You recently stayed in a hotel in a large city.

The weather was very unusual for

the time of year and the heating / cooling system in the hotel was quite
inadequate.

Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter:

 give details of what went wrong

 explain what you had to do to overcome the problem at the time
 say what action you would like the manager to take

Dear Sir / Madam

I am writing in connection with my recent stay at the Four Seasons in London, England.
Unfortunately, due to a malfunctioning heater in my room, I spent three miserable nights at your
hotel from April 26 - 29, 2010.

When I arrived in London, there was an unexpected snowstorm. I understand it does not usually
snow in April; however, when I got to my room, there was no heat. After complaining, a technician
was sent up, who informed me they had to install a new heating unit. When I asked to be moved to
another room, I was told the hotel was completely booked. Unfortunately, each night after work I
returned to discover the problem had not been rectified. Eventually, I spent three horribly
uncomfortable nights, wearing my coat to bed, wearing socks around the room and ending up with a
bad cold from the unheated room. I had no time to complain as I had to catch a flight home right
after my conference.

I am shocked by this terrible service. This is not what anyone expects for $400 a night! To
compensate me for this tremendous inconvenience, I ask that you refund my money right away and
offer me a free, more comfortable stay in one of your finer suites in the future. If not, I am prepared
to take my complaint to a higher authority.

I look forward to hearing from you at the earliest,

Yours faithfully,

Mr John McFee

You have received a letter from your bank, asking you to acknowledge receipt
of a new bank card. However, the card was missing from the envelope.

Write a letter to the bank's head office. In your letter:

 explain why you are writing

 express concern about the missing card
 ask them what they intend to do

Dear Sir / Madam

I am writing in connection with a missing or stolen debit card from your bank. This is an urgent
matter as the bank card could prove dangerous in the hands of the wrong person.

Just yesterday, I received a letter from your bank's head office. It stated that my new bank card was
enclosed and asked me to acknowledge receipt. However, when the envelope arrived in my mailbox,
it was in a tattered state. More importantly, the debit card which was supposed to be included, was
missing. I checked and rechecked around the mailbox, but found nothing. I am concerned that
someone has gone through my mail and possibly stolen the card.

For this reason I request that you cancel the existing debit card immediately. The debit card in
question is related to my account number 64729401 at your Bay and Bloor branch. After it has been
cancelled, please arrange to send me a new one, as I need to travel overseas next week and will
need to carry the new bank card with me.

Thank you kindly in advance,

Yours faithfully,

Ms Brenda Holster
You have just received a credit card statement from your bank. The statement
lists a number of expensive purchases that you are sure you did not make.

Write a letter to the bank manager. In the letter:

• Introduce yourself.

• Explain that you did not buy the items listed.

• Say what you would like the bank to do to fix the problem.

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Danielle Waters. I have been a customer at your bank, Honest Savings
and Loans, for close to seven years. I am writing today because the recent credit
card statement I have received from you is completely incorrect.

According to the statement, I spent $500 on sporting equipment on August 2nd. This
is ridiculous, as I have no interest in sport and have never in my life purchased any
sporting goods. Moreover, the statement claims I bought this equipment in a
shopping centre in Sydney, but I was in Perth at the time. Clearly, someone has
gained access to my credit card details and used them to make expensive
purchases in my name.

Please remove these false charges and any associated interest immediately. Unless
you do so, I will be forced to contact the Consumer Protection Bureau. I would also
like a new credit card sent out to me as soon as possible.

I thank you in advance for dealing with this matter promptly.

Yours faithfully,

Danielle Waters
You have recently moved into a new house. You want to tell your friend about
your good news.

Write to your friend. In the letter:

• Describe the house.

• Describe the neighbourhood.

• Invite your friend to come and see the house.

Dear James,

How are you doing? As you know, I've moved to my new house and I want to tell you
about this amazing place.

First of all, the house is awesome. It is huge and has a beautiful backyard with a
mini-park for my children and a garden. The house has also two floors: the first
contains four bedrooms and a bathroom in each, while on the second floor there are
an enormous living room, a kitchen and a visit room.

One other thing that a really appreciated was the neighbourhood because it has so
many facilities like a pharmacy, a supermarket, a medical center and a gas station.
As I told you, it's a very nice place.

I really want you to come to my home. Bring your wife and we can have a BBQ
this weekend.

I'm looking forward to your visit.

Take care and see you soon.

