Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Engagement: This review activity using Kahoot! provides the students with multiple means of engagement.
This lesson optimize individual choice by offering different formats to have students work individually, with
pairs or in small groups. Students also have the option to play the game anonymously, so they feel secure
when participating in the review game. The game can be set up to use point or not creating a competitive
game or just to review. This technology also provides immediate feedback so the students are able to self-
reflect and understand their mistakes.

Representation: Kahoot! provides multiple means of representation by using visuals, pictures or links with
each question. You can also read aloud each question to your students. When using Kahoot! as a review you
are activating the students background knowledge to answer what they know in a competitive format.

Action and Expression: Students are able to use various technologies for this activity including tablets,
laptops, or smartphones. The teacher may also allow students to use peers, scratch paper, notes and class
resources to help answer the questions.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.

Prior to the Kahoot! activity, the class would have spend a few days studying about the historical figure,
Theodore Roosevelt. The students would have previously created a group project demonstrating their
knowledge of his life and contributions to American history. This activity will be used as a review prior to a
quiz to check for student understanding.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
X Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) X To illuminate common
misconceptions X Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and mastery
for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge X Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Prior to starting the activity, the teacher will review how to use Kahoot!. The students are already familiar
with Kahoot! but a short review will be helpful to all students.
The students will be told there will be a prize for the top five students/pairs! Students will have the choice to
work with a partner and submit their names anonymously, if they wish. The questions will allow 20 seconds
to answer. The teacher will read the question as soon as it appears on the screen to support students who are
struggling readers or English learners.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

X Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

X Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
X Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
The students will be aware of the correct answer after each question is asked and answered within the 20
second time period. I will also go over the answers after the entire activity is completed.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

After the activity is completed and the top five winners are determined I will review each question with the
students, asking for any questions they may have. If any questions or misconceptions are stated during this
time, we will discuss them as a class.

How will the data be used?

This activity will be used as a formative assessment. The teacher will use the data to determine the level of
student understanding prior to their quiz. The class will be able to see how each student/pair did during the
activity, but again the students have the option to use their real names or create a name and be anonymous.
Depending on the data results, the teacher can decide if more review needs to be implemented or to discuss
misconceptions about the information.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

My personal learning goal for the students is to apply the information they have learned about Theodore
Roosevelt to an fun, engaging activity. I hope to learn from this activity how well the students remember key
facts and concepts about Theodore Roosevelt. I hope this activity gives the students a fun way to practice and
demonstrate their understanding.
Reflective Practice:

The Kahoot! activity gives students a fun and engaging way to show how much they know about a subject.
Creating a competitive game that students are able to interact with each other will promote student learning
in a way that is meaningful to understanding the content and any misconceptions they may have had. To
extend the lesson, students could work in small groups and come up with additional questions about
Theodore Roosevelt they think is interesting and ask the rest of the class. The teacher could even decide to
use one question from each group on the test to involve students in the process.
