Artifact: Data Inventory

Data Analysis and School Improvement, ITEC 7305 class focused on analyzing the
purpose of different assessments and how they are used. The table is compiled examines 16
different assessments based on content, students assessed, accessibility, and data use. In
addition, I provided commentary on how the assessment could be used more effectively. To
complete this artifact, I had to work collaboratively with administration, coaches, and the data
specialist through professional learning content meetings.
The suggestions for more effective use of the data is where the artifact segues into the
modeling and facilitation of diagnostic, formative, or summative assessments. The
assessments given at Hapeville Elementary school are very frequently considered high-
stakes, state-mandated assessments, such as the Georgia Milestones assessment or the Iowa
Test of Basic Skills (ITBS). This artifact required a cross examination of all the diagnostic
and formative assessments used throughout the school. It included collecting information on
the purpose, time, grade level, academic usage, and any suggestions on effective use. As a
result, to complete the artifact I needed to use diagnostic, summative, and formative
assessments to measure student learning and technology literacy. To complete the
artifact, I met with the data specialist, instructional coaches, and department chairs to review
the list of assessments for each content and grade level.
From completing this artifact, I have learned to work with data, collecting it from various
sources and collectively put it in inventory. Through cross collection and completion of the
artifact various school administrators could see how many assessments are conducted in the
school. In the future, I would have liked to meet with everyone together to discuss the
assessment list, purpose of the assessments, and share the results. In addition, I would have
allowed more time and offered more in-depth suggestions on how assessments can be
eliminated or used to improve the instructional process.
This artifact impacts school improvement in that it will help faculty, school
administration and students. The data inventory helps organize the number of assessments
used in the school. It offers a composite table for all departments to review and reflect on. In
addition, it opens the conversation about over testing students and if the assessments are
being effectively used. The impact of such conversation will be determined by the testing
schedule for the following academic year.
