 Right click on the google file
 Save as Kml
 Save to desired folder
How to convert Kml File to Shapefile
using Global Mapper?
 Open Global Mapper 13
 Click File
 Click “Batch Convert/Reproject
 Select File Type
 From KML to Shapefile
 Click OK
 Add Files
 Browse Saved Kml then Open
 Reproject the File
 Change projection to UTM
 Change Zone to 51N
 Change Datum to WGS84
 Click “OK”
How to Add Shapefile in Arcview 3.2?
 Open ArcView 3.2
 Select with a new View
 Click “OK” then “YES”
 Browse Shapefile from Folder
 Click the Shapefile then “OK”
 Open the drawing by checking the box
 Add more desired shapefiles (base map)
 Click on the shapefile then “OK”

Note: Make
sure that all
shapefiles have
the same
projection!
How to compute Area/Length ?
 Click on the Shapefile
 Open theme table
 Click “File”
 Click Extensions……..
 Browse and check on “Xtools 6/1/01”
 Click “OK”
 Change defaults
 Change map units to meters and
hectares
 Save defaults then “OK”
 “Close”
 Click on “Xtools”
 Click Calculate Area……..
 Just do same process on your polygons
How to Add data/attribute of a shapefile?
Open theme table button

 Open theme table of the shapefile


 Click “Table”
 Click “Start Editing”
 Click “Edit”
 Click “Add Field”
 Rename the Field Definition
 Change “Type” to Number if the
record will be numbers and String
if you will be recording words
 Change width to 50
 Click OK
Edit
 Click “Edit” Button
 Type Desired Records then
ENTER
 Input all records
 You can also add other
field…just follow the same
process
 Save or “Control S”
How to Create new Shapefiles?
 Click “View”
 Select “New Theme”
 Select if Point, Line or Polygon
 Browse folder and Rename the
shapefile
 Click OK
 Highlight on the shapefile
 Click on the “Draw” button
 Select “Draw Polygon”
 You are ready to DRAW
 Save if finished
 Open theme table to compute for
the area
 Open Xtools
 Calculate area………
How to Plot coordinates using MS Excel?
 Open MS Excel then
encode coordinates taken
from your GPS
 Save as “Text (Tab
delimited)” on your folder
 Save………..
 Open your ArcView 3.2
 Exit then click on Table
 Click and then Browse your
“Text” file
 Click “OK”
 Click OK then Exit
Exit
 Click View then open
 Click “View” in the menu
 Select Add Event Theme
 Browse the file at the table
 Change X Field to Easting
 Change Y Field to Northing
 Click OK
 Check the shapefile
 Click on Xtools then Make Polygon
 Make one polygon from points
 Click OK
 Browse folder then rename the
shapefile
 Click OK
 Check on the shapefile
 Open theme table to compute area
 Use Xtools….compute area
