TOYOTA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJuryU-OEBc

 TOYOTA focuses on TOYOTA development system having planned concept, design,

engineering part, followed by management system and finally service system.

 For this 92 tools have been documented for complete system but here focuses on some

of the important tools only like improvement efforts, Oobeya means big project rooms

and quality into process.

 TOYOTA believes in leaders to do first not the people or workers involved.

 Definition for output is get the person which very valuable according to TOYOTA then

recognize and show his ability to do work , finally get improvement by motivation in

form of praise.

 Western people follow the strategy to think -> do ->finished. While TOYOTA believe

in think -> do immediately -> think again for other. So it do continues work.

 TOYOTA don’t start with rules but start with familiarization with tools as discussed

above, oobeya, culture, self-sustaining, changing behaviours.

 Quantified targets can be achieved by collaborations, clear accountability, integrated

approach.

 Oobeya are real rooms with visualization, objective, output metrics. They follow only

2 colours red to green(Start to end). There is no place for yellow colour to halt. Here it

requires concurrent schedules with no change in planning. Issue board for discussion

should be concise and perfect. Proper preparation before meeting is important as only

2 issues per week are to be discussed.

 Quality into process is brought by occurrence prevention and outflow prevention with

perfect jobs at every stage(gate).

 Proper planning -> design -> test -> production –> delivery leads TOYOTA to serve

customer right at the very first attempt.

 This requires standardization of work with design and process, quality administration,

improving design, reviews, training to multitalented engineers.

 Project leaders are involved completely and follow ups are taken so that project

completes in short time period for proceeding to other project.

 TOYOTA uses IT tool v-comm (Virtual tool) very effectively for global development.

 Standardization process have TLSC (Tool link system chart) with inputs and outputs of

work, process flow, accountability map followed by check sheet a single sheet instead

of a long check list.

 Integral approach includes project with target and function -> documentation ->skill

map -> visual board -> redirecting again to project.

 TOYOTA starts working from leaders, tools, management, standardization, disciplined

work and not by culture and behaviours.
