Traditional Memorial Service Process

*Based on the interview with one of St. Peter Chapel Mayon employee

St. Peter Chapels Mayon

Number of clients served per day:
Due to the lack of parking space in the area for their clients, the maximum they
have per day is seven (7).

Season with the most number of clients:

The peak season for their service is after the holidays (January - February) and
summer where most elder people experience heat stroke.

How is St. Peters contacted from the hospital?

Three Ways:
 The first is through sales agent.
 The guards or nurses from the hospital can also contact them.
 The families will contact St. Peters’ main office, which is the Quezon Ave. branch.
The latter will then direct them to the nearest branch from the hospital they are in.

Deceased Body Process

1. Retrieval - Wherein they get the deceased body from the hospital.
2. Deliver - They don’t have an embalming area in their branch (Mayon) so they deliver
the body to another branch (La Loma or Quezon Ave.) then undergo the treatment
process.
3. Form Submission – The family will submit a form in the branch (Mayon) about the
information of the deceased and will set the casket and room that is allotted in their
chosen plan.

Embalming Process
Pre-embalming: Removal of clothes then bathe after.
Embalming phase: There has been a belief of removing the internal organs from the
body which is not true. Blood is the only thing removed from the internal body through the
carotid or femoral artery.
Cause of delays for the process are: edema “manas”, frozen and clotted veins.

Post-embalming: Wash the body then do make over.

One embalmer in a duty can embalm 3-4 bodies per day, where one embalmer is
responsible in embalming one deceased. Each embalming process takes approximately
four (4) hours to finish.

Make-Over
Clothes – The families are advised to provide clothes although there are available
clothes in the main branch (Q. Ave.) which are limited and expensive.

Make-over and Bath – They use Maxx factor for the make-up. While logistics are
responsible for the supplies of the shampoo and soap for the washing of the body.

Formaldehyde – The measurement depends on the weight of the deceased body.

Formalin – As per requirement of DOH, it lasts for 15 days.

Casket
They get it from Pampanga or if international from the US. For customization, it
usually takes 3 days wherein the supply is from Pampanga.
