SULFURIC ACID .

Oil oof vitriol H O S;mol wt 98.08. H 2.06% O 65.23% S 32.69% H2SO4. Prepd by
the ontact process according to the reaction 2SO2 +O2 2SO3 and SO3 + H2O -_-
H2SO4 ; by the chamber proceus according to the reaction 2NO + O2 _-_ 2NO2
and NO2 +SO2+H2O_-_- H2SO4 +NO .
Clear , colorless , odorless , oili liquid. Very corrosivel has a very freat affinity for
water , abstraction it from the air and also from many organic substances ;hence it
chars sugar , wood , etc . Misc with water and alcohol whith the generation of
much heat and with contraction in vol . When diluting the acid should be addes to
the diluent . Keep tightly closed
ACIDO SULFURICO.

,,, Líquido incoloro e inodoro Claro aceitoso. Muy corrosivel tiene una gran afinidad
por el agua, abstrayendo desde el aire y también de muchas sustancias orgánicas,
por lo carboniza de azúcar, madera, etc. Misc con agua y alcohol con la
generación de mucho calor y con la contracción en vol. Al diluir el ácido debe ser
Añadir en el diluyente. Mantener bien cerrado.
SODIUM HYDROXIDE
Fused solid with crystalline fracture , rapidly absorbs carbon dioxide and water
from the air, very corrosive (caustic) to animal and vegetable tissue and to
aluminium metal in the presence of moisture . Sold as lump sticks pellers , chips
etc. when kept in tight containers , the usual grades contain 97-98% NaOH .
Volumetric NaOH solns used in the laboratory must be protected from air to avoid
formation of carbonate . Concentrated NaOH solns dissolve practically no sodium
carbonate
HIDROXIDO DE SODIO
Fused sólido con fractura cristalina, absorbe rápidamente dióxido de carbono y
agua desde el aire, muy corrosivo (cáustica) al tejido animal y vegetal y para el
metal de aluminio en presencia de humedad. Se vende como bultos palos hélices,
patatas fritas, etc. cuando se mantienen en recipientes herméticos, los grados
habituales contienen 97-98% de NaOH volumétrica NaOH. Solns Consentratic
utilizados en el laboratorio deben ser protegidos de aire para evitar la formación de
carbonato. Solns concentrada de NaOH disolver prácticamente nada de carbonato
de sodio.

SODIUM CARBONATE
Anhydrous, Solvay soda. The technical grade (about 99%pure) is known as soda
ash. Odorless hygroscopic powder; alkaline taste ; d 2.53. On exposure to air it will
gradually absorb one mol water – about 15%. Sol in glycerol ; in 3.5 parts water at
room temp , 2.2 parts water at 35grados . Insol in alcohol . Dec by acids with
effervescence . Combines with water with evolution of heat . Its aq soln is strongly
alkaline . Ph 11.6. Keep well closed ,
PHENOLPHTHALEIN
C20H1404: mol wt 318.33. Frepd by condensing phenol with phthalic anhydride ;
Baeyer, Ann . 202, 69 (1880) .
Minute triclinic crystals , often twinned. color ;white or yellowish _ white , see also
yellow phennolphthalein . Sol in alcohol and ether , very slightly sol in chloroform.
One gram dissolves in 12 ml alcohol , in -100ml ether , Almost insol in water . Sol
in dil solns of alkali hydroxides and hot solns of alkali carbonates forming a red
soln .
USE : A 1%alcoholic soln as an indicador in titration of mineral and organic acid
and most alkalies . Not suitable for amonia .
FENOFTAFLEINA
C20H1404: peso molecular 318,33. Frepd por condensación de fenol con
anhídrido ftálico; Baeyer, Ann. 202, 69 (1880).
Cristales triclínicos minuto, a menudo hermanados. color, blanco o amarillento _
blanco, consulta phennolphthalein amarilla. Sol en alcohol y éter, SOL muy
ligeramente en cloroformo. Un gramo se disuelve en 12 ml de alcohol, en éter -
100ml, Casi INSOL en agua. Sol en solns dil de hidróxidos alcalinos y solns
calientes de carbonatos alcalinos formando una soln rojo.
USO: Un soln alcohólica 1% como un indicador en la titulación de mineral y ácido
orgánico y la mayoría de los álcalis. No es adecuado para amonia.