You saw a brochure for a one-week walking tour in the mountains. You're very
interested in taking part, but you're not very fit and are worried you wouldn't
be able to keep up. Write to the tour operator. In your letter:

• Explain why you're interested in the tour.

• Ask for information about dates and prices.

• Express your concerns about your fitness level.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am interested in obtaining further information about the one-week walking tour that
you offer to the Cotopaxi as I have always wanted to climb it to the top since I was a
child.

Moreover, the time when it is mostly covered by snow and the ski centre opens is
getting closer. However, I am not a person who exercises regularly which makes me
doubt about taking the tour. That is why I would Like to be informed about the
difficulty level of the hiking and what kind of training would you recommend me to do
from now until the day of the tour.

The brochure I have do not specify the costs of the tour. Besides, it does not clarify
what is included in the package and which dates can be chosen to start the tour.
Therefore, I would
be grateful if you could give me more details about these topics as soon as possible
in order
to start planning my trip.
You are planning a short visit to a city where one of your relatives lives.

Write a letter to your relative. In your letter:

• Explain when and how long you will be in town.

• Ask whether you can stay at their home.

• Offer to pay for yourself.

Dear Aunt Joan,

How are you? How's Uncle Steve?

I'm writing because I'm planning to visit Melbourne next month. I've got school
holidays coming up, and I thought it would be a good time to come over (and do
some shopping!). I've booked a flight arriving on 15 May and leaving on the 25th, so
I'll be in town for eleven days altogether.

Would it be possible for me to stay with you? If it's inconvenient I completely

understand, but I'd really appreciate it. It would also give me a real chance to catch
up with you guys, and with my cousins. Are they all stiU living at home?

Of course, I'd be happy to pay my own way and buy my own groceries etc. In fact, I
could cook you all dinner! You'll probably be surprised to hear it, but I'm a pretty
good cook these days.

Anyway, if ifs a problem just let me know, and I can make other arrangements. Either
way, looking forward to seeing everyone.
You are going on a month training programme to the UK and know that the
head of the course would like one of the participants to be the social events'
organiser.

Write a letter to the Training Organiser. In your letter

• expressing your interest in the role

• requesting more information about it

• explaining what experience you have

Dear Mrs Camden

I am writing on behalf of a group of musicians called The Foxtrot Band'; who have
been using the community hall for rehearsals.

Until recently, they have been using the town hall to practise. However, they were
informed by the council secretary that they would no longer be allowed to do so, but
were not given any reason why.

The band has an upcoming set of gigs at the local community centre, which would
bring in extra revenue for the centres renovation fund, as they have decided to
donate all profits from the gigs.

If it is a case of changing the days of practice, the group are happy to do so;
Mondays and Thursdays would also be suitable for them. I would welcome the
chance to discuss the matter further with you.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely

A.D. Brown

You share a parking area with several neighbours and have recently started
having problems.

Write a letter to be copied to all neighbours that share the parking area. In that letter

• explaining the problems

• suggesting ways to help the situation

• proposing a possible meeting

Dear Neighbours,

I am writing to inform you of a number of problems I have had recently concerning

the communal parking space.

As you are aware, every resident in this block is allocated one space in the parking
area. Since the beginning of the month, however, I have on several occasions been
unable to find a parking space when I return home from work. This must mean that
either some residents are using the area for more than one car or that non-reside/lts
are using the parking area. Also, I have noticed that the parking area is being used
more and more frequently as an area to
dump unwanted furniture which is untidy and a potential health risk.

I am not blaming any individual for these problems but feel that as a group of
residents we should act together to avoid any repetition of these problems in the
future - perhaps by putting up much clearer signs. I would like to suggest that we
meet to discuss these and other issues you may have on Friday March 14th at
7.00 pm. I am happy to host this meeting in my flat (Flat 15).

Please call to let me know if you would be interested in attending this meeting: 2715
688.

Best regards,

Stephen Donald.
There have been some problems with the bus service, especially its reliability,
in your area over the last two weeks.

Write a letter to the manager of the bus company. In your letter

• describe what the problems are

• explain how these problems are affecting you

• suggest what you would like the company to do

Dear

I am a regular passenger on the 388 bus service. I have always found it to be a good
service both punctual and clean. However, over the last two weeks this situation has
changed. The 388 is no longer reliable and it is dirty.

