 Accord Policy on Ethics and Conduct

In the first group they talked about an architect’s general obligation, their
obligations in the public interest, obligations to the client, and the obligations in the
interest of the profession which only shows how multifaceted an architect can be.
Architects design residential and commercial structures, of course, but their
responsibilities don't stop there. An architect as a professional individual, address
responsibilities to the public, to clients and users of architecture, to the building
industries and to the art and science of architecture itself.

Being a good architect who follows their obligations as a prudent professional

individual will greatly contribute to the success of the economy of the country they are
in. An interwoven relationship exists between man-made architectural icon and the
beautiful specter of a natural environment which can be visually attractive and inviting to
patrons and tourists. Today tourism is one of the largest and highly dynamic sectors of
external economic activities. Its high growth and development rates, considerable
volumes of foreign currency inflows, infrastructure development, and introduction of new
management and educational experience actively affect various sectors of economy.
These positively and monumentally contribute to the social and economic development
of nations across the world.

Highly developed economies such as America and Japan have accumulated a

big deal of their social and economic welfare on profits from tourism. According to my
research, tourism provides about 10% of the world’s income and employs almost one
tenth of the world’s workforce. All considered, tourism’s actual and potential economic
impact is astounding. All of these will eventually happen if all the architects in the
country sets their service to the standards of professionalism in architectural practice
policy on ethics and conduct.

Architects greatly contribute to the social progress of any country they wish to
practice their profession. They build development centers which greatly impacts the
people who utilize the structure and the services it offers and also the people in close
proximity to it. They build health centers to enhance the lives of the citizen of the
country. They build government centers for rulers to execute their power and stir the
nation to greater prosperity. There are still so many things that an architect contributes
to social progress. If an architect is well equipped with appropriate ethics and conduct,
he can build bridges to connect the gaps of an imperfect country and suffice the needs
of every individual thru architecture. Good architecture should meet the basic human
needs of its citizens, establish the building blocks that allow communities to enhance
and sustain the quality of their lives, and create the conditions for all individuals to reach
their full potential.
 APEC ARCHITECTS’ OPERATIONS MANUAL

Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation is an international forum composed of twenty

one member economies with the objective to act collectively to promote economic and
technical cooperation within Asia-Pacific region. With its purpose “to sustain the growth
and development of the region for the common good of its people”, this manual sets out
the organizational structure of the APEC Architect framework and the rules and criteria
that underpin its operation.

An APEC Architect is a person who is registered, licensed or otherwise

professionally recognized as an architect in a participating economy, and whose name
is enrolled on a section of the APEC Architect Register maintained by that economy.

Being affiliated to APEC, you get lesser barriers in practicing architecture to any
of the affiliated countries. This means faster and more efficient transaction between a
domestic architect and a foreign client. This could lead to a huge boom in the
architectural industry in a local or international scale with greater platform for the
exchange of design ideas and philosophies which could resolve disputes between one
country and another. An economic growth could be experienced since an APEC
architect has a security to their career and has the freedom to practice his or her
profession locally or internationally – more job, more income for the people, more
infrastructure to be built to cater these growing population of working individuals, means
more tax for the national government.

A barrier-less profession means greater communication between professionals

and more free flowing ideas could transfer from country to country which could affect
and influence the professional individual themselves or to the people of the country they
are working in. This will create awareness to the social society making them learn more
about the culture and ways of life of people from other regions of the world.
 ASEANS ARCHITECT OPERATIONS MANUAL

Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional intergovernmental

organization comprising ten countries in Southeast Asia, which promotes
intergovernmental cooperation and facilitates economic, political, security, military,
educational, and sociocultural integration among its members and other countries in
Asia. It also regularly engages other countries in the Asia-pacific region and beyond.

The Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) on Architectural Services will

facilitate the mobility of architectural professionals within ASEAN and enhance
information exchange in order to promote adoption of best practices on standards of
architectural education, professional practices and qualifications.

The main objective for the agreement is to conform to the spirit of ASEAN co-
operations based on fair distribution of resources and benefits through collaborative
research and set standards and commitment of technological transfer in architecture
among ASEAN Member Countries. Through this affiliation, an architect will be able to
hone his skills more to the standards of his chosen profession and gain more
knowledge and experience through interacting with local and foreign architects.

In an economic perspective, an architect who can practice both in local and

international gives him better chance of succeeding financially in life. Multiply it to the
registered ASEAN architect of the country, they can provide knowledge on how to stir
an economy to greater prosperity by coming up with sustainable and carefully planned
architectural ideas which can also benefit the society and improve the quality of living
for all the people from different walks of life.
 SUPPLEMENTAL SERVICES OF THE ARCHITECT

Architects are not just involved in the design of a building. As a licensed

professional they are also responsible for public safety and overseeing of projects. Their
role is important in every stage of the building's construction, from the initial concept to
the opening ceremony when the building is complete. Beyond completion, an architect
often remains involved in a project as buildings evolve to incorporate new surroundings
and ideas.

In the design role, an architect is hired by a client to produce detailed designs of

a concept or idea that the client wants to bring to reality. As well as needing creative
design ideas, this part of the role involves a great deal of technical knowledge and
responsibility. There is a need to comply with building and safety regulations, local
planning regulations and restrictions. Depending on the project, there may be laws
surrounding the preservation of the local environment or any historic parts of a building.
Regular client meetings are important to establish requirements and discuss detailed
design proposals. Also important is heading up the team of professionals who will work
on this stage of the project including engineers, designers and financiers.

These services are offered to the client to realize their vision and give them basic
knowledge on the legal ways of constructing a house or any structure. It is the
foundation of a continuing critical process which made the greatest buildings that is
visible today. These buildings could generate tourism and provide income for the
residents of which would greatly help the economy of the area.

The way architects design their own structure are often infused with the culture
that they have. When a foreign architect practice his profession in a different country, he
showcase design solutio This accentuates the individualism and localism of the
designer and his or her designed structure which can be made as a statement or pride
of the region.
