Quant Mastery A Session ReKap

Hello Hard-Working GMAT Student,

Congrats on completing your Quant Mastery A Lesson on Demand! This session is specially designed for
students who have reached at least the 70th percentile (note: percentile—that is, scoring better than 70
percent of all GMAT test takers—not percentage of questions answered correctly) in their practice CAT
Quant scores. This Lesson on Demand covered high-difficulty questions in the areas of Algebra,
Arithmetic, and Number Properties in much greater depth and detail than did your other Quant
sessions. If you have not yet reached the 70th percentile in your practice CATs, we highly recommend
you consider repeating this session if and when you do attain such scores. If you are scoring below this
level, you will likely not see problems on your GMAT of the high difficulty level discussed in either of the
Quant Mastery sessions.

Remember, you can watch the Lessons on Demand as many times as you wish in order to feel
prepared—don’t hesitate to access them if you want to review any aspect of what you’ve learned. In
addition, you can email any questions to KaplanGMATFeedback@kaplan.com; our team of expert GMAT
teachers is always ready and willing to help.

Best of luck with your continued studies!

Session Notes

Quant Mastery A Review

The full set of questions covered in this session—including additional quiz material—is available as a PDF
download from your GMAT syllabus in the Kaplan Online Center. Additionally, a PDF download is
available with full answers to and explanations of all the questions in the session booklet. You will find
both these booklets under the “Additional Resources” tab on the left, then in the category “Session
Booklets: Quant Mastery A and B.”

The Quant Mastery A agenda included Algebra, Arithmetic, and Number Properties. You worked on
handling GMAT math, understanding Data Sufficiency concepts and strategies, and finding opportunities
to pick numbers and backsolve. Just because a question is at a high difficulty level doesn't mean you
can't make it more manageable by using the Kaplan strategies!
Make sure you read through the answers and explanations for each question in this session, even for the
ones you answered correctly. There are many insights to be gained from the explanations that you will
be able to apply to the challenging questions you’ll see on Test Day. Pay particular attention to how to
use Kaplan strategies, rather than “just do the math,” to save time and increase your chances of
choosing the right answer.

Here’s a quick suggestion: Eliminating wrong answers right from the start will help you choose among
fewer answers even if you then need to guess—thus increasing your chances of getting a right answer.
Then, if you get stuck, don’t forget that you have the option of guessing—in this case, among fewer
answer choices than the five initial ones. After you guess, you can stop and study the Kaplan
explanation, as well as your guess. This way, you’re practicing guessing strategies as well as answering
questions.

One caveat: If you end up guessing right, you’re giving yourself the illusion of having a skill that you may
not have mastered. And that’s a shaky foundation on which to build GMAT success. This is one reason
why you should always read the explanations even for questions you've answered correctly; at the least,
you may learn another method for getting a right answer.

Additional Resources for Greater Mastery

If you struggled with any of the material in this session, then in addition to reviewing the explanations
thoroughly, we encourage you to rewatch the Lesson on Demand video for additional review.

Your online syllabus also includes a wealth of resources. You can complete additional workshops and
quizzes to review the concepts covered in Quant Mastery A. In your Online Center, go to “Additional
Resources” and click on “Additional Workshops.” From there, you will find the workshops and quizzes
with which to practice. Specifically for Quant Mastery A, you should review the following: Algebra
Challenge Workshop and Quiz, Arithmetic Fundamentals Workshop, and Number Properties Challenge
Workshop and Quiz.

Don’t forget to use Quiz Bank. Quiz Bank is a fantastic resource (also found under the “Additional
Resources” tab), which provides you with targeted practice in two ways. First, you can create a quiz in
“Tutor Mode,” which allows you to complete your quiz in an untimed environment and to review each
question before moving on to the next one. Alternatively, you can create a quiz in “Timed Mode,” which
allows you to complete a set number of questions in a specified time frame and to review explanations
only after completing the entire quiz.

Quant Mastery B

When you are ready, watch the Quant Mastery B Lesson on Demand. This session covers Math
Formulas, Statistics, Probability, and Geometry. Again, the session is intended to be viewed after
achieving at least a 70th percentile score on the Quant section of your GMAT practice CATs. If you are
scoring below that level, you likely won’t encounter on the GMAT questions as difficult as the ones you’ll
see in this session, although working through this material can help build your skills to handle more
difficult GMAT Quant questions. Stay patient with yourself, keep practicing, and you’ll make great
progress between now and Test Day!