The bus now arrives behind schedule. For example, on the 16th and 17th November
the bus that was scheduled to arrive at Springwood Street at 8.30am arrived at
8.40am. Then, on 21st, 22nd and 23rd November the bus was not only late, but it
failed to stop as well.

In addition, the bus is no longer as clean as it previously was. I have noticed papers
and bottles down the aisle and under seats.

The deterioration of the 388 bus service is unacceptable, and I request that you do
everything possible to return the service to its former punctual and clean level.

I look forward to your swift attention to this matter.

Yours faithfully,
You are part of a group of musicians who meet on Tuesday and Friday
evenings to practise in the community hall.

You have been told, however, that it is no longer possible for the group to use
the hall.

Write a letter to the manager. In the letter:

 describe what the group does

 explain why the group is good for the community
 suggest alternative days and times for practice

Dear Mr Wilkes,

I am one of the trainees due to attend the 'customer care' course in June and I am writing to express
my interest in being the social events organiser for the group.

Could you please send me a little more information about the size and background of the group and
let me know about the facilities at the training venue and what there is to see and do in the local
area. From the programme I have received, it seems that trainees will be free three evenings in the
week and after 1.00 pm on Saturdays at the weekend.

I have some experience of acting in this role as we often run courses here for ov,erseas colleagues
and in the past I have been asked to oversee the social programme by organising trips, nights-out,
and events such as group competitions. This is a role that I really enjoy.

Please let me know if you require any further information or would like me to provide you with the
names of referees.

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest conyenience.

Best ragards,

Although you have never formally studied computing, you have always been
interested in computers. You have just read about a computer course that
really interests you, but it is only for people who have completed an
elementary course.

Write a letter to the college enrolment officer. In your letter

 explain why you are writing

 describe your circumstances
 ask if a special exception can be made for you so you can enrol in the course

Dear,

I am particularly interested in enrolling in the computer course which is being offered at your
college.

I noticed the advertisement in the local newspaper, and I noted that the course is for those who
have formal training in computing at college or university level.

I have not done any formal study in computing. However, I am writing to ask if you would make an
excep-tion to your course entry requirements based on my background reading and the level of
computer skills I have developed.

Computers are my passion and I have built up an extensive computer reference library. I subscribe to
several computer magazines. I have taught myself all major computer languages, including
AppleScript and XQuery. I am familiar with most computer software applications forword
processing, spreadsheets and databases, as well as websites.

I am available for an interview, as well as a placement test so that I can demonstrate both my
knowledge and skills.

I hope you will consider my request favourably.

Sincerely yours,
You have lost your student identification card. This has created some
problems for you.

Write a letter to the director of student services. In your letter

 advise them of your situation

 explain how this is affecting you
 request a new card

Dear ,

I am writing to advise you that I lost my student identification card yesterday and to ask for a new
card to be issued as quickly as possible. There are several reasons why I need a new card by the end
of this week.

I live in the outer suburbs and depend on both trains and buses to get to class every day. I also need
a student card to be able to borrow library books to complete my assignments. Less importantly, I
cannot afford to go to the cinema unless I have a student discount. Again, I need the card for that.

Most importantly, however, I use this card as proof of identification when withdrawing money from
the bank. This week I have to pay rent for next month and will have to withdraw a large amount of
money to cover this. I pay the rent by bank cheque.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Yours truly,
You have a Facebook friend living in another country and s/he is curious to
learn about a major news item in your country.

Write a letter to your Facebook friend. In your letter

 describe a news story in your country

 explain why people are interested in it
 say how the story personally relates to you

Dear,

How are you? The last time you wrote you asked about local news items, so I thought I'd fill you in
on how Australia has been affected by the horrific tsunami which devastated so many countries
around the Indian Ocean.

We first heard the shocking news on Boxing Day (26 December) but no one realised the extent of the
damage or the human toll. It was such an unusual event, something one would only expect to see in
a Hollywood film. Australia was affected because we are part of this region, geographically and
politically.

Australia has close ties with Indonesia and Thailand, so we are focusing our aid chiefly on those
countries. Our Foreign Minister Is there now surveying the damage and key divisions of the
Australian army are helping in Indonesia.

A friend of mine is the manager of one of the large resorts in Phuket - the one which was completely
inundated. Fortunately, he was holidaying in Europe at the time! Many other Australians were not so
lucky.

Trust you are well. Write soon.

