 Fighting for Glory
Have you ever felt
like someone was able to
do more stuff because of
their race or religion? Well
back in the old days,
people weren’t really
allowed to pick their own
religion which means they
were assigned into one,
and if they didn’t like it
they would do nothing
about it which causes
chaos.
This relates to how
U.S Communities would
suffer without religious
diversity because all this
happened here in the U.S.
The intentions of
making this were to reach
out to all the blacks and
their religion and give
them the message of glory.
In this time period, the
Civil Rights Movement
was going on and to me, it
kind of relates to how U.S

thousands of nonviolent
demonstrators to walk to
Montgomery, Alabama to protest for
their voting rights.

 The Dark Path of Race
Michael Guarino
Race can affect
community in many different
ways. Some of the ways include
health, money and more.
According to American
Progress “Children of color
who live in urban areas are at
the highest risk for lead
poisoning caused by lead-based
paint.” This quote relates back
to money and health because
they cannot afford non
lead-based paint which using
lead-based paint is unhealthy.
Communities of color are also
more likely to be closer to
highly polluted areas like
landfills and coal plants. Health
of colored communities is
usually worse than white
communities. According to a
study, the least healthy water
was in mostly Latino or below
poverty line.
Even in disasters such
as a tornado or an earthquake
city officials will most likely
support and start rebuilding
higher income white
communities than not.
According to American
Progress “Even with the
restrictions on lead paint usage,
children of color who live in
low-income communities
continue to suffer the most.
For example, a 2004
report revealed that African
American children and Hispanic
children in Chicago were 12
times and 5 times more likely to
be poisoned, respectively, than
white children.” Also “The
Bronx, New York, found that
individuals who lived close to
noxious industrial facilities and
waste sites were 66 percent
more likely to be hospitalized
for asthma. Significantly, these
same individuals were 13
percent more likely to be people
of color.”
This shows that health
of communities of color is
worse than white communities.
Diversity is good for
communities because in many
cases it causes people to be
more friendly and caring. “In
two studies, we found that
imagining living in a diverse
neighbourhood expanded
people’s identities, which in
turn made them more willing to
help a stranger.” This is a good
thing because overall there will
be more positivity and
friendliness around the
community.
In conclusion
communities of color suffering
from bad health conditions and
wealth conditions.

You’ve probably heard
the song Prayer of The Refugee
by Rise Against, but I doubt you
ever noticed what it’s truly
about. This piece is about the
abuse American companies put
on foreign workers and child
labors. In 2007, this song
peaked on the weekly billboard
charts in 7th place.
This relates to my
thesis of U.S. Communities
would suffer without diversity
because with refugees and
foreign Americans there would
be increased diversity in the
community.
The writer’s intentions of this
piece were to bring attention
and bring to the foreground the
abuse of foreign workers. I
know this because during the
music video it shows a product
and flashbacks to where it came
from and it pans around to show
a foreign worker or a child.

work is at the time when this
