AM8 horizontal Y Axis upgrade

BOM

You will need these parts additionally to the printed ones, however you should have most of them
already on your AM8:

• 8x slot nut
• 8x screw for slot nut
• 4x M3x20 ISO 4762 for motor
• 4x M3 DIN 125 washer (optional, in case motor screws are too long to tighten motor)
• 1x 625 bearing (5x16x5mm)
• 1x M4x25 ISO 4762 screw
• 2x M4 DIN 934 nut
• 1x M3x20 ISO 4762 or ISO 7045 (you can also use a longer screw)
• 1x M3 DIN 934 nut
• 1x toothed Idler pulley T16
• 4x M4x12 ISO 4762 (you can also use a longer screws)

Assembly Instructions

1. First print all parts, preferably made from PETG or ABS:

• motor bracket
• motor bearing
• belt bracket for heatbed carrier (choose correct bore distance!)
• belt tensioner
• belt tensioner bracket

Note: Print the motor bearing bracket upside down and without supports. Open the screw holes
afterwards with a sharpie. These are closed to make printing without support easier.

2. Mount the motor bracket onto the frame, but don't tighten it completely yet. You will probably
need to move it later, so that the belt runs perfectly straight and isn't bent.

3. Assemble the belt tensioner. First, pressfit the M4 nut into the tensioner. Screw the M4x25 into
the pressfitted M4 nut, then screw the 2nd nut onto the end of the screw. This will help with force
distribution into the tensioner bracket and reduce the chance of breaking the tensioner bracket
through excessive tension force. Now slide the Tensioner into the tension bracket. Install the
toothed idler with the M3x20 screw and M3 nut afterwards. The tensioner is now complete.
Attach it onto the AM8 frame, but leave it a bit loose, like the motor bracket.

Finished tensioner assembly:

4. Choose the correct belt bracket for your h-plate and fit it with the four M4x12 screws. There are
various bore patterns available.

5. Pressfit the 625 bearing into the bearing bracket. Attach the motor (with pulley) and the bearing
bracket onto the motor bracket. Now make sure that your idler and motor pulley are level.
Adjust the pulley height if neccessary. Slide the motor against the aluminium frame and tighten
it.

6. Next, make sure that your belt runs straight and in parallel to the AM8 frame. If it doesn't, move
the tensioner and motor brackets a bit to the left or right. Tighten everything afterwards.

7. Congrats, you made it! Your AM8 should now be fully functional again. :)

The finished assembly should somewhat look like this:
