I learned a lot of new skills in EDT 180 this semester. These are new skills and methods that can be used in

my personal and my professional life. There were many course objectives that I met for the class. These

are a few objectives that I accomplished this semester; 1) demonstrate an understanding of fundamental

programming concepts using block programming, 2) Locate, open, and use the following software

applications at an intermediate level, 3) Create and share Google based documents. Not only did I learn and

understand these computer skills I am able to approach future new computer-based tasks more easily with

greater confidence.

The first objective sounded complicated. The thought of programming can be intimidating, however I

learned of a type of programming called block programming. The assignment was very enjoyable. It was

like playing a video game rather than doing homework. The assignment broke down the concepts to basic

steps and then added the step to get to make more advanced steps. This assignment changed my attitude

and perception about programming. Programming breaks down the process to basic and simple steps. This

is a great way to face life and problems that seem too difficult. Look at what you have to do, then take

small steps to overcome the first or immediate issue. Continue on to the next issue or task. Eventually you

will be solving the entire problem.

I used to consider myself a computer literate person. However now that I have taken this class, I have

learned how to do so much more, like screen casting, creating a website, digital video, and digital photo

editing. I didn’t know as much as I thought I did. I truly can consider myself an intermediate computer

user. The funny thought is, that I would have rated myself an intermediate user before this course, but now

I know better. I watch YouTube and always wondered how screen casting was done. I use YouTube as a

resource for computer “How To” videos. Thanks to this class, I can now create and upload my own

screencasts to YouTube. I also learned what Pinterest was. I watched the screencast example from one of

the previous students a few times and now I have an idea of how Pinterest works.

The best part of this EDT 180 class, is that I learned how to use Google docs. It has been a wish for me to

learn how to use the Google Docs and Google Drive. This class has taught me to create forms, collect the

data and share the files with friends and family. This has inspired me to create a family directory with my

brothers and sisters, and their children so we can all keep in touch. This directory will be used to track cell

phone numbers, birthdays, and addresses. A directory like this will come in handy for invites for weddings,

graduations, and birthday parties. With the knowledge I learned in class I can give others read-only access

or designate a couple of others to have read-write access.

I am much more confident in skills that I learned in class. It was not that I am hesitant to try new things on

a computer, but I usually stick with what I know. This class showed me that there are many different ways

to present data and information. I enjoyed the Powtoon assignment. It is another tool that looks very

professional and wasn’t difficult to create. The website is an awesome archive of all my work this semester

that I can come back to and look at the different types of media that I could use to present information to a

customer, boss, family, or friends. This class was very enjoyable and I am a better and more capable person

for taking the class.
