Description

Beginning on February 16th 2014, Oracle E-Business Suite patches for Release 12 (12.0 and higher) on the IBM AIX on
Power Systems platform will be built with a newer version of the IBM XL C/C++ compiler (version 11.1). IBM has announced
an end of Support date for the compiler version (XL C/C++ version 9) that is currently used for Release 12 builds and
patching.

Before applying any patches created after the February 16th 2014 date, all E-Business Suite customers running Release 12 on
this platform will be required to upgrade certain runtime and utilities (linker) versions in order to maintain their E-Business
Suite environments.

Note:
Customers can implement the upgrade of the linker and required their runtime fix patcks prior to this February 16th
2014 date - relinking of E-Business Suite executables will work using this linker for currently generated patches, as well
as all future patches built with the 11.1 version of the compiler.

The various R12 Installation and Upgrade Notes (IUN) for IBM AIX on Power Systems (My Oracle Support Document 402306.1
for 12.0, 761569.1 for 12.1, 1330703.1 for 12.2) have also been updated to reflect the new minimum requirements for the
currently supported AIX operating system versions (5.3, 6.1, 7.1). Users should review the IUN for this and all other
requirements of running E-Business Suite R12 on this platform.

Likelihood of Occurence
All E-Business Suite Release 12 (12.0 and higher) installations running on IBM AIX on Power Systems are affected by this
change.

Possible Symptoms
There may be linking errors or other incorrect results while running the E-Business Suite without these necessary updates to
the AIX operating systems and applying patches generated by Oracle after February 16th 2014.

Patches
There are two types of operating system filesets that need to be checked for compliance with the new requirements - the
runtime environment (xlC*.rte) and the utilities/tools fileset that contains the required linker linkxlC (vacpp.cmp.tools). The
versions of each of these packages can be checked with the command 'lslpp -l | grep -i < fileset name
>'.

For example, in order to see all filesets with xlC corresponding to the XL compiler related filesets, including runtime files
(xlC.rte) as documented below, users can run:

% lslpp -l | grep -i xlC

For runtime environment requirements specific to the versions of AIX, please review the sections pertaining to AIX 7.2, 7.1,
6.1, 5.3 and 5.2 below.

Utilities

The version of the XL Utilities package (xlcpp.util) currently certified for use with E-Business Suite R12 is 11.1 (11.1.0.11).
These utilities (mainly the linker linkxlC contained in the vacpp.cmp.tools fileset that's part of the utilities package) are
provided by IBM and are also included in the corresponding full versions of the compiler. A full version of the compiler is not
required for use with the E-Business Suite - only the linker linkxlC is.

Users should ensure that they have installed the 11.1 version of the XL Utilities package (xlcpp.util) from the IBM website:

and should review IBM's website for information pertaining to requied fixes or packages relevant to their version of AIX.

After installing the above, users can verify the version of the linker by running:

% lslpp -l | grep vacpp

Runtime Environment

All users must have a minimum runtime (xlC.rte) version of 12.1.0.2. If not, it can be downloaded from the following IBM
website:

Later AIX PTFs, Service Packs or Technology Levels that may be released which include versions 13.1 (or higher) of the
runtime environment are also supported as they are guaranteed to be compatible with code built on earlier versions of the
compiler.

AIX 7.2

The runtime environment (xlC.rte) that comes with the AIX 7.2 TL1 or higher (certified TL levels for EBS 12.1 and 12.2) is at
least version 13.1.2.0 of the runtime and is compatible with EBS.

AIX 7.1, AIX 6.1, AIX 5.3

The runtime environment (xlC.rte) that comes with the latest AIX Technology levels for these OSes must be ugpraded to
version 12.1.0.2 or higher with the AIX Fix Pack 2 (July 2013 PTF) or higher noted above.

AIX 5.2

AIX 5.2 has been de-supported by IBM and customers have been advised to move to later versions of AIX per IBM's stated
'End of Support' policy.

Customers who have opted for the limited fee-based extension for support on this operating system from IBM must comply
with the requirements to upgrade their operating system, runtime environment and Utilities fileset (to at least 11.1) to
continue to operate their E-Business Suite Release 12 environments.
