Project Overview:
Summary – give an overview of the project (Limit 150 words)

This project is to enhance students’ skills and learning outcomes in media production so that students will have
what it takes to design artistic projects in an engaging way that will heighten students understanding and
appreciation across all disciplines. The year book coordinator selects 8 students a year to be a part of the year
book committee. To compensate students for their time and effort, students are automatically enrolled in a
journalism course which gives students an opportunity to gain high school credit by using the journalism course
as an elective. Due to the fact most of the technology equipment is outdated and damaged and the fact there
isn’t enough funding to purchase new equipment, most equipment used in the course is on a first come first
come basis, thus leaving students to share, fight over, or left with the option to use their own personal devices
to capture photos, videos and audio. Furthermore, students work out of the conference room where there is no
storage for securing the equipment in a safe place, thus leaving students to have to store equipment in the
SLMS office. Being so, with this grant I would like to purchase a standup file cabinet to safely store equipment
in the conference room and purchase four new audio recorders, and four new cameras for taking Typevideos and
text here
pictures.

2
Creativity – Describe the creative elements of the project. (Limit 100 words)

The new cameras will allow students to capture high quality sharp images and videos which will be
useful and effective when capturing school events. The audio recording devices will allow students
to record clear audio in many different formats and choose different qualities and features for
adjusting background noise, recording time, options for listening through headphones, and uploading
audio to a computer for storing which will be ideal for creating and developing assignments.
Additionally, with the new file cabinet, students will have the opportunity to store supplies used for
projects and have a place to store equipment and their personal belongings while there’re walking
around the school taking pictures and videos and obtaining voice recordings for special events.

Goals – What are the goals and objectives for students? (Limit 100 words)
The goals for this project are for students to demonstrate the ability to be write creatively, develop an
understanding of photography, and video recording, in addition to conducting research that will
enable them to analyze individuals in society so that their projects and assignments can be diverse,
useful, accurate, and engaging. Through the use of the media production equipment students will
have opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge of delivering information in multiple formats and
demonstrating their knowledge of utilizing UDL principles for presenting information to an audience
of people from different backgrounds and learning needs.

Implementation – How will you implement this project? (Limit 100 words)

With the video recorders and cameras, students will use the technology devices to go around the
school to capture photos of students for the yearbook, and record videos at school games, and
other events such as prom, JROTC balls, and pep rallies. The storage file cabinet will be used by
yearbook and journalism students only. Students will use the storage space to safely store and
organize equipment and free up space in the conference room for designing video projects,
creating stories, and recording audio.

3
Benefits – What are the immediate and/or ongoing benefits this project will provide students? (Limit
100 words)
The immediate benefits and/or ongoing benefits this project will provide students is an
increase in critical thinking skills, understanding of the world, improvement of
communication skills, and development of time management and self-discipline skills.
