I. INTRODUCTION:

In preparation for sudden earthquake, an earthquake drill is

necessarily practiced in schools. Earthquake drills must be thoroughly
instilled in the minds of the pupils.
The correct procedures should be followed so that in
emergency cases there is preparedness to each one of us. Once the
drill is announced, all teachers and pupils will conduct the DROP
Procedure (duck, cover and hold). This procedure consists of
everyone dropping to their knees, taking cover under a table or
desk, protecting their head with arms if not under a table or desk,
and face away from windows or mirror. The ultimate goal of this
activity is to highlight the importance of advanced earthquake
planning and practicing. It provides guidance for conducting and
preparing an emergency response plan and drill regimen in a
school. However, contributing factors, such as a school's locality and
its structural strength, play an important role in determining the most
effective emergency response plan for the school. For this reason, it
provides a complete or appropriate guidance to emergency plan
preparation for every school. It may be best to conduct this activity
before or after school, when there are few other school students
present to disrupt or distract from the activities. In some cases, this
may be completed during class time when there are no pupils in the
hallways, but it must be done quietly.
Moreover, the drill should be coordinated with the knowledge
of school officials to prevent falsely alarming other pupils or
educators that may be present. Repeated drills with varying
circumstances over an extended period of time will prepare pupils
and teachers to deal with unexpected emergencies quickly and
safely.

The objectives in conducting an earthquake drill :

 to ensure the safety of the school occupants during and
after a damaging earthquake
 to help school administrators and their disaster action groups
to design specific response plan of the school for
earthquake ;
