Spring Reflection

As I approached the spring semester with certainty in my writing in compositional English,

I quickly realized this semester was going to be busier than that last. Writing has never been a

passion I enjoyed but the professor teaching makes a world of difference when you dislike a

subject. Professor Moore helped walk her students through each assignment with such ease and

understanding. Peer reviews from classmates and conferences assured me that the work I was

putting in was not just gibberish and I was in the same boat as everyone else in the class who had

no idea what they were supposed to do. The class wrote many short academic responses, which

we did two back to back, multiple major essays, and one big project I took a passion in doing.

Coming to the end of the semester I left compositional English with such high confidence, my

future in college and in my career with writing any paper or doing another project is going to be

successful.

My peers and I were immediately placed together in a quick assignment that helped group us and

turn peers into friends. The moon landing assignment helped each student use their critical

thinking skills and see how well our groups worked well together. Any assignment given for the

rest of the semester, the group helped give insight with writing a paper effectively. The short

academic assignments were each different in their own way, but the assignments helped

construct our writing skills for the better and was able to use critical thinking in our writing. The

first major essay assigned was the Rhetorical Analysis. Compositional English 1301 prepped the

class already by using visual analysis, with this essay for English 1302 we had to analyze,

evaluate, and identify a speech from an individual that impacted the world. This major essay was

easier for me as the speech I choose was given by President George W. Bush after September 11,

2001. The next major assignment given was to be “The Teacher for the Day”. This assignment

was a group project and a presentation was required to teach the class about a certain subject.

Grammar and proofreading was the subject for my group and it was a nice refresher course for

myself and the class. The presentation became the first of many throughout the semester. The

next major essay due was the casual proposal. This assignment required extensive research and

became a topic I find true passion in. I chose the topic of vaccinations, and I was required to

convince social media creators to filter through false algorithms that debunk vaccines. Once the

essay was completed, I then needed to create my own website to promote my casual proposal.

Although the audience may have shifted to the general public, my topic still remained the top

priority. This by far was the most extensive project I got to do throughout the whole semester.

Creating a website about a subject I was truly passionate about, made the whole assignment

worth the hard work put in.

As I finish up the last required compositional English class, I realize that learning new

techniques about writing is never ending. I found myself expressing my work in different ways

but remaining scholarly. I have also found more confidence as a person as I stand in front of an

audience. This was the first time through my journey in school that I stood in front of my peers

more than I did in speech. Presenting allowed me to understand that visual effects can go long

way with an audience in order to get a better understanding of a topic. The major essay written

gave insight that writing will continue to be an important asset to my career. I feel more assured

now with my skills in writing that my career will be prosperous in the years to come. Becoming

a nurse requires a lot of writing, and my English courses have guaranteed that success.
