J Basilisk, a collaborative project with both Will and I.

The
competition we are entering our Short Film into is
Raindance. Raindance is the largest independent UK film
festival
2019 is when they will hold their 27th Film Festival in which
W we plan on entering our Short Film.
Raindance has been officially recognised by the Academy of
J Motion Picture Arts and Sciences USA, the BATFA's and the
British Independent Film Awards.
The Categories we plan on entering is:

-Best Cinematography
-Best Performance
-Best Short of the Festival
-Best UK Short
J Our Proposals were our introduction into the project and
was split into 3 sections; Rationale, Concept and Evaluation.
The genre we chose for this production was an action drama.
In my proposal I first talked about editing and what had
inspired me to follow this creative path. I showed images of
previous productions as you can see and the progression, I
have made from my first use of VFX to my most recent.
There is evident progression and it is going to be topped in
this production. I then lead on to the techniques I want to
incorporate. I understand I probably wont use all, but it is
beneficial to write it down so that I can at least acknowledge
what I want to do. Motion Tracking, Masking, Colour
grading, Cutting to the beat, L&J Cuts, Montages, Jump Cut,
Time-lapse, Cutting on Action, Cross Cutting, Fading In &
Out, Keying, Axial Cuts, Long take/ Holding Shot, VFX
overlays, Wiping and obviously the Standard video editing
techniques. Practical Effects is another thing that I planned
on doing in this unit to expand my knowledge and create a
 more realistic production. The first time I tried practical
effects was last unit, and as you can see, for a first time it
didn’t look too bad. Although technically my second time
doing Practical effects, I am more prepared and have done
my research into creating practical wounds.
For the past few production I have assisted in Jordan’s
W production with him returning the favour for my own
production. However we have never actually worked for
each other. We decided that we wanted to work with each
other for this last unit as a way to not only help each other
but so we could take on a more ambitious project for this
final unit. The first week we completed our proposals. Some
of the main things that I definitely wanted to improve on
from past units was my cinematography, fight choreography
and overall story telling. I have not been able to fully commit
to the ambitious concepts in the past unit due to me not
being able to get all the necessary things planned and filmed
by myself. Due to me having to be in these production
meant that I had extra responsibilities and I wouldn’t be able
to properly focus on specialism. Working with Jordan meant
that we could collaborate fully and allow us both to achieve
what we wanted to achieve for this unit

J The Survey was a large part of our research as this gets

feedback for our project, through our targeted audience, In
my survey I thought it best to ask 7 important questions.
*READ OUT 7 QUESTIONS AND WHY CHOSEN*. I promoted
this survey to my audience through Instagram, LinkedIn,
Facebook, WhatsApp and snapchat, to try and reach as many
people in my targeted audience as possible. In my feedback,
I got 2 main themes from what to adapt which were *READ*
 and to help show what types of characters and locations to
use, I made word clouds to accurately and creatively display
my results.

W Similar to Jordan I had published the same questions and

published them onto several different mediums, such as
social media like Facebook. I then also used WhatsApp’s and
email to send my survey to widest audience possible. I then
put all of the main responses onto the Weebly and analysed
all of the feedback that I had received and then picked out
the main things that Jordan I could discuss in our next idea
development meeting or focus group, and begin to add
improvements.

J I researched three main themes in my topic research.

Mourning, British Military and Near Future advancements. In
my research I found out a few things that were beneficial to
our plot, and my understanding of how to portray our
characters. I learnt and wanted to include *READ BOARD*
Not only did I research through the internet, but also
through books, I learnt through these books *READ*]

For my topic research I covered many of the same things

that Jordan has researched. For example I sourced
W information from books and websites for my topic research.
I sourced from books such as “This is alcohol” and “The
Special Air Service”. Sources from online websites ranged
from The World Health Organisation and EliteForcesUK.
From these range of sources, I found out about Secret
Service organisations such as the Increment and UKN, with
the inclusion of the SAS and SBS. I then learnt about alcohol
and substance abuse. However due to one the main goals for
this production was to represent and present alcoholism and
show the seriousness and severity of it, I decided that I
wanted to get a inside look into someone who has been an
alcoholic and substance abuser and has overcome it. I
thought this would be a great way to allow Jordan and I to
represent this accurately on screen. I interviewed a close
family friend Gary Mills where he talked about his
experience [READ BOARD]. From this I hoped that we could
adapt some of the things that Gary did, his habits, his
lifestyle and also his health and implement that into the
Arthur character.
