Modi’s Miscalculation
A state of emergency is what these two countries, Pakistan and India, have been
encountering for many years. Both have been enemies and were separated in 1947. It makes me
sad to hear that Pakistan launched an attack in the Indian controlled territory of Kashmir especially
since they are the ethnicity. Although they are all different religions such as Hindu and Muslim,
in a weird twisted way it reminds me of a civil war because of the aspect being that their ethnicity
is the same. It is also sad to know that when it comes to death it hurts more to hear that 40 of your
own soldiers died, but if one heard 40 civilians died grief wouldn’t resonate as long. The idea of
extremism is what keeps these two countries from finding peace. During the Cold War Pakistan
and India were allies, but since then their relationship has been dysfunctional. As long as Pakistan
As for India themselves their prime minister, Narendra Modi continues to keep from
escalating further attacks and aggression. I think that Modi’s leadership has worked for a while
now, but his ego gets in the way of making him a great leader. Yes, he has allowed the economy
to grow and maintain strong for about 7% a year, but his rule has also created unemployment for
many. He has also kept many of his promises and followed through with them as opposed to others
who have not done anything to accomplish their promises. In fact, India has problems of its own
which I think will make it harder for them to focus on what Pakistan is doing. Modi had to close
elections in Jammu and Kashmir because of protests against the central government. As Modi
prepares for the next election his ego gets in the way because he thinks he can pull it off by acting
like “Mr. Tough-Guy”, especially around Pakistan, but his tactics could cause another fight. He
may think that acting this way will help with his campaign, but in fact it could jeopardize the rest
of India.