You are a member of an organisation which meets regularly at a particular
restaurant. The most recent meal you had there was not satisfactory.
Write a letter to the manager of the restaurant. In your letter

 explain why you are writing

 describe what went wrong with the meal and service
 suggest what the manager should do to ensure that you and your group return
to the restaurant

l am the dub secretary for the North Sydney footbatf dub. Every month the dub committee meets,
and following this meeting we have dinner at your restaurant. I regret to say that last Friday the
meal we had was unsatisfactory, both in terms of the quality of the food and the service.

There were several problems with the food last Friday. Some of the orders were over-cooked, and
one was completely burnt. The salads were definitely not fresh! For example, the lettuce was either
white or brown and definitely not crisp or green.

The service that evening was also not up to your usual standard. We have never experienced such a
long delay. The waiter did not explain or apologise, and did nothing to repair the problem. Fie might
have offered a complimentary drink or something.

Before the club committee would consider returning to your restaurant we would need some
assurance that the food will be fresh and that the service will be courteous and professional.

Yours sincerely,
You have been invited to attend an interview for a place studying a course in a
college. Unfortunately because of a previous appointment you cannot come at the
time they wish.

Write a letter to the admissions tutor and explain your position. Apologise and offer to
come on another day or later the same day. Ask also how long the interview will be
and whether there will be any tests during it.
Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your letter dated 15th May inviting me for an interview at your
college on Wednesday 2nd June at 10am. I am extremely sorry but I am unable to come to
an interview at that time because I have a maths exam that morning. It really cannot I miss
this exam but of course I really wish to attend the interview with you. Is it possible that I
could come to the interview the same day but in the afternoon? Failing that, I would be able
to come the next day or any day after.

I would also like to ask some things about the interview. I would like to know how long it will
last and also whether I will be required to do any tests during it.

Once again I apologise for not being able to attend the interview at the time that you wanted
and I hope I will be able to meet with you at another time.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

James Walker
You have a full time job and are also doing a part time evening course. You
now find that you can not continue the course.

Write a letter to your tutor. In your letter,

 describe the situation

 explain why you cannot continue at this time
 say what action you would like to take

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Muhamad Abdul. I am taking a part-time evening course. I am having a hard

time keeping up with this course. I am afraid I cannot continue the course.
My problem is, I have a full-time job, from 9am – 5pm. Sometimes, I am asked to stay extra
hours, to finish up the rest of the work. That is because the holidays are coming up soon.
Also I have to do some work preparations for the next day.

At night when I get home, I am too tired to even prepare a dinner for myself. Also I have no
time to study for this course.
I would like drop this course this quarter. Then take it again the next quarter. So, please
accept my situation.

Thank you for your cooperation

Sincerely

M. Abdul
You are studying for a qualification, and you would like some time off work to
complete it.

Write a letter to your manager. In your letter:

 Ask for some time off to complete a qualification.

 Suggest what you will do later at work if you have time off.
 Say how the qualification helps your job or company.

Dear Mr Lee,

I am writing to you about the possibility of taking a fortnight off work in order to complete my
Master’s degree in Engineering. I am almost finished writing my thesis, which must be submitted to
my university by June 30th. Unfortunately, all my annual leave has been used up. Any time I took off,
would naturally be unpaid; I would also check my email daily, and be available for emergency phone
calls. On return, I would endeavour to come into the office earlier than usual and work Saturdays in
order to catch up on anything I had missed. I have already spoken about my situation to my
colleagues Mr Grunewald and Ms Tak, who are both willing to assume my responsibilities for two
weeks.

I realise my temporary absence could be an inconvenience to you and the rest of the team, but in
the long term, our company will benefit from my research. As you may be aware, I have been
investigating 3-D printing for some time, and my thesis compares three printers already on the
market with two designs pending patent and production. Since our company is considering
developing software for these printers, my expertise will help give us a competitive edge.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Alexander Aksyonov
You are going to another country to study. You would like to do a part-time job
while you are studying, so you want to ask a friend who lives there for some
help.

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter

 give details of your study plans

 explain why you want to get a part-time job
 suggest how your friend could help you find a job

Dear Sara,

My departure date for Canada is drawing near, and I am busy with preparations. I have enrolled at
an institution called ‘IDT English’ in Ottawa, for a four-month intermediate course, full-time. It is
quite expensive but I am hopeful of improving my pronunciation, especially.

