Lesson idea implementation:

Students will be divided into groups. Each group will receive either a planet, an asteroid, or a sun. Groups are
not allowed to know what others were assigned. Students will find images related to that astronomical body.
Students must have different aspects of that body in the video. The video must consist of music that the
students believes best represents the astronomical body. Other requirements are 10-12 pictures and one
video clip no more than 45 seconds. The whole video will not exceed 3 minutes and must be at lest one
minute long. The video will start with “who am I?” and the end will reveal the name of the planet.
Students learning will be address by using a rubric. They will receive the rubric once all the groups have
presented their video. The final product will be used to inform learning by letting students observe to see
how each astronomical body is different from another. The lesson will end with a quick quiz. Students will be
asked a free response question about what made the body so unique.

Importance of technology:
Using a multimedia tool is crucial for the project because it allows students to see and hear what that
astronomical body is like. The project could not be completed without the technology. The learning
experience will be lost. Students will miss out on what makes each body unique. Other types of technology
that can be used are PowerPoint and stop motion.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

To minimize risks to students and myself, remove fears by parents and administrations, and to follow
common internet safety standards, I will have accreditable websites posted on the classroom blog.
Having guided websites helps to keep students safe when using the internet.

Reflective Practice:
The lesson can be extended by having the students make an astronomical body and apply what they know.
Students will have to this up to three different physical features and list three interesting facts. After all are
made then they can be put together for a classroom solar system.
Another way to extend the lesson is to go into move into Roman mythology.
