Chapter 3

Language
When I asked three ladies if I could interview them about the Preschool where they teach
at, they were very nice and agreed. The first person that I interviewed was Miss Tauni she used
to teach just the Tuesday, Thursday morning class. Now the afternoon teacher has quit so Miss
Tauni took both classes on Tuesday and Thursday. The second was Miss Lindy she is a teacher
for Monday, Wednesday in the afternoon class. Finally, the last one is Hilarie Peterson she loves
kids so much that she made her own preschool on her families farm called,” Little Farmers
Preschool”.
Miss Tauni- knows the English language and she learned American Sign Language in
High School and still remembers some signs to make a conversation.
Miss Lindy- said that she doesn’t know any other language except for English, but she
does know the kid language. That includes body language, and the language of the heart (
Emotional ) if you do this it is a true connection.
Hilarie- I was shocked by how many languages she knows, she knows the classic
language here, English, French, Spanish, and Armenian. I had no idea what the Armenian
Language was so I did some research and found that it is the Indo- Europian Language mainly in
Armenia.

Human Rights
Miss Tauni- she answered that we need to obey the laws that we have, to vote, freedom in
order to have that then we need to obey the laws, speech, and we have a choice.
Miss Lindy- said it was hard to know the difference between what we need and our
rights. Some of the things she talked about how everyone needs to be understood so that goes
along with speech, and listening. Others were the right to be free, equal, to have Liberty, Justice
for ALL, being accepted of who you are.
Hilarie- answered that we should all have access to food, shelter, and health care.

Miss Tauni- does think it is because of it freer than other preschools that are in some
school districts. The preschools that are in the districts are more strict about what they teach and
how to teach it. Whereas the preschool we, the teachers and the owner decide what we should
teach and the teachers can teach it their own way. This preschool is really awesome because
they know that all classes aren’t the same so you can’t teach them the same way, that is what I
noticed and what I love in this preschool.
Miss Lindy- I love how she responded of how she talked about the kids and how they are
heard, speak, being accepted, understood, and have respect. We need to follow the Laws this
doesn’t mean that we can do whatever we want.
Hilarie- said what she said up above that we should all have access to health care to the
people who have a lot of money to the people who aren’t as fortunate.
Race, Racism, Ethnicity, and Nationalism

All of the people I interviewed were all white or causation whichever one you prefer to
say.

Miss Tauni- said that their race, white, they say is very valued, we have the majority and
that helps being valued. She hopes that not only white people feel valued but also others that
lived and immigrated here.
Miss Lindy- says that there are people mainly people with different skin color out there
who think that the whites are superior, and they aren’t.
Hilarie- whites are valued a little too much, but she knows and she has taught her
children that people aren’t as privileged to have what we have. The ways Hilarie helps the
unprivileged people by going to volunteer work with some refugees and she takes her kids too.
They also hire men from Mexico and bring them here ( with visas ) and make sure that they get
paid enough and are treated equally.

Miss Tauni- We are very fortunate and proud to be an American because of our legacy,
and all the men and women in uniform helping to defend our country. She has said these things
of why she is so patriotic is because her dad and grandfather were in the military.
Miss Lindy-” I LOVE IT!” she goes on to say that she was taught to be grateful for this
country. Her dad loved the American Flag it always hung in their home with respect and love.
Her dad loved the flag because he was having dinner in Germany with a family ( this was the
time Hitler was coming into power ) and someone knocked on the door. The guests wanted to
speak with the father when the father went to them that was the last time that family saw their
dad. When Lindy’s dad came back he was so happy that we live in this country, and his motto to
have a happy life was...

“Love of God,
Love of Family,
Love of Country.”
Hilarie- is very grateful that we live in this country that lets us choose what we worship
and believe what we want. Even thou we have so much to be thankful for we shouldn’t forget to
help the people who don’t have the privilege to be free and help them out.

Miss Tauni- also says a 10 she thought of some scary scenarios that could happen for
example if a person came up to her with a gun and asked, “Are you an American?” What would
she say? She decided that it is still good, to be honest.
Miss Lindy- says that she is a 10 because in her experience with traveling to Italy
everyone knew that they were American just by the way she and her husband dressed.
Hilarie- has been to a lot of countries and has been careful of what she does in those
countries. Other Americans haven’t done their best in some countries and she tries to show that
not all Americans are like that. We get a little ticked off when people come to America and they
don’t know English. Hilarie says that we should try not to be so mad when that happens because
when Americans go to another country they most likely don’t know the language.

