MY REFLECTION

“The beautiful about learning is that no one can take it away from you”, a line
that inspired me to engaged myself and gave great hope that this course would
somehow coat and arm me as good teacher in my own little way and will be my strong
wings to fly high and soar high in a school where I am assigned as Grade three teacher.
A desire to learn continuously through one’s lifetime is a mark of a 21 st century learner.
That, it would help me and guide me to do the best that I can be in providing good
education. As a 21st century teacher I am expected to be an instructional leader in my
school, who among other things, helps ensure that the school is safe and conducive
venue for learning. I am tasked to provide a safe and accepting learning environment
for my students and to create a school environment that respects, accepts, and
celebrates cultural diversity. In improving teaching and learning activities I have to
engaged the potential uses of the “four pillars of learning” because this will provide a
holistic framework on which to anchor enhancements in the teaching and learning
process to help learners reach their fullest potentials. Learning to know provides the
content and competencies needed by learners in the 21st century. Learning to live
together helps learner develop social skills and values such as respect and concern for
others, and appreciation of diversity among people. Learning to do helps prepare them
to become productive, working citizens after they leave the portals of the school. And
learning to be allows them to develop all aspects of their being body, mind, spirit.

A very enriching and unique learning strategies and experiences were imparted
to me through this course. This really gave me an idea that education can be
earned/gained and learned in so many ways productively. Learning was transmitted or
downloaded through the help of the modern technology. The class discussion was done
in chat room plus the submission of requirements through different rooms in the IFLEX.
In the Chat room of IFLEX there I experienced sharing of high intelligent ideas from my
co learners initiated by our brilliant mentor, a vibrant IFLEX tutor in person of Dr. Winnie
Batoon. The learning insights during the discussions, four (4) chat sessions helped me so
much to set myself and fastened my built to a task in which is a preparation to a more
realistic situations and real life experiences that actually be encountered in the field.
Module One, Equipping Teachers With Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes, And Values for the
21st Century help me take the first steps towards this goal by introducing me to KSAVs
essential for teachers in the 21st century. With this module I was able to realize and
ponder on what are my weaknesses and strength. I am now develop professional and
personal readiness as a 21st century teacher and I will be able to help my students
become 21st century-ready themselves. Equipping myself with the knowledge, skills,
attitudes and values (KSAVs) required of a 21st century teacher, which I can then pass on
to my students to help them face the challenges of the 21st century. Module 2 it gave
me an idea on how to become the 21st century teacher as subject matter expert, as a
facilitator of learning, and as a classroom manager. I am now develop and enhance my
facilitating skills to play my rule as teacher in the 21st century. I really learned a lot from
the sessions that empower and enlighten me in every decision and planning I will make
for my teaching and classroom improvement.
One of my realization from this course that “Lucky are those schools whose
teachers were given the chance to be part of Guro21 class in all batches for they will
really benefit the goods, the wonder and the high quality work of the teacher who are
the quality product of the course. The enhanced facilitating skills, the learned concept
and insights in is the strong arm to take bold steps in quality teaching and learning.

To be an agent of this change and innovation in transforming our classroom into

a better place for teaching and learning in which the teachers are responsible for
initiating and setting expectations and standards for the academic and social
development of all students and their performance, this course enlightened and
injected insight the importance of being a good moulder of the children.

Being one of the Guro21 learners, I am very grateful for giving me this great
chance and opportunity part of this batch 5 scholars. At first worries and anxiety were
felt before the course started for I am not so good in utilization this modern
communication gadgets/information technology. I really tried my best to cope with the
call and demands of this course. I was able to learn slowly and step by step the process
employed during our chat session. I was very happy that I was able to attend and
complete the four sessions through exploring and learning by doing in manipulating
information technology. There was really fun in learning and exchanging fruitful ideas
during our chat sessions for I gained learning not only in knowledge but also the skill in
manipulating modern technology. I encounter also difficulty in submitting my module
assignment but with openness to learn, I was able to accomplished the required reports.
I am very proud and grateful to say that through this course I gained trust and
confidence in myself that I can do it and aspire more to learn most especially in coping
with the demands of this modern times for the good services that I could extend to my
learners in the field.

This course imparted an integral development as teacher to anyone who will be

part of this program. This would shape me to be a better 21st century teacher as subject
matter expert, 21st century teacher as a facilitator of learning, 21st century as a
classroom manager. The four categories of teachers, namely formal authority,
demonstrator, facilitator, and delegator are now very clear to me and give me an idea
on how to practice them. It is very challenging job to work for. It requires competence
and dedication for children are expecting us. I believe that each child is a unique
individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and
mature emotionally. Preparing children for today’s worlds demands that education be
delivered in a vastly different manner than what we see today in different schools. In
this world where information creation and discovery are taking place faster than we can
bring that information to our classrooms.

I really appreciated the course for I believed many teachers will be benefitted of
the transformation brought by this program. I consider this course as producer and
moulder of teachers who will be integrally developed once they graduated from this
course-they will become a 21st century teacher. It is really an excellent course for it
really helped me a lot not only in knowledge but also my values and attitude towards
development of my learners need for the 21st century. Our tutor Dr. Winnie Batoon, is a
great mentor who initiated the session with challenging issues and brilliant ideas to be
shared in the group. And one of the line he shared last Aug. 14 that inspired me most
“Our enthusiasm is like a spark plug that radiates to people around us”.

I am very hopeful that this course will be transmitted and be shared to all the
teachers in the whole country so that many will be benefitted of the beauty, the goods
and wonders of this course and that all teachers in the Philippines will be better if not
the best in the whole world.
