A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English 7

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:

a. identify the theme and the meaning of the short story entitled “The Wedding
Dance” using elements of the short story;
b. develop a greater understanding about Philippine Culture; and
c. perform role play related to the short story.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Identifying the theme and meaning of the short story entitled “The
Wedding Dance”
Title: Wedding Dance by Amador Daguio
Reference: http://www.storyboard.com/teacher-guide/wedding-dance-by-
amador-daguio
Materials: Visual Aid, Big Book, Cartolina, Power Point presentation and Video clip.

III. Teaching Procedure


A. Preparation

1. Daily Routine
a. Daily prayer
The learner leads a short prayer.
b. Checking of Attendance
The classroom secretary reports on the attendance of her
classmates.
c. Checking of Cleanliness
The learners check the classroom’s cleanliness.
d. Greetings
2. Review of the Past Lesson
The learners identify the elements of the short story if it is Character, Setting,
Plot, Conflict or Theme.
1. It is the central idea or belief in a short story.
2. It is a series of events and character actions that relate to the central
conflict.
3. It is the time and place in which it happens.
4. It is a person or animals, who take part in the action of a short story.
5. It is a struggle between two people or things in a short story.

3. Motivation
The teacher shows a video clip about husband and wife.
The teacher shows pictures about marriage in different countries. (culture
and tradition)

B. Presentation of the Lesson


The teacher presents a big book and the learners read a story entitled “The
Wedding Dance” by Amador Daguio. The learners are grouped into five. Each
group is given a task to find the element of short story that assigned to their
group. Afterwards, the learners present their works. While reading the summary
of the story, the teacher asks the following questions:

1. What is the relationship of Awiyao and Lumnay?


2. How long they’ve been husband and wife?
3. Why the husband did have to marry another woman?
4. Why do you think Lumnay refused to the wedding dance?
5. What did Awiyao gave to Lumnay?

C. Generalization
What is the message of the story entitled “The Wedding Dance”?

D. Application
The learners answer the question, for boys, “If you were Awiyao, what will you do?
Are you going to continue the wedding or to back to Lumnay?” for girls, “If you were
Lumnay, what will you do? Will you accept your culture or not?

IV. Evaluation
The teacher asks the learners if they are agree or disagree on the following
statement:
1. Traditions bind us.
2. A man, to become a man, must have a child to come after him.
3. Life is not worth living without a child.
4. Culture separates happiness.

V. Assignment:
The teacher shows a video clip. The learners are going to have a role play regarding
the story “The Wedding Dance” on the next meeting.
