    The skin has several layers and tissues that work together to protect the body. The outermost layer is made up of dead skin cells that are shed. Below this are layers of live skin cells, blood vessels, nerve cells, sweat glands, oil glands, hair follicles, muscle tissue, and fat tissue. Nerve cells help the body sense touch and temperature. Blood vessels carry food and oxygen to skin cells. Oil glands produce oil to keep the skin soft.

    much water from leaving the body. Your skin has many layers
    and tissues that work together. Nerve cells help you sense touch
