CHAPTER III

RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT

This research will be conducted at PNTC COLLEGES located at Zone III Lt., Cantimbuhan st.,

poblacion, Dasmariñas Cavite; the researchers will focuses on how Managing Human Cyber Risk in the

Maritime Industry and also to give more knowledge to others especially to the maritime company at other

maritime researcher.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Based on the gathered data, the researcher encounter problems

Question 1: What are the impacts of human cyber risk in the maritime industry?

Answer 1: the impacts of human cyber risk in the maritime industry are Business disruption, financial

loss, damage to reputation, damage to goods and environment, incident response cost, and fines/ or legal

issues.

Question 2: What are the ways to prevent the cyber risk in maritime industry?

Answer 2: 1. Make sure your satcom system isn’t on the public internet

2. Change the manufacturer’s default passwords on your satcom system

3. Update the software on your satcom system

4. Separate your onboard bridge, engineroom, crew, wifi and business networks

5. Secure USB ports on all ships systems

6. Check all onboard wifi network passwords

7. Do not rely entirely on technology for safe navigation


8. Teach your crew about cyber security

9. Ask for proof from your technology suppliers that they are cyber secure

10. Get a vessel security audit

Question 3: What is the common cyber attack in the Maritime Industry?

Answers 3: The common cyber attacks in the Maritime Industry are cyber thieves, hackers, fake

news, cyber scammers,

SUMMARY

Base on the gathered data from the respondents, the researchers came up with the following findings.

1. the impacts of human cyber risk in the maritime industry are Business disruption,

financial loss, damage to reputation, damage to goods and environment, incident response

cost, and fines/ or legal issues.

CONCLUSION

The results presented suggest that the shipping company should be aware in cyber attacks

to prevent serious problem in the maritime industry. Because now a day’s hackers and cyber

thieves are smarter to illegally collect information to the company. Maritime company should

not rely entirely on technology for safe navigation because internet is uncontrollable of cyber attacks

and hacking by unknown persons.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on the given conclusions, the recommendations were drawn by the researchers to know how

Managing Human Cyber Risks in the Maritime Industry.

We recommend that some cyber security should improve more that the current security because

cyber security nowadays are easily hack by unknown person to prevent more lost of private files that been

collected by hackers. We recommend that cyber security must upgrade their systems to lessen the

cybercrime that is happening in the maritime industry and to stop the reported fake news in the maritime

industry and cyber scamming in all the shipping company.
