Heroic stereotypes

During time we all have heard about how a heroic hero had to be strong and, men was the
first thing that popped into our heads. For Antigone, Susan, and, Carrie that wasn’t the case.
These 3 women believed what they believed in despite being a women. They went over their
government they didn’t care if they had to die. They also broke the stereotype “rule”,because if
you were a women you were thought as being weak. As Antigone is shown in the play she is not
afraid to speak in what she believes in just like Susan and Carrie.
Antigone stood up for what she believed in. she believed that her brother Polynises
should be buried like her other brother Eteocles. ”Creon buried our brothers Eteocles with
military honors, gave him a soldiers funeral… no one shall burry him, no one mourn for him, but
his body must lie in the fields, a sweet treasure for carrion birds to feed as they search for food”
(970). This quote proves that Antigone didn’t like the fact that her brother Polynesis wasn’t
getting the same funeral like her other brother despite them two being brothers. ”There it is, and
now you can prove what you are; a true sister, or a traitor to your brother” (970). Antigone says
that she is a good sister and doesn’t care if she gets called a traitor. Overall, she isn’t scared to be
thrown in jail. She only cares is for her brother Polynesis to have the same funeral like Eteocles.
Susan and Carrie they went against their government. According to the quote”…a
condition in which grants a representation to the taxes in half of its territory and denies it in the
other half a condition in which permits woman in some states to share in the election of the
president, senator, and house of representatives and denies them that privileged in others”(2).
This means she wanted any women to vote to have the same voice as men when electing for
president etc. “It shall be my work this evening to prove to you that thus of voting, I not only
committed no crime, but instead simply exercised my citizen rights”(women’s right to
suffrage,1873). Overall, despite being a female Susan and Carrie wanted to have the rights as
men and to not be treated less or more than a man.
As women you were looked as a weak person. These three woman have shown otherwise
according to Antigone. ”There is no guilt in reverence for the dead”(984). She wasn’t scared to
prove her point “it is an odious aristocracy; a hateful originally of sex. The most hateful
aristocracy ever established on the face of the globe; anarllgrch of wealth, were the rights govern
the poor” (Susan). She was going to prove that despite being a girl she was going to break the
“rule” as a stereotype “… the leadership of the united states in the world democracy completes
the unfemished of own women” (Carrie). In conclusion, these women broke the stereotype that
men had on women as weak.
As a women, you were taught to stay quite clean, cook, and do girly things.
Women didn’t have the same rights as men did, so these women spoke out. They spoke out on
what they believed was the right thing. Carrie was the one who did the woman’s rights
movement she wanted for women to be stopped getting treated so poorly. Susan she wanted
women to vote to be a part of who and who didn’t become president etc. Antigone, Susan, and
Carrie they all want women to have a voice and to hear of, not be made fun of.