Miss Tauni- Agreed with Miss Lindy as long as they do it the right way or the lawful
way.
Miss Lindy- says that only if they come in legally, the right way because they need to
respect our laws. If they do come illegally then that really puts fear into her heart because she
and her family might not as protected. If we are not allowing them in just because they are
different from us that is not okay. In Lindy’s elementary class in California, she was the only
white girl, and her best friend was a Chinese girl. This helped her to not see color but to see a
persons personality and who they truly are.
Hillary- She read an article that as we tighten the borders there are less paying jobs
available if this continues out industry won’t end well. We have enough resources to help and
support the immigrants and refugees to live a good life here.

Gender and Sexuality

All of my interviewers identified themselves as a female.

Miss Tauni- put a number 1 on the scale she isn’t supportive of people changing their
gender. Her reasons are that God has given our gender to us and we should live it as he had
planned for us, we don’t choose.
Miss Lindy- gave a 5-6 because she feels like God has given them a gift and they want to
change it. She also loves everyone, even though she might not agree with what they are doing
she still loves them.
Hilarie- She is very strongly for it she thinks it is about time that women get more say in
things, and we need to change our ways for the better. Everyone has something to contribute and
it should be what our expectations are or what our roles in society say. The discrimination and
unequal payment needs to stop or decrease to a stop.

All of the interviewers identified themselves as straight.

Miss Tauni- God is a loving God if he wanted you to be a girl/ boy her would've done it.
Miss Lindy- We need to be open minded so we can help to understand people and what
they are doing, still love them. It is hard when you don’t agree to find out why they are doing
what they are doing, but there is always a reason.
Hilarie- We should still have an open mind to everyone and everything even though we
don’t agree with them, we still love them. The thing that pains her is to hear that so many of the
suicides are from people who have had mental health issues and sexual issues.

Miss Tauni-we need to find a balance between Males and Females if we do this then it
will be the perfect society. She also mentioned the Family Proclamation to the world, where it
discusses what her religion believes as the roles are of Men and Women. Men: HUGE! Father
Figure, Kind, Loving, Hard Workers, Protectors, and Providers. Females: HUGE! Here for a
purpose, Nurturer.
Miss Lindy- Men: Leaders, Guiders, Protectors, Providers, that family has basic needs.
Women: Nurture, Respect, Supporters, Care, Love, Encourage, Help ALL people, Draw strength
from Men.
Hilarie- Both play an important role in the physical and the psychological are different.
MEN: helping the wife when she is pregnant. Women: having kids

Miss Tauni- Males: are a big help in preschool they play with the kids on party days.
They can connect to a kid their own way and it is different than a mothers connection but it is
still so very important to the kid. They provide a different perspective, they still care with the
kids and plays with them, which helps the kid to develop more. Females: are more of the
preschool teachers, they help teach core and life values, and they are kind.
Miss Lindy- Males: students see who they are, and what their roles are and toys help with
that, for example, trucks, race cars. Females: are the same as the males but with different ways
to find their roles and toys. - dolls -play house - cooking set.
Hilarie- She has been more focused on female discrimination but men also have
discrimination too especially in this area. When you think of a woman alone with a child you
think it is normal, when you think of a man alone with a child you think, “ What is he going to
do to my kid?” On the farm they have men working and the kids get to talk with them
sometimes, but we need more male interaction.

Kinship, Family, and Marriage

Miss Tauni- definition of family, people bonded together in love and harmony and they
are willing to sacrifice for the other members in the family.
Miss Lindy- a Family is a group of people that live, love, and learn with another in a
home. Then there is your neighborhood family, then your city family, state family, country
family, world family, universe family.
Hilarie- her personal definition of what a family is very fluid, she hasn’t been by her
family, so visiting is harder. So, she invites others who don’t have any family gatherings to
gather at their house, because of this they have adopted “aunts”, “ uncles”, and “Grandparents”.

Miss Tauni- Family isn’t just blood or marriage they can also be adopted, but there are
guidelines as she mentioned previously up above.
Miss Lindy- Family can be outside of our “normal family” and have kids that are adopted
because you can be a eternal family.
Hilarie- is the same thing as up above.

Miss Tauni- Marriage is between a man and a woman by Gods authority so we can help
to replenish the earth. Miss Tauni got proposed and became engaged in Ireland their marriage
rings say you become one, have a center of love, loyalty, and Friendship. You need the right
person, have the right time, and you need the right authority (Gods).
Miss Lindy- a union of a man and a woman, you make promises to them for example to
have and to hold, keep them, help build each other for the good. Most important of all make sure
you can talk to your spouse easily because they are your best friend.
Hilarie- says that marriage in her point of view is between a man and a woman but just
because she believes this it doesn’t mean that we should discriminate people who think
differently than us.

Miss Tauni- Her marriage view doesn’t change because of the preschool if there was she
will still love them but not agree with them.
Miss Lindy- Agrees with Miss Tauni and says that even if someone did we would Stand
Tall And Remain Strong ( S.T.A.R.S ).
Hilarie- In this preschool, we don’t really teach marriage or anything like that.
