Proposal Statements
LLS
I intend to have my internship with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) as part
of my leadership learning because it will allow to me enhance upon my abilities as a leader and a
servant. The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma,
and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. At my site, Carla is the area director
for the Rhode Island chapter of LLS and is in charge of advocating for the organization and
managing annual campaigns. Campaigns such as Man Woman of the Year and Student of the
Year that raise funds for cancer research and awareness for the organization. Overall, with this
organization I want to accomplish a my goal of managing an event that will help spread
awareness and raise funds for cancer research.
Learning outcomes that I would like to meet as a result of this experience are as follows:
I will be able to demonstrate the ability to organize meetings and set agendas. I will be able
demonstrate the ability to work with and in collaboratives / coalitions. I will be able to
demonstrate how to successfully plan and run a fundraising event. I will be able to demonstrate
how to advocate raise awareness for a non-profit organization.
Some tasks that I will be completing and skills I intend to gain during my internship at
LLS are how to plan and execute a successful fundraising event, how to manage and schedule
my time, how to work with an organization to accomplish goals, and how to effectively spread
awareness and advocate for an organization. I will be planning my own fundraising event with
the organization in an effort to raise funds for cancer research and spread awareness about LLS.
My internship with LLS will specifically link to curriculum areas within the minor for
leadership studies by allowing me to achieve outcomes within the Leadership Outcomes
Inventory. Through this internship I will gain interpersonal and organizational concepts and
skills such as knowledge on how to organize meetings and set agendas; and knowledge on how
to work with collaboratives and coalitions. I will also learn tools on how to lead myself such as
time management, perseverance, and organization.
Westerly Health Center
I intend to have my internship at Westerly Healthcare Center as part of my leadership
learning because it will allow to me enhance upon my abilities as an aspiring nurse and a servant
leader. The Westerly Health Center is a facility that treats patients in long-term care,
rehabilitation, and specialized dementia care. At my site, Jan is the clinical instructor for student
nurses and is in charge of preparing students to perform the best care for the patients. Overall,
with Jan at Westerly Health Center I plan to accomplish my goal of learning and performing
skills that will help prepare me for my future as a nurse and treat patients to the best of my
ability.
Learning outcomes that I would like to meet as a result of this experience are as follows:
I will be able to apply nursing skills and concepts in the clinical setting. I will be able identify
problems, evaluate problem-solving strategies, and develop strategic solutions. I will be able to
demonstrate proper technique of skills learned in the clinical setting. I will be able to characterize
and identify patient issues and implement a proper care plan.
Some tasks that I will be completing and skills I intend to gain during my internship at
Westerly Health Canter are how to perform basic nursing skills that will help me treat my
patients and how to identify patient problems and find solutions to solve them. I will be in charge
of my own patients and be responsible for providing the proper treatments for them. I will also
be tasked with learning the proper skills and techniques that will be vital for me as a student
nurse.
My internship with LLS will specifically link to curriculum areas within the minor for
leadership studies by allowing me to achieve outcomes within the Leadership Outcomes
Inventory. Through this internship I will gain self-leadership outcomes such as servant
leadership, as well as the ability to lead myself through time management and self-discipline. I
will also be able to broaden my own perspectives and understand others by treating patients of all
backgrounds and treat them based on their personal needs.
