Industrialization Social Action Paper

For this assignment you will be writing a social action paper describing how the

current working conditions in the garment industry can be compared to the working

conditions seen in 1906 (When The Jungle was published). The theme of this essay is to

write to the workers in the garment industry and tell them how their issues are similar and

different than the working conditions seen in 1906. You can choose to argue whether the

two different experiences are more similar or if they are more different. If you choose

that they are more similar you will write two paragraphs on similarities and one of

differences, and if you choose that they are more different you will write two paragraphs

on differences and one on similarity. You will also write one paragraph describing what

actions have been taken in the past and how this can apply to their situation. We will have

two full days to work on this in class. The first class session will involve writing your thesis

and ideas on a discussion board. Each student will respond to the student who is

alphabetically placed in front of them and behind them (class numbers), and provide

relevant feedback in a productive way. The next class will be spent working on the full

paper, which will also be posted in a discussion post for all students to see. The point of

this assignment is to work on a public writing piece that involves feedback and revolves

around relating historical content to a current issue.
