartphones have sensors present in them
which can monitor user’s physical activity anytime and anywhere knowing the fact that
people keep their mobile phones everywhere they go. Using a smartphone device to monitor
your daily physical activity can help you keep a track of the amount of exercise you do every
day.

Methodology
The methodology used for carrying out this research will be quantitative analysis where
participants will be asked to fill out survey forms which will later be used to obtain results.
The study will be conducted in SZABIST Karachi Campus, the population for this research
will be students of SZABIST, the sample size will be around 200-300 individuals where the
anonymity of students will be preserved. The sample includes willing males and females
from all the departments of SZABIST.

The research question was designed to discover why people aren’t motivated to exercise
regularly. It was important to collect data on such topics to find people’s perspective and
come up with some actual solutions. The survey will consist of 10-15 questions will be
carried out in the English Language as English is both the official working language and the
academic language for students in Pakistan. The research does not collect identifying
information of individual subjects (e.g. name, address, email address etc).

Expected Outcomes
The outcome of this research would be to focus on the reasons why people are not taking
physical health as seriously as they should. This research puts light on what could be done to
keep people physically fit and motivate them to exercise regularly and what are the factors
that hinder them from exercising. It can also be deducted from this research that appropriate
and regular physical activity and fitness programmes also help to mitigate the negative
consequences of crucial diseases. This special issue highlights research on the determinants
and outcomes of physical activity among people and how mobile phone applications can play
a vital role in motivating people to be physically healthy.
