Brasília, which succeeded Rio de Janeiro as Brazil's capital in 1960, was built in

less than 3 years and can easily be called the exemple of modern architecture. Because it
was planned and constructed as a whole piece, it doesn't have the mix of commercial, re-
sidential, tourist atractions and government functions that happens when a city grows over
time, these are all strictly divided. If you look at Brasilia from high above, you will see the
city’s shape reminds of an airplane. Some people say it looks like a bow with a tight feat-
her. The city is beautiful and has interesting atractions for all kinds of taste: it has, for
exemple, religious, natural and historical places to see.

If you want to see religious places, there’s a few interesting places that I highly
recomend, for exemple, Sanctuary of Dom Bosco; the church of São João Bosco is dedi-
cated to the 19th-century Italian priest canonized in 1934. It has 40 tall pointed arches that
frame tall windows of stained glass in multiple shades of blue. The windows make up most
of the walls, and an enormous chandelier is made of more than 7,000 pieces of glass. You
can also visit the Cathedral of Brasilia, an architectural masterpiece by Oscar Niemeyer. It
promises to captivate you with its 16 concrete columns, which resembles hands reaching
out to heaven and you will definitely be astounded by not only the stained glass roof, but
also the sculptures of three flying angels. Furthermore, the Temple of the Good Will is ano-
ther incredible place to go. Known as the Temple of Peace, it is a mystical and spiritual
icon. Its doors are open day and night to serve the needs of its visitors searching for a pla-
ce to pray or meditate freely. It has at least 12 main rooms that combine spirituality, cultu-
re, art, ecology, and mysticism.
Nature lovers will enjoy the Brasília National Park, in the northwest part of the
city, protecting a number of different environments, including the low and crooked trees of
the cerrado, a rich and varied fauna, with innumerable species of birds, wild pigs, giant ar-
madillos, capybaras, pampas deer. Another highlight of the park is the natural pools, all of
which are believed to have therapeutic waters. They will also enjoy the Botanical Garden,
a unique nature reserve, where in addition to rare plants you can see animals and birds.
Unfortunetely, a free visit offers only 1/10 of its area. Many different types of orchid can be
seen at the Margaret Mee Orchidarium. A recreation of the Kyoto Forest was constructed
in the park, based on the famous Kyoto Protocol, as a symbolic commitment to the preser-
vation of nature. Another place is the City Park, located in the center of Brasilia, is known
as the largest urban park in the world. There is a 10 km track for pedestrians that go
around the entire park, a Kart racing, a amusement park, a very relaxing ambient perfect
to have picnic.
Juscelino Kubitschek Memorial is located nearly the city park of Brasília and is
dedicated to the founder and first president of the capital city of Brazil, Juscelino Kubits-
chek. Along with Kubitschek's tomb and a museum devoted to him, the monument con-
tains interesting exhibits on the city, including early plans, construction photography, and
other materials that illustrate Brasilia's history. There is also the Museum of Indigenous
People, that collect the native Brazilian art and artifacts that not only records pre-colonial
native culture but celebrates the living traditions of Brazil's indigenous peoples today. It
has beautiful artworks created by indigenous artists, historical and present-day imple-
ments, such as pottery, baskets, weapons, paddles, feather headdresses. The museum
have a collection considered one of the best in South America.
Finally, It doesn’t matter if you are a devotee person, a nature admirer or if
you’re passionate about history, maybe you’re just curious about all those things, in Brasi-
lia you can always find some places that you’re gonna like. Possibly because I’m from he-
re, but I’m sure the city is really unique, including the people here.
