Personal Statement

As our ex-president Ronald Reagan stated, “There are no great limits to growth because

there’s no limits of human intelligence,imagination,and wonder.” having limitations does not

necessarily mean that these are economical limitations. Limitations could be many many things,

such as speaking a language, and not having the help to overcome those limitations. Not being

economically stable is a limitation, but this doesn’t and shouldn’t lead to failure in achieving

success. Every person has his own background, and a different background and different

limitations with obstacles. It is better not to judge anyone because you never know what

background and obstacles they had to overcome to become who they are.

The place where a person is raised can say many things about that individual, but it

cannot define who they are. I was raised in Colima, Mexico, and while being there my economic

status was one of the challenges I had. In my family, I was required to work with my parents and

go to school at the same time. Being raised in Mexico wasn’t a negative event because it showed

me to appreciate the things that I had. This wasn’t the best experience in my life either because

of the environment I was exposed to.

Learning another language can be one of the hardest obstacles due to not understanding

the work and the people. Not knowing the language gives the feeling of starting over. Having to

be taken out of class to learn the basic steps to speak English affected the topics in my normal

classes. Not understanding the classes introduces a great amount of stress. Communicating with

other people gives a great advantage, but not speaking the language decreases that advantage of

communicating and adding that extra help to understand a topic.

Lastly, when overcoming my challenge, all the obstacles such as being unable to

communicate or understanding the topic became easy to overcome. I am able to speak English

properly and I’m able to communicate at my full potential. This gives me the ability to interact

with other people in a suitable way. I am able to read and write to the point where I can keep up

with the class. By overcoming my limitations, I am able to take Honors and Advanced classes.

In conclusion, many people have different backgrounds, and with every background there

are different limitations. These limitations should not lead to failure because anything can be

achieved when the work is put in. Not speaking a language is a limitation that leads to many

obstacles, but when working hard, you are able to overcome those complications.
