A unit of energy. We need calories to provide energy for our bodies.
We get our calories from carbs, proteins, and fats. Fats have the most calories per gram.

Ask students to grab textbooks and open to page 541. Students will read each section separately and then
discuss with a partner. After, we will discuss each nutrient as a class.

Closure/Summary:
Today we learned about the six major nutrients. There are over 40 nutrients that your body needs. It is
important to receive all nutrients in order to maintain good health and fight disease.
Evaluation/Assessment of student learning:
Comic Strip Creation will evaluate if the students understand the nutrients.
I will also give a quiz at the beginning of the class to determine what students know. I will give the same
quiz at the end of class to see any improvement.

Accommodations

Some students will be given extra time to complete comic strip
