Oil Contamination Guidelines- Telsmith Crushing

and Vibrating Equipment
Element Acceptable Guideline Marginal Guideline High Guideline
Copper (Cu) Below 75 PPM 125 PPM Above 200 PPM

Iron (Fe) Below 50 PPM 100 PPM Above 150 PPM

*Silica (Si)(Dirt) Below 50 PPM 75 PPM Above 150 PPM

Tin (Sn) Below 20 PPM 40 PPM Above 50 PPM

Water Below 0 PPM 0 PPM Above 0 PPM

+Phosphorus (P) Above 50 PPM Below 50 PPM Below 50 PPM

*Silica limits must be interpreted in relationship to copper and iron levels. If high silica is accompanied by
high copper and / or Iron, it is considered abrasive and the oil is rated unsatisfactory.

+Phosphorus is an EP additive and be must be present at greater than 50 PPM, loss or lack of
phosphorus indicates no Extra Pressure additives are present.

GENERAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE USE OF THE OIL CONTAMINATION GUIDELINES

1. All oil samples should be analyzed both by the gravimetric method and for PPM of the major
contaminants. This will supply both the information about wear rates and possible causes of this wear.
2. If an unusual increase is seen over a 2 to 4 week period in any of the above probable cause (ferrous or
non-metallic may indicate whether cause is internal or metallic contact or infiltration of dust or rock).
3. On all crushers that are experiencing high bushing, bearing, or seal wear, the gravimetric analysis of
the oil will help indicate the possible source of the wear (ferrous, metallic, non-metallic).