To assist in covering the costs of my study, I aim to find a part-time job. Not only are the college fees
rather high, but also I know that rental accommodation in the capital city will not be cheap, to say
nothing of food and heating expenses! So I would very much like to arrange some temporary
employment before I arrive.

I was wondering if you could ask around among your friends and colleagues to see if anyone wants a
house-cleaner, gardener, or nanny for their children. I know you have a wide social network in
Ottawa which you could canvas for me, if you wouldn't mind. I'd be so grateful.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Best wishes,

Helen
After being involved in an accident, you were looked after by a person you did
not know before. Write a special thank you letter to express your gratitude.

In your letter:

 Introduce yourself and let him/her know why you are writing
 Express your appreciation
 And offer him/ her to visit your home with this family.

Dear John,

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude. I am referring to that unfortunate accident the

other day, when I was knocked off my bike by a taxi. If it had not been for your timely
assistance in giving me first aid and taking me to a nearby hospital, I fear that the
consequences might have been much more serious.

The doctor says that my broken leg is healing well, and the bruises and cuts I suffered will
soon be completely better. In addition, the taxi company has agreed to pay my hospital bills.
Everyone agrees that it was your quick-witted response in that emergency that has lead to
this satisfactory outcome.

Although nowadays many people talk about the need to be unselfish and to help others, we
see very few people practicing what they preach. But you showed by your selfless action
that you are an exception. If there were more people like you, this world would be a much
nicer place.

Yours sincerely,

Ted
A friend you met last year has invited you to visit him/her in his/her country.
You have never been there before and need some information before you
leave.

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:

 request advise about a gift for his/her family

 ask about activities and clothing in his/her country
 find out about the food

Dear John,

I was delighted when I saw your letter containing the invitation to visit your country. I’m thankful to
you for that. It has always been my dream to visit England and to my fortunes; you have provided an
opportunity to fulfill my desire. I would be visiting your country next month. But, since I have never
been there, I would need some information from you.

First of all, I would like to bring a special gift from India to your family. Let me know the kind of
present you would like to have. Further, suggest me the sort of clothing that would suit me to wear
in London. Also, let me have some details about the kind of activity you recommend for me in
London. On top of it, I would like to know about the type of food that would be available from time
to time.

Looking forward to hearing from you at the earliest.

Yours,

Michael
You recently attended a conference and you would like to give a presentation
about the information you gained by attending the conference.

Write a letter to your manager asking for permission to give a presentation. In your
letter:

 describe what type of presentation you have in mind

 what topics it would cover and how long it would take
 who should participate in the presentation and where should it be conducted

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to you to seek permission to conduct a presentation, in which I may share the
knowledge I acquired at the carbon fiber technology conference.

Last week, I attended the carbon fiber conference that is held in Atlanta, USA. The main theme of
the conference was “new developments in carbon fiber manufacturing techniques”

I believe that the knowledge I acquired during the conference is very important for our company. If
we succeeded in implementing the new techniques, we would be able to improve the quality of our
product. Also, such a recent development would allow our production engineers to optimize cost
and desired quality.

Therefore, in order to benefit from the tremendous benefits of the new techniques, I would like to
share my newly acquired knowledge with the team through a presentation.

Thank you so much for your time and support.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Yours sincerely,

Ibrahim
Your family is going to move to another town. Write a letter to the Principal of a local
school asking if they will accept your son. Describe his academic achievements and
scope of interests.

Dear Principal,

I am writing to ask you if there is a place in your school for my son, Ryan Larkin.
Ryan is in Form 9 at his present school. He is interested in Science subjects, so we
are keen to find a school with good science laboratories and teachers.

I am enclosing a copy of Ryan’s school report for last year, which shows his good
marks in science and his love of sport, particularly, football. He is captain of the
under 15’s team which plays near our house. He is also interested in music, and is
part of his school orchestra.

Please let us know if you have an orchestra at your school. We are going to arrive at
our new home in June next year, and we are looking for a house in your area. We
will be happy to provide you with more information about Ryan, and we are looking
forward to receiving information about your school.

I do hope you can find place at your school for a boy with Ryan’s interests.

Yours faithfully

You would like to participate in a work-related seminar in another country.

Write a letter to the person in charge of the seminar and ask for detailed
information regarding the dates, program, accommodation and cost.

