Course Description:
Students will continue developing technical elements such as: correct posture, and proper hands position. Students will be introduced to
new technical and musical challenges. The students will learn about the pianist development during the early musical periods (Baroque
16001750, Classical 17501820), as well as popular LatinAmerican music styles and composers.
Subjects to be covered:
Major and relatives minor scales (Two Octaves, both hands)
Arpeggios (Two Octaves, both hands), Major and Minor Chords with inversions.
Musical terminology. (Tempo, Articulations, Staccato, Legato and Portato, Dynamic)
Introduction and analysis of phrasing.
Execution of Intermediate pieces from the pianistic repertoire.
Preparation for Recital.

Week 1 Warm up, C and G Major Scales. Introduction to musical
terms and vocabulary. (Flats, Chords, Inversions,
Arpeggios) Read new piece, separated hands. Assignments:
Practice arpeggios in C Major, separated hands. Practice the
new piece from the book.
Week 2 Review assignments. Warm up, D Major and relative minor
scale, separated hands. Playing the new piece (both hands).
Vocabulary: (Phrase, musical form, half steps, whole steps,
and tempo) Rhythm exercises. Assignments: C, G and D
Major Scales and relatives minor. Practice the piece.
Week 3 Review assignments. Warm up arpeggios in C and G
Major. Work musically with the learned piece. Read a new
piece, separated hands. Ear training. Vocabulary: Dynamic
(mf, p, mp, f, pp) Ritard (Gradual slowing up of tempo)
Music theory. Assignments: Practice the songs. C, D and G
Major Scales and relatives minor.
Week 4 Review assignments. Warm up with arpeggios in D Major.
Work musically with the learned piece. Playing new piece,
both hands. Rhythm exercises. Vocabulary: Articulations
(Staccato, Portato, Legato) Chords and inversions.
Phrasing. Practice “Phrasing in twos”, first each hand
separately. Music theory. Assignments: Practice new piece.
Week 5
Review assignments. Warm up, with arpeggios in C, D, and G Major. Work musically with the
learned pieces. A Major Scale and relative minor. Ear training. Working with correct posture and
fingering.
Vocabulary: Musical period: Baroque. Listen to music
from the baroque period. Assignments: Do an online
research about most relevant composers and works, from
this period. (16001750)
Week 6 Review assignments. Warm up, A Major Scales, both hands
(two octaves) Playing “Phrasing in twos”, both hands.
Rhythm exercises. Read new piece, separated hands. Ear
training. Working with correct posture and fingering.
Assignments: Practice the new piece. A Major and relative
minor Scale.
Week 7
Review assignments. Warm up, chords with inversions. E Major and relative minor Scale. Work musically with the learned
pieces. Working with correct posture and fingering. Ear training. Vocabulary: Musical period: Classical (1750-1820) Listen to music from
the classical period. Select a Recital Piece, according to the student ability. Assignments: Practice all pieces, and all
scales.
Week 8 Review assignments. Warm up, arpeggios. Vocabulary:
Phrasing in fours. Introduction and analysis of phrasing.
Rhythm exercises. Work musically with the learned pieces.
Working with correct posture and fingering.
Assignments: Do an online research about most relevant
composer and works, from classical period. (17501820)
Week 9 Review assignments. Warm up, B Major, and relative
minor Scale. Work musically with the learned pieces.
Working with correct posture and fingering. Read new
piece, separated hands. LatinAmerican music styles and
composers. Read new Etude, separated hands.
Assignments: Practice all pieces and all scales.
Week 10 Review assignments. Warm up, F Major and relative minor
scale. Arpeggios, separated hands. Work musically with the
learned pieces. Working with correct posture and fingering.
Playing new Etude, both hands. Ear training. Rhythm
exercises. Assignments: Do an online research about Latin
American music styles. Practice the recital piece and New
Etude, both hands.
Week 11 Review assignments. Warm up, chords and inversion, both
hands. Arpeggios and scales, both hands. Work musically
with the learned pieces. Working with correct posture and
fingering. Preparation for Recital. Assignments: Practice
scales, arpeggios. Recital piece.
Week 12 Review assignments. Warm up, scales. (C, D, G and E
Major, two octaves, both hands) Work musically with the
learned pieces. Working with correct posture and fingering.
F Major and relative minor Scale, two octaves. Preparation
for Recital. Ear training. Assignments: Practice the pieces
and all scales.
Week 13 Practice. The Recital Piece.
