Assignment Title: End of Unit Assessment Q1: Argumentative Essay

Student Writing Goal: I would like to receive nothing less than an 85 on my essays and other writing assignment. I
hope to meet and exceed the rubric expectation.

Instructions:
1) Re-read the paper (and teacher feedback).
2) Complete this reflection sheet.

What was the purpose of this writing assignment?

The purpose of this writing assignment was to argue my stance on a social issue that exists today. My topic of
choice was legalizing marijuana. I argued the affirmative, in favor of legalization. I had to be able to present
my argument effectively, provide evidence, and warrant. We went beyond our arguments by presenting
counter claims and a rebuttal. We had to be able to meet these general requirements in order to write the
seven-paragraph essay.

How did you perform in relation to the expectations of the writing rubric?
I performed extremely well in relations to the expectations of the writing rubric. I received a better than
expected score on the assignment, meaning that I met the expectations on the rubric. I was able to achieve
this score by providing substantial evidence with enough substance to bring relevance to each claim and
quote.

What aspect of this piece did you do well? (give example/quotes to support claims)
I did well on many aspects of this piece. One aspect that was executed well was my warrant and evidence to
support the quotes. Each quote presented was explained in depth and I explained how it tied back to the main
topic of my essay. Everything written was written with relevance. I did not seem to stray away from the topic.
Because of this, my paper maintained a great tone and flow.

Why have you/haven’t you chosen to revise this writing assignment?

There were not many revisions to make on this essay, but I chose to add more information. In order to make
the paper better, I clarified a few points further. Although I feel that my paper is well-written, I want to make
sure that it is written to its best potential. I want a paper no less than perfect. Making a few changes now will
help me when expanding the essay for the portfolio.

What will you do better in your next writing assignment, and how will I do it?
Something that I would like to do better on my next writing assignment is write sentences with more complex
structures. Instead of writing simpler sentences, I want to write better structured sentences in order to
maintain formality throughout my papers. Other than that, I feel that I write well. I will continue to write my
essays by looking at the rubrics to ensure I meet the requirements the first time, so that it less work for me
later.

To what degree of success did you achieve your previously stated goal(s)?
I achieved a great degree of success in accordance to my goal. My goal was to receive at least an 80 on my
assignment, but I received a 95. My other goal was to meet or exceed the rubric expectations, and that is
exactly what I did. I can confidently say that I achieved my goal. This is because I put great effort forth and
made sure that I did well the first time when doing this assignment.
