Impact Drug Use Has on the Global Community

Throughout this course we have touched on a lot of different drugs around the world and

also the most common ones. From marijuana to cocaine as well as alcohol. All these drugs have

a large effect on the community whether it’s positive or negative. Even though not the majority

of the population consumes drug we are often around it whether we know it or not. Many people

use drugs whether they smoke marijuana once in a while or if they’re addicted to heroin.

With drugs also come a lot of crime and violence. Example the cartels mainly located in

Mexico and Colombia where it all once started. Cartel leaders have a lot of power over the town

where they are located. The Sinaloa cartel is one of the most powerful cartels in the world. It was

once ran by Joaquin Guzman Loera but he was caught a couple of years ago and has been in jail

in New York since. But although the leader is now locked up this does not stop the distribution it

just continues and makes the cartel more aware of where they went wrong so it doesn’t happen

again. The next person in life will take over and this cycle will continue if this happens again

with the next leader. Cartels are so powerful they have control over the government as well.

They buy the government over with money and sometimes government officials don’t really

have an option. Cartel leaders will target their family and loved ones if they do not obey their

commands.

Drugs have taken over our world. Many people consume drugs and that is why the

suppliers keep profiting from it. Right now we are having a problem right at home, Utah, we are
having an opiate problem. Many people who get prescribed pain medication will abuse their

medicine and consume them even after they are no longer suffering pain. They get into a state of

relaxation. They feel calm and drowsy. Different drugs have different effects but they all also

have similar effects. People who consume more hardcore drugs like cocaine, heroine, or fentanyl

have a hard time quitting and decreasing the amount that they consume. They have withdrawal

side effects of sweating, vomiting, anxiety, and even depression. Because of the hard withdrawal

symptoms, it is very hard for individuals to quit. Once they are addicted it is easier for them to

continue getting high than to go through these painful stages.

Although drug production is illegal in most parts of the world it brings in a lot of money

into the economy. The suppliers are so rich because of all the drugs that they sale on a daily

basis. The Mexican cartels are one of the richest cartels around the world. They transport drug

mainly to the United States and also distribute it in Mexico and sometimes in South America.

With so much people consuming cocaine it just makes the cartels more rich and powerful. They

never don’t have anyone to sell to therefore they never stop producing it. Although the cartel gets

their money in an illegal way they do sometimes put it towards a good cause. Some cartels are

loved by the people in their towns because they have done more for them than the government

itself. They build parks and community centers for the people, they pave the roads and take care

of their people. Pablo Escobar is a very famous cartel leader who was love by his community

because he did a lot for his town. Many civilians were on his side when it came down to

choosing between him or the government. They would lie for him and at times hide him in their

home when he was on the run. Marijuana is another drug that brings a lot of money. In the states

where marijuana use is legal the states profit a lot from the sales because so many people

consume it. It is the second most common drug in the world.

 This course has taught me a lot about the drugs around the world and has made me more

knowledgeable about the production and consumption of these drugs. Drugs are all around us

and many people are addicted to them if the people who least expect it from. It is a very strong

and powerful thing to be addicted to them and does a lot of harm
