Intro to Music Education

 I promise as an educator to always keep my students safe first and foremost. I believe all

students have the right to learn in a safe environment where they feel comfortable to

be themselves and learn freely.

 I promise to always respect my students and despite race, gender, sexuality, etc. I

believe all students deserve a good education no matter the color of their skin, or how

they identify. I want each of my students to feel mutually respected and to respect me

in turn.

 I promise to do my best work everyday. I’m not perfect and I never will be, but I will try

my hardest to encourage my students and make sure that they learn valuable skills

while they are in my classroom.

 I promise to listen to my students and their ideas. I believe students are smarter and are

more capable then a lot of people give them credit for and I think they should come up

with their own ideas at times so they’re more engaged in class because they’re doing

something they want to do. I think students learn a lot when they contribute to their

own educations. I will also listen to any criticism my students have so if there’s

something I can do to improve myself and my teaching I may take it.

 I promise to expose my students to a large arrangement of music from many genres and

eras. I want my students to have knowledge in various musical genres and eras because

I think having that will make them become better musicians and appreciate music more.
 I promise to keep my class positive even on my worst of days. Students should not feel

bad coming to my class because I’m not in the best mood. I want my students to feel

happy and enjoy creating music in my classroom and even if I may be feeling down I

won’t allow it to affect how I teach my students.

 I promise to do my best to incorporate activities that any student in my class can

participate and enjoy. I want to make my lessons each day relevant for any student in

my class in some way so they learn important musical concepts each day.

 I promise to have patience with my students because I’m sure that I will make as many

mistakes as they are. I also believe it’s important to have patience because students will

like teachers who are willing to be patient and are more understanding.

 I promise to vary my lessons and music so students don’t feel like they’re experiencing

the same lesson or playing the same music all of the time
