AP Calculus BC

Homework: 2.7 - 2.8

Problem 1
(a) Let g = f − 1. If f (3) = 7, f (7) = −4, f 0 (3) = 10, and f 0 (7) = 8, what is
the value of g 0 (7)?
(b)Let f (x) = x3 + 2x − 7. What is the value of (f −1 )0 (5) if f (2) = 5?
(c) Let f (x) = e3x + 2x + 1. What is the value of (f −1 )0 (2) if f (0) = 2?

Problem 2
Find:
d d d
(a) sin−1 (x) (b) cos−1 (x) (c) tan−1 (x)
dx dx dx

Problem 3
Find:
d sin−1 (x) d d x
(a) (b) cos−1 (6x) (c) tan−1
dx x dx dx 5

Problem 4
Find the slope of the line tangent to tan−1 (e3x ) when x = 0

Problem 5
A snowman, whose body is a perfect sphere, is melting at a rate of 1f t3 /day.
At what rate is the radius of the snowman’s body changing when the body has
a diameter of 2f t?

Problem 6
Car A is 16 miles west of an interection traveling towards it at 35 mph. Car B
is 12 miles north of the same intersection traveling away from it at 30 mph. At
what rate is the distance between the cars changing?

Problem 7
An hour glass pours sand at a rate of 3in3 /sec. When the sand pours into the
bottom, a cone is formed such that the diameter is equal to the height. At what
rate is the height of the cone in the bottom of the hour glass increasing when
the sand pile is 2 inches tall?

Problem 8
Frank, who is 6 feet tall, is performing along a bare stage. There is a single
spotlight up 30 feet above the left wing of the stage and Frank is walking across
the stage from left to right at 3 feet/sec. When Frank is 10 feet from the left
edge of the stage, at what rate is Frank’s shadow length increasing?

Problem 9
The voltage V (volts), current I (amperes), and resistance R (ohms) of an
electric circuit are related by the equation V = IR. Suppose that V is increasing
at a rate of 1 volt/sec while I is decreasing at the rate of 31 amp/sec. Let t denote
time in sec. Find the rate at which R is changing when V = 12 volts and I = 2
amps.
