INTERNATIONAL BLADDER
CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
The month of May is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month. We remember all
those who have lost their fight with this disease, and it is also a time when
bladder cancer patient organisations stand together to fight for those currently
undergoing treatment and everyone who is affected by bladder cancer.
Building upon the successful past collaborations, the members of the World Bladder
Cancer Patient Coalition are working together to raise bladder cancer awareness across
the globe.

Action Bladder Cancer UK
Action Bladder Cancer UK was set up in 2009 by a group of
urologists and patients who were committed to improving
outcomes for bladder cancer patients. Their concern was the
low profile of such a common cancer and the lack of both
awareness (amongst the public and health professionals) and
critical research funding. In its formative years, the charity
established itself as a source of information on bladder
cancer for patients and professionals, contributed to a range
of consultations and publications and worked to publicise
and help establish patient support groups.
Informed by this wealth of expertise the charity has created Working to improve patient support through:

goals and ideals, of National Bladder Cancer Awareness Month’. Both
resolutions call ‘on the people of the United States, interested groups,
and affected persons to:
1 promote awareness of bladder cancer and to foster understanding
of the impact of the disease on patients and their families and
care-givers, and
2 take an active role in the fight to end bladder cancer.’