Dear Sir / Madam,

My name is Rona Lyn Olivar. I am currently working as an ICU Nurse (Intensive Care Unit)
in a tertiary level and private hospital called the Urdaneta City Sacred Heart Hospital which
is situated in the province of Pangasinan here in the Philippines. I have learned in our ICU
Department that your expert team will be conducted an EKG (Electrocardiogram) thorough
training in Singapore. I am writing to you today because I would also like to attend and ask
about specific information regarding the seminar schedules, about the program,
accommodation and the cost.

Firstly, with regards to dates and time, I would like to ask when will be the seminar held. How
many days will it take and how many hours in a day will we have to engage. What time
would the training be started and ended?

Secondly, I would also want to know what would be the topic outline of the program, the
things we are required to bring something in and what would be the benefits for us
Registered nurses who will be attending the seminar.

And finally, I would also like to know about the accommodation and the cost. Since I am
living here in the Philippines, and Singapore is about 3 1/2 hours from my country and I have
no any relatives or friends in that country. Will you be helping us to settle our staying place
or do we need to have a booking in a hotel? And also because it is my first time to travel
abroad, I do not know how much will I be needing to spend with it.

I am looking forward to hearing from you soon regarding my concerns.

Yours faithfully,

You took your family to a nearby restaurant. You were disappointed with the
meal and wish to complain to the manager. Write a letter to the manager of the
restaurant.

In the letter:

 explain why you were at the restaurant

 describe the problems
 write about the action you want the manager to take

Dear Sir /Madam,

I am writing to raise my concern about the dish I was served in your restaurant on last Sunday. I am
Lattisha James, visited your restaurant on last Sunday for dinner with my family. I came there
because I did shopping at the Ansar mall, near to your restaurant, and I heard much about your
restaurant in the radio advertisement.

When we came there, we saw a special menu written on a board and kept in front of the restaurant
and name of that dish was Chettinadu fish curry. Therefore, we decided to taste that and we
ordered rice with this fish curry. When we got that food, we found chilli powder on the surface of
the fish and we enquired about that and one of your employees told they keep it off one hour after
marinating with chilli powder with some other ingredients. Even though we felt bad, our children
had it because they like fish curry. Unfortunately, my son had severe vomiting after we reach home
and admitted to hospital for one day.

I will appreciate you if you could have taken an action about this inconvenience we had due to the
food. Please instruct your chefs to follow a good hygienic manner and if they do not know to make
such kind of food please do not offer it to the customers because it will affect your prosperity and
our health.

I hope you will take this matter seriously and will take a proper action.

Yours sincerely,

Lettisha
Your neighbours have recently written to you to complain about the noise from
your house/ flat.

Write a letter to your neighbours. In your letter

 explain the reasons for the noise

 apologise
 describe what action you will take

Dear James,

I was very shocked to get your letter saying that the noise from my flat has been spoiling
your evenings and causing you some distress. I am really, really sorry about that. I had no
idea that you would be able to hear so much, so I hope you will accept my apologies.

As you may have guessed, I am trying to refit my kitchen in the evenings when I get home
from work. Unfortunately it is all getting longer than expected and I have been having
problems with getting things to fit properly. This has meant to a lot of banging and
hammering.

As the kitchen is still not finished, I have decided to call in a professional builder who will
finish the work in the next day or two. He’ll work only during daytime hours, so you won’t be
disturbed in the evenings again, I promise.

Sorry to have caused these problems,

Bill.
You have a full-time job and you are also doing a part-time evening course.

At night when I get home, I am too tired to even prepare a dinner for myself. Also I have no
time to study for this course.
I would like drop this course this quarter. Then take it again the next quarter. So, please
accept my situation.

Thank you for your cooperation

Sincerely
You and your family are living in rented accommodation in an English

furniture.

 say what action you would like the landlord to take

Dear Mr Smith,

I am your tenant from Flat 3 on Riverside Street. We met each other when I signed the rental
agreement in your office.

I have lived here for 6 months now and I am writing to complain about some of the furniture.
As you may remember, the dining table is in very poor condition and has uneven legs. It also
does not match the dining chairs as these are too low to be comfortable for a table of that
height. When I first pointed this out to you, you agreed to provide a brand new dining set.
However, you have not done so and I would really like to resolve this matter as soon as
possible.

If it is more convenient for you, perhaps you could simply replace the table by finding one of
a suitable height for the chairs. This would solve the problems without too much cost, so I
hope you agree to this proposed solution.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
